I think this is one of your best videos till this date. The family that invited you really made sure that you were in for a real treat. Thanks to them as well. Indians have first preference for home cooked food. We might go to restaurants, cafés, street food as our weakness, but nothing beats home cooked food. Regarding your observation about the rice, yes we don’t prefer eating Basmati rice regularly. It’s mainly used for Pulav and Biriyani where you need more grainy texture. Every state and regions of India have their own variety of rice which they use for different textures and tastes. I am glad that you got to experience this.

Indrani rice is a gem, it's really starchy and sticky shorter grain than Basmati but man it's so so fragrant. But you'll not use it for making biryani for the same reason. Instead have it with simpler dishes like a good dal, a nice chicken curry or mutton curry for its real fragrance to shine.

Maharashtrian food is some of the most complicated, certainly not as simple as adding onion tomatoes and garam masala to everything :-). Like the chicken curry they had has a masala prep of roasted coconut, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, garlic , onions tomatoes , coriander, and whole spices. Anything more or less, even a 19 20 difference can ruin your dish . It's art in that sense. You are certainly a non marathi, who's never had real maharashtrian food in life.

You find all kind of people in every part of the world, just as you would find people in India who are not as welcoming as well.

While I love jamun and rasmalai, it would have been great though if they chose some traditional maharashtrian dessert like puran poli, ukdiche modak, karanji, Pune amba barfi etc (it's not that it's only specific to Maharashtra but extremely popular, would have been nice for you to have an experience of that.
@FollowMeImaFoodieIndia3 жыл бұрын
Maybe we will still get a chance to try them in another part of India!!
@mandarjoshi92523 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! The food that was served was not Maharashtrian. Puran poli, Modaks, shrikhand should be there. And with traditional Alu bhaji, poli/poori shud have been there. Also, Rangoli around the dish would have made the meal much better.

Also, since when does chole bhature come under Maharashtrian cuisine??? They could have made jwari chi bhakri,pithla, vangyacha rassa, thecha. So many real Marathi food items and they served chole bhature..
@mandarjoshi92523 жыл бұрын
@@dancerchick Yes. They could have asked someone to cook Maharashtrian food if they didn't knew anything about Marathi food.

I am in a way disappointed because that wasn't really a full traditional Maharashtrain meal, except for kurdai, shrikhand, chicken curry and aluvadi. I wish I get a chance to host any of these food vlogger. If I was given an opportunity following would be my menu 1. Masale bhat 2. Aloo vangyachi bhaji/ Patvadichi bhaji 3. Phodnicha Varn aani bhat 4. Purnachi Poli (as sweet) 5. Mungachya daliche wade/ bhaje 6. Shengdane aani mirchi cha thecha 7. Kurdai 8. chapati Or for Non Veg 1. Saoji/Kolhapuri Mutton 2. Sukka chicken 3. Lambya rottya/dopodya 4. Jeera rice Aunty did a great job as host. Thanks Ashutosh for welcoming them in your house.

We asked them to keep it to 5 or 6 dishes. We shot a street food video 4 hours later

@@FollowMeImaFoodieIndia it's not about the number of dishes but the authenticity of the dish. Chhole bhature is not Maharashtrian at all. If at all she could have made potato chutney with puri that is what we make at home and trust me it tastes way better than chhole bhature. Chicken dishes were more of experimental than authentic except for the curry. Anyways, it's good that you enjoyed the food. That's what matters. I really wish I had connected before so that I could invite you to my humble abode in Mumbai

An Indian friend made us lady fingers and ground nuts . Thin fried okra with peanuts. So good. And fresh cut potato chips with garam masala. I now eat my potato chips that way. I miss India and my Indian friends. I hope to return when I can.

I have heard of indrayani rice too but you cant get that here. I live on the west coast ie Vancouver BC. Thats not something any indian restaurant makes. Its almost like Bajra Roti I am yet to find a restaurant in BC or for that matter Canada that can make one. As a Canadian i loved it when i visited Jaipur. Unfortunately there are some things that you would need to be in India specifically to get it.
