You would think Samsung would dip that spyder in an waterproof epoxy coat. How hard can it be?

Yes, I heard some people only get 4-5 years depending on soaps and uses. By making it stronger and more protected it should last much longer, hopefully you get yours going strong, thanks

Planned end of life by the manufacturer . The longer it last the less money they make. Love this video, I am older and dont want to spend my time doing this. 20 years ago , heck yea!!!! Manufacturers should make it better, and charge for it. Make your company BETTER then everyone else. There will always be the market for the cheaper product. Manufacures are lookin to cut costs and being competitive. It sucks for the consumer that pays $1500 for a washer. Love the video!

I'm pretty sure they use the spider as the sacrificial anode, which is stupid, IMO. There should be an easily removable metal attached instead of such a critical part.

Nice, good to hear about similar successes. I’m perfecting my casting ability and hoping to post a video of me casting one out of a melted old aluminum car rim one day. If so it will be completely solid aluminum.

@@joelshopefullyhelpfulvideo3010 My respect for you... Thank you for the work done on this video, it is really useful and meaningful. However, I have some "technical and chemical" problems. Thus: 1. It is clear that the aluminum used for the tripod of the washing machine tub is of poor quality and this very important sub-assembly (the tripod) is made with great economy of material and quality; 2. Not only Samsung washing machines have this problem, it is a general problem, because these household appliances are made to last depending on how much money you are willing to pay... these appliances, from the minimum price of 500 dollars (or euros) up to 1000 dollars, they are cars of the "home user" class, which are also the most on Earth and which are considered "recipients of expensive goods, with deficiencies according to the quality of the materials used and with a short service life - maximum 4 or 5 years" 3. As long as the producers (ABSOLUTELY ALL, from Samsung to the cheapest brands on the market) can afford to divide the final consumers into "slaves" or "with claims from a certain company", a different solution than what you have presented by you in this video does not exist...but your solution is also quite expensive, as materials used, time, experience (and knowledge of a subject taught in secondary school, minimally, chemistry or chemical and physical properties of materials used in industry ) so as to protect the aluminum from the chemical solutions used to wash clothes in everyone's home. 4. The people who have enough experience in providing the service for the majority of those considered "slaves" by the manufacturing companies or the people who work in the laboratories that produce detergents or other products intended for washing everyday clothes, can do a charitable deed and to post something from their experience regarding the physico-chemical interactions of washing machine components and the substances used to wash clothes (for example: the action of vinegar on the materials of the washing machine tub, hoses, gaskets, aluminum or tub from stainless steel where clothes are put for washing...or the action of lemon salt when some people try to clean or freshen the smells inside the stainless steel tub of the car, etc.) I don't think that those few, who know such physical-chemical interactions, are willing to "leak" such information in the public environment, for most of the users of washing machines of maximum 500 dollars... the power of money and the disinterest in studying this problem is one of the assets of the producers of "rables" of up to 500 dollars.
@zarzarel19107 ай бұрын
5. And you, until you use the "2-component epoxy resin" method for filling the purchased tripod, I am sure that you have studied about this option and asked people who know this phenomenon... but, in my opinion, you have not given everything the details about the compatibility between aluminum and epoxy resins...that's up to you to decide if you will make these things known or not, I for one will respect the decision, no matter what it is...also, the cleaning process of the tripod used (which you have fill it with epoxy resin), the process of clearing and degreasing before using epoxy resin requires some protective measures and some physico-chemical knowledge or at least some guidance from people who are familiar with such procedures... Anyway, your idea in this video is one that deserves to be researched in more detail, from several points of view, even if it requires the consultation of people familiar with the reactions between aluminum, stainless steel, epoxy resin and also some theory about the forces to which the aluminum tripod element of the washing machine is subjected, to the physical torsion/shearing forces, temperature and chemical elements existing between the tripod and the stainless steel tub of the washing machine... only after that can some conclusions be drawn and they will choose the best materials...casting aluminum is an idea, but determining the profile, weight and density of the material used for casting, tempering and scaling of the cast element are other problems that need "research"..and, at the end" follows the balancing of the washing machine, from the fixing feet on the tiles to the springs, counterweights and shock absorbers of the entire sub-assembly of the tub... I wish you a nice day and good health in the future

Thank you for the helpful suggestion. Since the spider bracket will alway make contact with liquid, what do you think of an idea of using the zinc Chromatic only on it without the bonding or paint? What is your thoughts? Thank you;

Hi, It's been 2 years since you posted this video. Is the epoxied spider still holding the test of time? Does it create an unbalanced condition? I just took apart a Samsung 1 or 2 years old washer that supposedly failed due to a broken bolt. I thought it was one of those bolts holding the spider but it turned out to be a bolt holding a counter-balancing weight. Now that the spider is out and looking so brand new, I'm also thinking of coating it using some laminating polyester resin to waterproof it and hopefully make it last longer. I've been using this resin to seal my concrete pond and it's been leak proof. But I not sure if it will stop the galvanic corrosion that naturally occurs at the stainless steel to aluminum transition. I think that it should slow it down if no aluminum is exposed to the hot suds. That's why I'm curious how yours withstood the test of time... Did you cover all the exposed aluminum as well?
@joelshopefullyhelpfulvideo3010 Жыл бұрын
Still running daily no problems, and I did another one from another brand almost 10 years ago that still working also. If you clean it and fill the voids it would prevent soap from latching in the voids and probably make it last much longer. Hopefully you get it fixed permanently…cheers

@@joelshopefullyhelpfulvideo3010 Thanks. Fortunately their new design doesn't have those deep grooves collecting the scum. At least it's comforting to know that we have this option to counter such built in planned obsolescence, for that's what it really is... I'm surprised that no class action has been filled against Whirlpool and such as of yet.
@johndoe-vc1we Жыл бұрын
A simple way to prevent these failures would be to fill the machine halfway and run a wash like that to dissolve all the soap stuck in there. But what will that do to the bearings? assuming the machine does not detect the high water level and drain.
@kiplandingham322 Жыл бұрын
Is there anything special about that epoxy you used? I seem to only be able to find it sold retail as small tubes as opposed to the large cans you show. I'm wondering if I can use any type/brand of 2-part epoxy that comes in similarly-sized cans. Thanks for posting this!
@joelshopefullyhelpfulvideo3010 Жыл бұрын
Not particularly anything special about the epoxy, It was just something I was lucky to get for free. Something epoxy based sold in cans that is thick enough should work.

You would think the manufacturers would use a epoxy anti corrosion coating on the spider but i guess they know this so you go and buy another machine.

It seems like what you're doing is a total waste of time. That part only cost $80 and is widely available. I thought that powder coating would be a good idea. I also looked into Marine sealants used in ship engine compartments and it seems like they might do the trick.

When I made this video I think it was more pricey for that part. But regardless it’s been running solidly ever since in a furnished rental appartement. The products used were given to me free. Sometimes it doesn’t always make sense but I did it to keep myself occupied in my shop just like many other things. It’s kinda like a hobby for me.

Should have just bought a new spider on eBay for about $80. You’d be saving not just time but money. You probably ended up spending about $200

Hi, Your right about the spider, I bought the used machine to have the inside water bin. The old one was damaged when the spider exploded, that part was very expensive and not worth fixing the machine if bought new. I work on my projects when I’m bored at night as a hobby, I don’t establish much value to that time vs watching television.
