Hi from Newfoundland, Canada. We only get a couple months each year to ride on the lakes. I've had 6 barrells kicking around for sometime now and i think I will make a similar one for the kids this summer. I wish it was warmer here but we are still dealing with snow. We visit Florida every couple of years and this looks like a great area to visit outside of all the commercial places. Thanks for posting.

Very cool build and a great job. You could always pitch a tent if you don't want to build a permanent structure on the deck. That way if you get caught up in a wind storm you could take it down and not have to deal with the winds over turning moments that would/could effect the boats stability(think sail) and handling. Just a thought.

You could install on this one or the next one platforms that run out beside the motors, that rods could attach to for trolling. As for a structure, just use a tent. That way you can store it without it having to take up a lot of space. You can use the rope cleats to tie it to instead of tent stakes.

@@chud327 I did and I have to say I am getting excited like a little kid at christmas. I cant wait to get that motor back and drop it in the water. I am hoping it will be back before saturday so I can take it out then. We had a little issue getting The Monkeebutt (The MB) off the trailer when we went out. The water diverters on the front caught the front of the bunkers on the trailer. It is an easy fix but I have to take Rhe MB off the trailer to fix. If you build a newer bigger better pontoon we will have to chat about that...I have some ideas for that....Think Tri-toon! I already have plans drawn up for one and it uses what I think is the best of The MB with what you did. If I had a wider area to store mine I would build one 8 ft wide by at least 14-15 foot....I would keep it under 16. I would also make the entire top usable like yours.

I learned recently that foam pontoons have a higher buoyancy than an air filled pontoon and you can fiberglass them to protect the foam from deteriorating or being torn apart if they hit stuff. Just don't get the resin that eats foam and use the compressed insulation foam and not styrofoam.
@chud3275 жыл бұрын
That would be a cool build, where do you get the foam? Thanks for watching.
@ArkLord0015 жыл бұрын
@@chud327 You can get it at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Any hardware type store that sells the insulation foam panels. The pink or blue foam is extruded polystyrene and is more dense and doesn't fall apart as easily. You can buy it in 2" thick in 2x8 foot sizes. By stacking 12 of them, you get an 8 foot long, 2 foot square block of solid foam. If you do the math on buoyancy, a 2 foot diameter (Round) pontoon that is hollow, will support approximately 1570 lbs of weight. The foam can be shaped to whatever you want it to be so you can put a cone shape for the nose to better slide through the water, add the angled side 'fins' (I forget the proper name for them) and then use epoxy fiberglass to cover it and protect it from damage and deterioration from sunlight, water, brushing up against stuff underwater, etc. I'm thinking about do this for next year in a portable break down to stick in the back of my Caravan and assemble on site size but it'll depend on the wife (Happy wife, happy life...).
@ArkLord0015 жыл бұрын
@@chud327 I use similar foam to make RC planes. Cheap to get, easy to work with and when you crash a plane, depending on how bad it is, you can fix it with duct tape and hot glue and be back in the air in minutes.
