For stronger hold you can use xanthan gum powder. Xanthan is plant extract so its vegan and CG friendly too. You have to mix a small amount of Xanthan gum with hot water and mix well in a bowl until it reaches a gel consistency and then mix that gel with already prepared flax seed gel and BAM, you got a strong hold easy, cost friendly and zero chemicals gel :)

What I did when I was making flaxseed gel was pour it into small 1-2 oz. squeeze bottles, then freeze them. This way, I could make one large batch, and just thaw one bottle at a time as needed. No waste, no frequent cooking!

If you want a simpler routine to avoid adding the hard hold gel you can add a tablespoon (experiment with the amount really) of SUGAR! Just plain sugar from the pantry! I have heavy, 2b ish wavy hair and a cast is hard for me to get but the sugar will give you HOLD. Depending on how much you use. I find this to work best in the winter time. super cheap single styler routine.

I Love my DIY flaxseed gel! It gives me curl definition and crunchy hold. Here's what I do different: I make an herbal tea with lavender and hibiscus first. Then once I've strained the herbs, I add a squirt of lemmon and about a Tbls of honey. To this I then add marshmallow root and the flaxseed and bring it to boil. The next time I make it I'm going to try using a paint strainer bag 'cause I blew out the organza bag I first tried with. Once I have my gel strained out, I put some of it in a small silicone travel squeeze bottle (got it on Amazon) keep that in the fridge and freeze small amounts in an ice cube tray and take out what I need as needed. FYI: Sugar can be added for even more hold. 😁

Add a teaspoon of sugar for every 100ml water you cook. This wil give a strong cast and a good hold for the curls. You can add Cosgar when the gel is cooling down, to make it last for 3 or 6 months out of the fridge. Add some smelling oil like lavender to give it a nice smell.

Thank you for this video. The flaxseed gel recipe I use is 5 cups of water and 3/4 cups of whole flaxseed. Bring to a boil. On medium boil for 6 minutes, then strain while hot through a mesh strainer over a bowl. Cool the gel and transfer to another container to store in the fridge. I get 2 weeks worth of gel. I love that I'm not putting more chemicals on my hair.

Hey guys! Just wanted to leave some extra tips and tricks I've learned from using flaxseed gel. 1) I make my flaxseed gel 2 cups water to 1/4 cup flaxseed, with this ratio I only need to boil it for 10-20 minutes. 2) I like to add 2 teaspoons of epsom salt, it helps to give it a stronger hold. 3) I can actually keep mine in the fridge for 2 and a half weeks.

I've been making my flax seed gel for a year and my hair is similar to yours. It works really great. But I think you'd save yourself some time if you used less water. I use 1/4 cup of seeds and 2 cups of water, and I only boil it for 10 minutes! You need to let the 2 extra cups evaporate, and it takes for ever!

Hi caro B, how do you keep the flaxseed gel outside the refrigerator longer than 1 week? My flaxseed gel get smelly after 1 weeks in room temperature.
@carob3323
@carob3323 5 жыл бұрын
@@eda3313 Yes, I've kept it for as long as 5 weeks in the fridge, and not because it was spoilt but because I'd finished it at last! But I use a natural preservative in it. I'm French, so I can't tell you what the name of that product is in the US, but it's something called Cosgard which prevents water-based products from going bad too quickly. I also sterilise the container and the utensils with alcohol when I make it to minimize the presence of bacteria in it. Would you like me to try and find what this Cosgard is actually made of so you can try and find it under its US name? I'm fairly sure it must exist.
@carob3323
@carob3323 5 жыл бұрын
@@eda3313 I just checked the composition of Cosgard, it's Benzyl alcohol, Dehydroacetic acid, aqua (Water). It's used even in organic cosmetics, and I put 10 drops of that in my gel at the end. Outside the fridge, in summer, I think it's normal that yours turns bad, it's 95% water after all!

I am pretty sure it is high porosity as well I am struggling to find products that will give my hair hold, yet feel soft. I have tried gels and mousses, yet my hair sticks together like I’ve sprayed it with hair spray and I cannot scrunch out the crunch. I use AG Recoil Creme but the waves (I’m 2abc) fall out after a few hours. Can you suggest what type of products I should look for (not brand names as I live in Canada and cannot get many of the products mentioned on KZbin) or techniques that would give me softness AND hold. I can’t use a leave in as my hair goes stringy. I do use a sulphate free shampoo and the GIOVANNI silk conditioner. Any suggestions would be welcome. @@kellienapier7425 , I'm no expert myself, and still experimenting, but without going into too much detail it sounds like you may have high porosity hair because it dries so quickly. For that reason, you need to apply all your products to your hair in the shower while it's still wet. Leave in conditioner, mousse and gel etc. Curly hair needs a balance between moisture and protein, so check your product ingredients. Also, check out Manes by Mel on youtube. Hope you come right soon!

Have you tried the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner. They claim their silicone is good as its water soluble. Thoughts?

You couldn't have summed up my hair care routine in the intro. A lot of what I do for my hair involves incorporating natural produce as well as using manufactured hair products.

This looks amazing. Will be preparing the Flaxseed gel. I don't see a link to the essential oils that can be added. Will appreciate if you can share where can I go. Thanks.

Hey my hair are wavy and a bit curlish not exactly like you. I am in the transition phase of CG method. I just had a question that is Denman brush helpful for enhancing waves bcoz u used the brush. My biggest problem is that my waves don't clump and appear frizzy on the top and curly at the ends. So do u recommend buying Denman brush for wavies curlish hair(2A-2B maybe)

Wow, I have been watching your videos for a couple days now and the flaxseed really brings out the shine. I have to do this for my hair. What sucks is I had bleached a section of hair in the front of my head and have been dying it purple so that whole section which is about 2 inches wide is so dead, I wonder if the flaxseed would help fix the dryness. Thank you for all of your videos, you are one of my favorites.

Your curls look amazing! I've only heard of using flaxseed gel as a way to help hair growth. This is very interesting. I might have to check into making some now that I know of this use as well.

Why does you gel take that long to cook😅 mine takes only about 7 minutes, am I doing something wrong?

Me too, I just wait until it gets a white film over the top. I'd imagine cooking it for longer than that depletes out all the nutrients.

This is great. I tried flaxseed gel without adding hard hold gel on top and it didn't hold the waves. I'm going to try this technique today. Really good idea 😀👍
