You're the first person I've seen who actually knows how to use a tractor to plow snow! Great job! The tractor looks amazing and sounds mint!

Make sure to watch my other videos. I have fabricated 4 other plows!!! One SSQA fixed plow/snow pusher for a Mahindra Emax20s. One angle plow for a Bolens HT23. One angle plow Massey quick attach for a Massey 1220. Then a manual angle plow for a Can-Am Defender HD10. So lots of choices! Thanks!

Nice set up and video . I plowed with a 1941 Allis Chalmers C for decades . I used to pull the snow away from the barns and milk house then drag it into the field and lift the back blade and do a u turn to keep from the banks piling up . She’s a parade queen now but thinking of a set up like yours for old times sake . Thanks for sharing

Thanks Joe! I've moved last fall and I am now living on a small farm. The buildings are in the middle of a hayfield. I like your technique. That is totally different from living in a forest! I am still piling up snowbanks, but far enough from the buildings, at least 100ft away. So the winds take care of the pile and blow away part of it!

I had a Case SC tractor until last March. Sold it to a friend and will do a video of it in the spring. My grand father bought it new in 1949. Still has the original rear rubber on it. I believe it to be the very first tractor to come out with disc brakes. They din't work well at all, but what an innovation at the time. When we used it in the woods for dragging up firewood, pound for pound, nothing could pull with it. It even put the John Deeres of the same power to shame. The bit about not having brakes that worked very well kept it to the back of the shed most of the time. It got to see some use, but not much. I needed to sell it because I just do not have enough storage and I do not want my equipment sitting outside. Especially the tractors. The old girl went to a good home.

That tractor pushes that snow so easily I think you could add another foot to the top of the plow and modify the size of the wings and probably cut your passes down quite a bit. What a great set up. Great video!

Thanks Rod M! The studded tire chains make the whole difference. I have always thought of having expanding/sliding wings to cover let's say 10-12 feet wide. Not for thick layer of snow, but when snow is light. My garage door is 10' wide, so it would need to be retractable. Also retractable when snow is too heavy. Thanks for your comment!

Man that really does an awesome job Joe. It will move a lot of snow in a hurry. I have never seen that model of Case before. I knew that they made it as I had seen literature and specs on it yet never actually have seen one. Being a '62, the fact that it is gas is a plus. The older diesels did not want to start well in the frigid weather. Can't blame them.
@FromSteelToWood

I am not a professional mechanic, so a gas engine is a plus for me! Not so frugal, but very reliable. This is the smallest model in the 30 series, from 430 up to 930. I think the 30 series went from 1961 to 1969. They were preceded by the 100 series. Then the letter series like the SC even before. TractorData.com is a good source of information.

The Case tractors of 1960s and 1970s had at least 85% market share in the Cemetary business. Most graves were dug using a Case Backhoes and some Fords. Cemetarys knew the Case was a solid performer and mostly sold on reputation alone. Dracula & Igor approved models came with oil the color of blood, this was phased out around 1976 for bicentennial...Good Presentation 🚜👍

Why did you not make it so you can rotate the blade left and right. Your mount looks solid enough. 22 degrees either way and you could move the snow faster. That kinda looks like an old Case but I do not remember if it only has a single clutch. People have asked me why I did not put a rotary on the back of my MC and my answer is singe stage clutch but with my four way protractor style blade I can move a lot of snow. I have pushed two feet riding top of three. I use my backhoe to dig slots in the snow piles so the water can drain through and into the ground.
@FromSteelToWood
@FromSteelToWood 6 жыл бұрын
I do have the dual clutch, so the live PTO. Back in the time where I did this plow, I was not yet experienced enough to do an angled blade. The blade actually connects to the loader arms exactly like a dirt bucket. I was thinking of retrofiting something to angle it. I don't have any 3rd function. So I would need to use a 6 way diverter valve. So many projects in mind! Can't do it all! Thanks for sharing ideas!

Thanks for watching! Actually, I am not feeling the cold when snow plowing. But there is two reasons. 1- Where I live, the is little or no winds. 2- Driving this tractor requires to move a lot. I should make video of it, from the driver's seat. It is gear&clutch, no power steering, right an left brakes separated for steering assistance. 3 ranges x 4 speeds, 2 separate levers for boom and curl, gas pedal and throtle lever. All of them need to be used in sequence... Thanks for your comment!

