Just picked up clearance "Christmas" paper that could be used year round. I got two tubes (the same) with the purpose of modpodging cardboard boxes with it to store crafts, clothes, basically be seen on a shelf and disguise a cardboard box. Hoping the homemade stuff will save me money!!

I've used the glue mixture forever, especially traditional decoupage no need to use Modgepodge, I've been decoupaging before modpode was created. I also reverse decoupage with the glue mixture. when done correctly i have no issues expect when the paper is black. My projects still come out professional without the modge pode. I do however sometimes use modgepodge for the outer layers or to waterproof

Not sure what you mean by ‘the water transfer method’ but I have successfully used thinned down pva glue (not the school glue type but the type you buy for woodworking) and applied a bunch of thin layers (maybe 5) to a printed picture letting it dry between layers. Glued it to another surface. Let it dry fully again. Then wet and rubbed off the paper until it was smooth and clear and it worked perfectly.

I suggest retrying making the modpodge with distilled water, you'll find the quality is just as good if not BETTER the only thing you didnt do correctly was add 1/2 tsp of the polyacrylic , all homemade modpodge MUST have the 1/2 tsp to be high quality.

I loved the video. Going to follow the recipe definitely . But I am sorry if i sound kind of confused. I couldn't make sense of the last couple of sentences. 1. It doesn't do the "reverse graphics tranfer". 2. But I use my mod podge to make my signs and do the "reverse technique ". So my question is what is the difference between reverse transfer method and reverse technique for signs etc? Then There's no comparison between a store bought and a home made for quality BUT when I am selling a project or want a really high quality finish on it I use my mod podge. So my question is then which one is better? Homemade or store bought?

I've read that modge podge can work as a sealer as well though, like to coat paintings, or decals and stuff. I'm assuming this homemade recipe wouldn't work for that since it has the powder correct? I assume it would reduce clarity of the image. It seems like the homemade modge podge would be best for things like thickening paints, glue, and to prime canvases, correct? I am trying to find a good paint sealer I can use on poster board, but liquitex & gamisol seem too wet or thick and would warp the board. And acrylic sprays stink to high heavens and I can't use them inside.

Hey! I was planning on making a custom phone case with either paint or paper. Idk if once I'm done to use a layer of mod podge over it but they don't sell mod podge near me. I'm worried it will ruin it if it rains or just gets wet, so should I use this homemade one, or is there something I can buy that prevents water from damaging it? Also great video! :)

That is something I have not made so I’m unsure what would be a good top coat. Maybe engine enamel will work wellamzn.to/3sVB68K

I haven’t tried this but how about a varnish or nail varnish or you can buy at local DIY waterproofing sprays.

I love all your videos! I was wondering, if I use more poly acrylic sealer would it be permanent? That's why I never use school glue lol also you said in one of your other videos that you live in Ontario...I'm a Canadian too! I live in woodstock, what city do you live in?

@@OurUpcycledLife Hi, I visited Canada for a month stayed in Mississaugua and drove to Gananonkwi and on to the 1000 islands. It was fabulous it was thirty years ago but I fell in love with it all. Love from the U.K. and thanks for the very informative video.

@@OurUpcycledLife Yes, I took in Niagra and I loved your shopping centres. I sailed all evening on Lake Ontario on a huge ship and danced and drunk the night away under the stars ✨ on the three decks. It was magical. I may visit again one day and you are so blessed to live in such a fabulous country. God bless. 👍♥️🇬🇧

You mention that the brand mod podge does have a better finish. Have you figured out why this would be? Is there something chemically different in the brand name versus making it from school glue?

I made some homemade Mod Podge and it seemed so sticky and gooey trying to get it off that the graphic stayed sticky and when trying to rub the gooey residue off, it took my graphic off. What did I do wrong? I let it sit 2-3 days as well.😩
