This is a homemade spider bracket which replaces the aluminum one that corrodes over time. Its most important to weld everything as plumb as possible to avoid vibration. The good news is that there is some forgiveness as a washer never really spins balanced to the the laundry..so any small errors should be compensated by the very design of the basin stabilizers.

I see a lot of people have this issue. Greedy companies put cheap spiders in so they could make money on repairs and on selling new washers. I wish they would stop that and at least make steel spiders.

Just had this happen on my Frigidare front load. Of course they won't just sell you the spider support since they didn't design it right to begin with. Oh well, I work at a metal shop and I was wondering if it was even possible to make one myself and now I see that it is, thanks for that!

Yep, it can be done. I made mine a year ago. Took it apart last week to check on it an she's good as new. While I had it apart I put in a new bearing..why not right?

Like many others, I have the exact same problem. Given that getting this true and centered is critical, could a replacement spider be made with adjustable arms that bolt to a housing that supports the shaft? with some play in the center housing, it could be adjusted to plumb and bolted tight. It may even be possible to create a few different center housings (for different sized shafts), and a few different arm lengths, and be able to accommodate a several different makes and models?

Hey one question have you had any issues with Early bearing failure due to the added weight using steel? Also how or what did you use to get your shaft perfectly plumb. Seems to me if the shaft is even a couple degrees off it would cause wobble at high speeds.

Designed to break today i dismantled my Bosch machine with intent to change bearings I was shocked to see that the support had failed totally the drum had cut into the plastic drum container .. . initially I put the corrosion down to the WELL water and detergents ... cost of living off grid but then I found some clips of similar problems from other people who were using mains supply ... fact is does not matter how much you pay for your machine they are designed to fail .... Bought this machine for just sort of 500 euros 13 years ago .. replacing a Hoover that ran and ran and ran for over 30 years drum never failed replaced the bearings once and the motor once in all that time ... only replaced it because could not get parts in France ... it has been in the barn ever since .....come to think .. i wonder if i could transplant the drum into the Bosch ....

What I found when my broke was that the OxiClean supplemental powder that I was putting into my Kenmore front load washer was all over the entire back. It was completely covered in OxiClean pellets, that did not dissolve! So, with it covering everything, because it was not dissolving, it caused mine to corrode! Do not put OxiClean powders in your washer!

I have a Samsung front load washer. Spider arm crumbled to gravel. Now washer leaks and makes crazy noises. Spider arm another example of companies saving money. Piece of junk will never buy a front load washer. Headed to the junkyard. Thanks Samsung for a piece of crap that never did clean my wash

Exactly .. Most companies such as LG, Samsung, Bosch adopt bolted tubs that can be opened and supply spare parts such as the drum spider. But some companies such as Hotpoin, Indesit, Whirlpool oblige the purchase of the complete tub which has a very high cost equivalent to a new washing machine.

You have to cut it out...there are no options. It is pressed into liquid cast aluminum during manufacturing. Just use a hack saw and cut it out little by little.

You might want to a couple steel plates on each side of your machine, just in case the weld lets go. Imagine a very large circular saw blade, or a small airplane propeller slicing its way through your home.

Yungfin, I hope you're kidding.... You don't honestly believe that this could in any way cut through the sides of the washing machine and continue on through walls and/or floors of your house..??? You watch too much TV.

@@budzillasohoski9858 How long was the fix in place before the washer quit? How many loads per week (or month or year)? Did you do a post mortem to evaluate the condition of the spider?
@budzillasohoski9858
@budzillasohoski9858 Жыл бұрын
@@ItsVideos oh…yeah it lasted for years! I’d say close to 7 or 8 years. Hundreds and hundreds of loads. I did not do a postmortem lol. I’m 1000% sure the fix would’ve lasted forever. The paint that I used was a 2 part epoxy paint. It’s what the military uses to paint the inside of wings where fuel is stored. It’s nasty stuff but works like crazy.

Aluminum spider + Stainless Steel drum = Galvanic reaction. His fix using Steel will almost eliminate that issue but it would simply corrode because it’s in water a lot.

@@JonnyBrek Yes agree on that. I replaced the spider on my machine with the standard aluminum one. Probably will fall apart after 5 years like the first one did :(
@JonnyBrek
@JonnyBrek 3 жыл бұрын
@@martynh5410If you were lucky enough to find the new part you could have painted it with rust inhibitor. If you follow some tips it will last you more than 5 years. The main cause of the damage are liquid detergents at low temperatures. So if you want to avoid this problem I recommend at least every 15 days to use good branded detergent powder and wash at 90 degrees. A full wash is done around 2:30 or 3:00 and when not in use the washing machine leaves the door open so you will help dry everything out of the water.
