I make soft plastics and what I normally do is put garlic in a small grinder I have, press all the juice out into a container and add some salt. I add that to my worm oil. After all of that I put a couple table spoons into a bag and roll all my baits in it. Sometimes I might even add more salt. Then my baits are ready to be packaged and shipped

I just buy stinky sardine oil from the fishing store, 1 liter bottles. I pay 9,75 euros (about 11 USD) for it, which isn't a too bad price here in my country. Making my own fish oil would be too much of hassle for me personally. Anyway, I then add/mix a good bunch of crushed fresh garlic to it - way WAY back and the backyard otherwise my wife would kill me - and let it marinade in a cool spot (garage) for a month. Closed lid, OF COURSE. After this I just let my plastic lures sit in it for a few hours overnight, before a fishing session. Done. Yeah, they stink, oh boy do they stink, but it seems the fish like it. And it goes a long way. I only use this when fishing for sea fish, not in fresh water though. I wonder if... hmmm... would it work for fresh water too? Cheers.

so once again thanks for the advice, but my plastics are drying out for some reason. Is it because of the major factor that I am using garlic *salt*? I am not quite sure, but I am using canola oil and obviously the garlic salt. I think I might throw it away because i only put 3 different types of plastics in the mixture (1 of each) just to see if the they all would dry out (keep in mind, I left these in for about 3 days). Anyways if you have any advice on that it would be great, but if all else fails I will just buy a spray bottle! Thanks!

Mine didn't dry out, but after about a month in it, they started to swell, so I just put it in a spray bottle and spray it on them now. :-)
@TheOpelkoenjas5 жыл бұрын
It seems the salt absorbs the water in your lures, which makes them dry out and become brittle. Try using garlic oil instead (I believe the dollar store sells it for cheap). Or make your own by crushing a bunch of garlic cloves (fresh ones of course) with the flat side of a knife, or chop them up, and mix it up together with some generic vegetable oil in a container. Give it a good shake and let it sit for at least a month in a dark, cool spot (garage maybe?). You can even add some crashed up sweet corn if you want. No bass can resist the smell of sweet corn. :) Could it be because your plastic lures are not made for fishing in salt water? Or maybe they are a cheap generic "brand"? Or both? Because I too had the same problem with those cheap Chinese plastic lures: turned out they don't do so well when soaking in salt water. This while the more expensive plastic lures I bought in our local fishing store and designed for fishing in salt water had no problem with sitting in salted water (they did started to swell up after 2-3 weeks soaking). Cheers!

I used to mix garlic juice and mineral oil together and mineral oil would allow the garlic scent to stick on the bait even an hour after I've been fishing it but now it's hard to find a garlic juice anywhere it seems to me like it is so my question is garlic salt or garlic powder works just as good? Does it got to be garlic salt and garlic powder work? And the olive oil what is the purpose of the olive oil does it let the scent stay longer as well on the bait?

Thanks Levon! The oil just helps it to stick to the plastic. I use garlic salt, because salt is often added to lures at manufacturer to add to taste.

i have been fishin a golf course pond where the bass are very finicky. I threw a spinner they didnt want it, I tried a watermelon red black flake senko. I threw a rootbeer colored zoom tube. Nothing there either. It frustrated me because my presentation was correct No dice there either. Its not what I was throwing because I swear by senkos and zooms and have caught more fish on that bait than any other ive ever tried. So i went back to the drawing board. I threw a watermelon and cream senko, and they started smacking it . This afternoon I did an experiment. I took table salt, and put it in my package of zoom tubes there werent hitting and mixed it around. This afternoon that were attacking it harder than a senko. My first fish today was a 2 pounder, and he hit my salt soaked zoom so hard he almost ripped the rod out of my hand. My next fish came out of the water and dove on it. I dont know if it was my change in presentation adding a bullet weight and letting it drop to the bottom and pulling up on it slowly and letting the skirt flutter, the salt or a combo of both but there may be some truth too this theory. I am fishing a very heavy mat where it it is difficult to go weightless, because the bait can not penetrate the mat and sink, but try soaking your zooms in table salt to get rid of that plastic smell, and toss it out there. Once I added table salt to that bait the bass were super agressive.