Does that snow box trip if it hits something solid like a plow?
@FromSteelToWood
@FromSteelToWood 3 жыл бұрын
No, it does not tilt. I leave it in float mode, so if it hits something, it will raise the front end. So not suitable for high-speed plowing! So far, in 15+ years, I haven't hit anything that would even bend the plow. Thanks!

we had a case 430 0n the farm it was diesel is this gas? it also had triple range road gear which was crazy because it didn't have power steering but it would fly
@FromSteelToWood
@FromSteelToWood 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! It is a gas engine. There was so many variants in this model. Mine is also triple range: Low, Drive, High / 4 speeds each. If you remember, the 4th speed is like 2 times the gear ratio of the 3rd. I've never been able to use the 4th speed of High range! No power steering either on mine. I have the "low profile" version, where the front axle is in line with the wheel's hubs.

Great . My buddies dad had a case 530 on his farm . when our parents were gone we used to take our 430 and his 530 and drag race them up the highway . the 430 would keep up with the 530. The 430 was a good tractor. but being diesel didn't like to start too good in the cold even plugged in . now I have a massey 50 gas that's a great old tractor. where do you live? Im up in Canada near a little town called Perth Ontario

Why wouldn’t you use the snow blower on the back....more efficient, quicker and no huge snow banks...
@FromSteelToWood
@FromSteelToWood 3 жыл бұрын
Hey good question! That is true when you have a modern snowblower and tractor. The snow blower and the tractor are almost 60 years old. The snowblower is sure not so efficient and manually controlled. Moreover, this is a clutch and gear transmission on the tractor and I could not control the speed as desired. If I had a HST transmission along with a modern snowblower, I would surely use it! For now, I use it when it's really really thick snow...Thanks!

Why do you have a snowblower if you use the blade? Did I miss something? Or in the reverse, why have a snowblade if you have the blower? LOL
@FromSteelToWood
@FromSteelToWood 6 жыл бұрын
Malakie Usn, that is a good question. Actually, the snowblower in reverse is really not convenient to use on long period. But when you receive 24"+ of snow, you don't really much have choice to use it. My snowblade has its limits.The other use is to remove the huge snow banks that the plow has piled. I have seen in many years a snow bank 8 feet high by 20 feet long, 30 feet wide. When there is no room left to push the new snow, then you blow the banks further to regain room. There is always the fact that I need a ballast. So better have a snow blower than a ballast box...
@Malakie
@Malakie 6 жыл бұрын
Ahh good point.. I was looking at it from the way I plow with my John Deere.. When we get anything above 12" or more, I usually plow more than once to keep the amount I have to plow down.. Once we hit 6", I plow the first time then every new 6" or so until the storm is done. I usually push back quite far each time so I don't run out of room.. but if I had a blower then that would actually probably be a good solution.. Will have to look into that myself perhaps now that you pointed that out. If you are waiting until it is all done, then yea, the blower does make sense as the blade and your traction would definitely find it tough plowing all of it at once in that regard. Our average storm is about 8" around here but have seen up to 30" + for big storms.. Even worse if we get the wind too.. Am in Wisconsin so we see a lot of snow in a normal winter as well. Got somewhere around 7" last night but am supposed to have a week or so now before we see anything else.
@FromSteelToWood
@FromSteelToWood 6 жыл бұрын
I think Wisconsin and Québec are about the same regarding snowfall and temperature. It is cold and the snow does not really melt between storms... I prefer plowing more than once like you do when big snowfall comes. 6 inches is the sweet spot where it is worth clearing, yet not overwhelming. But sometime, the storm just happen overnight or when I am at work...
@Malakie
@Malakie 6 жыл бұрын
LOL you can say that again.. the snow does not melt here until about May now.. Last week our average temp was about -15 F no windchill, with windchill we were averaging -30 F. And that is normal for us. The southern 1/4 of the state seems to be at the next level pattern in terms of climate as they usually don't get as bad as we do in the central and northern parts of the state.
@FromSteelToWood
@FromSteelToWood 6 жыл бұрын
Yikes, I hate winds! It make things worst. Last week, we got the best of what winter can offer... On Friday, it went up to 50°F with like 2 inches of rain on top the 2ft snow accumulation on the ground. It turned quickly to snow overnight and we woke up in the morning with 8" of snow and -4°F. All within 12hrs. Lot of flooding here and cars frozen in it!
