I JUST made your Papo seco recipe and they came out AMAZING! I have been trying to make these for 4 years since I moved away from New Bedford Ma to Niagara Falls. They came out perfect, crispy and soft. I plan to try all your recipes! Thank you SO MUCH from the fondo do meu coraçao ❤

Hello, Nancy G! Just to let you know I made this recipe yesterday and I am super impressed with it! I froze the papo secos and today I thawed them and re-heated in the oven. THEY ARE PERFECT! This is ny favorite bread recipe and I have tried so many of them. Thanks again, have a lovely sunday

I just made these after not finding a place that sells these near me and OMG…. The easiest and delicious bread ….. this was my first attempt at making bread ever!!! I added a tray of water to the oven while baking and it helped with a crunchy outside but kept it fluffy inside ❤ muito obrigado 🫶🏽

Nice work, I grew up on these and still have fond memories of helping grandma in the kitchen and then sitting down with grandma n pa and a jar of quince jam......well this and the shrimp too.

I live in South Eastern Massachusetts and I get these rolls from my local grocery store all the time they're so delicious and remind me so much of my childhood. They're the best! (Especially when toasted 🤤)

I just got back from 2 weeks in Portugal and couldn't wait to learn how to make these. We got a sandwich almost every day for lunch and the bread was so good! I got some European flour and have a batch rising right now. Pastel de nata is next! 🥰

I made the buns today. They came out amazing. I wish I could share a pic. I did everything the same, the yeast etc. the only difference was I put everything in my bread machine on the dough setting and finished them in the oven once they rose. I have already shared your recipe with my family. Thank you.

They don't last in my house... as it's a small batch. They are good for next day as well. Keep them in a plastic bag. Thank you for the question😊

Hi Nancy, made the papos secos yesterday and they were soooooooooooooooooo good. That will be my one and only recipe. I wanted to eat more than one papo seco with butter but had to stop at one otherwise I would not be able to eat dinner lol. Again, thank you so much for sharing the recipe

I loved Portuguese breads. Been grew up with it all my life. I can't live without it. By the way, I dont have the machine that you have. How long do I have to kneel it until it is done ? And is this authentic Portuguese bread or a Portuguese style version ? I see different authentic Portuguese bread recipe from yours version. Thank you.

You can knead it until the dough comes together and forms a consistency, wherein the dough is slightly sticky. I haven't made this recipe by kneading it by it hand, however, you can. It may take 5- 10 minutes by hand. This is a portuguese bread recipe. Thank you😊

Hi Shirley, if you want to freeze the paposecos, you can. Place them in a bag once they are cooled and place in the freezer. To thaw, place them on your counter or table in the bag, and let them thaw. Thank you🥰

They look great! I want to try this out - couple questions: do you bake near the bottom of your oven and do you add a pan of water to steam?

My yeast doubled in size in the beginning but my dough wouldn’t double in size at all afterwards. I kept it in a warm place inside my oven and I followed all the steps 😢should the dough been mixed longer than 5 minutes? I did it for 5 minutes like you said but my dough was extremelyyyy sticky and still took it out the bowl like that..not sure if this is where I went wrong

It's crispy when it comes out of the oven. They are soft paposecos on the outside as they cool. Thank you

Is it possible to do this without a stand mixer? I’ve successfully made other Portuguese staples like Caldo Verde and Pasteis de Nata, but Pap seco is the next one I’m wanting to try

Hi Eric... Yes you can definitely make the paposeco dough without a stand mixer. It will take longer to knead and bring the dough together if you are kneading with your hands. Happy baking. Enjoy😊
