Today, I'm going to be making HOMEMADE MOCHI from MOCHI RICE (= Japanese sticky rice, sweet rice) and MOCHIKO.
In Japan, there are two types of MOCHI, one is MOCHI for meals, and the other is for dessert.
I'm going to try four different ways to make MOCHI, to see which is more manageable and tastier.
We usually buy MOCHI at a grocery store, but some of you can't access MOCHI easily, so I want to share how to make MOCHI.

The mochiko + microwave is convincing enough in a pinch, and it’s so easy! Definitely worth making if you want to have something very similar to mochi in a few minutes. I kneaded it for a little while too, but I’m not sure if it affected the texture significantly, because I didn’t compare to unkneaded.

You make it look so easy! Thank you for showing us the packaging of some of your groceries as well. Shopping at the Asian market can be tricky sometimes when you only speak English and not all of the labels have translations 😅 so seeing your labels helps a lot, now I have an idea what characters to look for! Thank you! ❤️

Another great way that works especially well with soft mochi is daikon oroshi. Immediately after cooking, separate mochi into bite-size portions. Add a generous amount of grated daikon and soy sauce. Eat while warm. Very simple and surprisingly delicious. It's my favorite way to eat mochi.

Always used the microwave shortcut before, but I DO have a stand mixer and you make it look much more approachable... I think it is time to try & make the real deal... also, I've been eying the mochi icecream at my grocery store, but price wise, I think I could do better making it myself, I hope you are planning to do a video on that too.

Thank you for this video! We always make ozoni for New Years. I buy it at a Japanese grocery store but this year, the family has been sick so we were not able to drive into the "big city" to get any. I was looking for a mochi recipe that didn't have sugar in it and found your video. I don't have a stand mixer but I do have mochi rice, so I'm going to try making the one with the blender and steaming.

So when should you use Shiratamako rather than Mochiko? I tried making mitarashi dango years ago and found a few recipes recommending Shiratamako for that, but then I had to boil the dango rather than microwave. Thanks for the great video!!

@Kitchen Princess Bamboo thank you so much for these comparable approaches. It is very edjucative and usefull for us not having so much experience. I do have one more question though: What is the power in Wats of your stand mixer? Not sure if it is relevant but given the stickiness it might be (sorry if it is mentioned somewhere but I missed it). Thanks!

I'm hitting every video I can find and I'm asking this question until I can get an answer because I can't find nothing on Google and I just still can't figure out how Facebook works. My mochi keeps coming out with hard balls it feel like rice. I can't tell you what I'm doing wrong, I follow the same recipe every single time and 1 out of 3 times it comes out rate and then now ,five times in a row it's horrible I ve gone through three boxes of my flour. I tried different ways this time so many different recipes and only one time did it come out amazing. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong and I can't find answers because Google sucks Facebook I can't figure it out and you to buy a brand-new to and so far no one's replied to a comment on KZbin. Main recipe I followed was Japanese 101 with the steaming in the making sugar syrup. came out so good the first time. I tried recreating it twice no-go I use three different recipes my last times no-go. Those balls just keep coming up in her all different sizes I have one of them the size of a quarter and I'm mixing and I'm trying to break it apart and I don't know what the freak is going on
