it's late now but i like to thanks for the cheap and fast way of using the ne555 for this,i was doing a project about using rf ground substitution for earth for special places(may be lightning harvest),we finished the atenna and the grounding set up but cannot but a plasma globe because the dropshippers on amazon cannot define the power for us,so we made this,he said this is a nice touch and he gave me a bonus score and the research paper is pending for IEEE approval

I know this is 3 years old by now, but you should ground the HV return pin of the flyback, that way the plasma globe will work better and you won't have to drive the flyback so much. I could see at higher power settings the flyback started arcing over to the core, that leads to destruction if it manages to burn through, so be careful if this is the only flyback of the kind you got. As you said, better submerge it under oil.

I actually just started doing that a few months ago. Never realized how much difference grounding the one end could make.

High voltage generators seem to be mostly made with flyback transformers , are there any other sources?

Hello mate What MOSFET are you using please Cheers for the great video

I have fixed my plasma globe by using the 555 timer flyback driver and it was like nothing ever happened to it originally lol

Do I need to make my own flyback if i have one?
@ClevelandStorms8 жыл бұрын
The flyback needs to output AC. If you got it from a television made later than 1980 it is probably DC and will not work

Hi, in your video, you look like using a flyback, but in instructable (www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-Plasma-Globe-out-of-a-Light-Bulb/?ALLSTEPS) you say to make our own transformer. Does it work with traditional flyback ? Another question, is your circuit a plasma speaker circuit ? Thanks

It will only work with an AC flyback, not a DC flyback. Any flyback that looks like one from a television made in 1980 or later (estimation) is a DC flyback. Sometimes homemade transformers don't work well with this circuit. Little ones like the one I use and really old ones that just look like a donut on a square core are AC. My circuit is Plasmana's plasma speaker circuit

ClevelandStorms Ok, thank you for answering. I've got an other question, still about the transformer : in your tutorial, you said to put electrical tape on each layer of wire. What is it for ? To prevent arcs into the coil ?
@ClevelandStorms10 жыл бұрын
MrFireDIY Flyback transformers have to be made in a special way. Each layer has a greater voltage then the previous layer. If they are not insulated, the layers will arc to one another. So Teflon tape and electrical tape can be used to insulate each layer from the previous one when you are winding them.

ClevelandStorms Please can you send me the circuit diagram and part list to(i.e iamanurag786@hotmail.com). please help me, in making i will be highly obliged. thanking you, and ya your driver is a good one, means to say good source of voltage...:) please send me, as soon as you can!!
