Get one of those scrappy free bikes on Craigslist and slap the gearshift on those handlebars, youd get alot more out of it 👍

you could use your ice auger motor instead, simply slide the motor off.. drill your holes, and i bet you could even pull a tub with a tent shanty and stuff, while riding it across the ice

Dave Wood it's just an illusion, a strand of plastic that was scraped off the ski is over the metal part in the still picture making it appear as a crack in the frame

Is there any info about sled model? I have exact same sled, same logo on steering wheel and frame shape identical. Just looking for spare parts, like both side plastic skis. Btw, nice work, just need a bit more powerful engine

@Unique Homemade It looks like you removed teeth from the sprocket. What was the advantage of taking the teeth away?

Yes, I have removed half the teeth of the sprocket. These empty spaces coincide with the mounting bolts in the chain.

@@yevhenvenhlovskyi8361 Thank you for explaining the reason. I made a similar dual sprocket drive design for a micro dozer and my chain loses alignment easily. I am considering using a single center drive but you have shown that a dual sprocket drive works without losing alignment.

Can the track/motor be raised and lowered? I'm thinking to adapt to snow conditions and to ride down a hill without the motor running

If you raise the caterpillar, the distance between it and the ground will be about 3-4 cm. It seems to me that this is not enough.

Where did you get the brackets in which you mounted the drive shaft bearings from? how much did they cost?

These parts were made to order according to my drawings. I do not remember exactly how much I paid. Here in Ukraine, this work is inexpensive (maybe $ 20 for all turning works).

I would like to sell the kits, but it is difficult from the point of view of legality, certification, etc. This vehicle for children, and therefore - high demands on security and level of responsibility.

Who give a hoot if he is the first, or the tenth person to build a DIY snowmobile out of a snow GT, it hardly a new idea! we did something like this ten years ago!

Not sure who the owner of the DIY video is but thats somewhat irrelevant. The principle works well but its quite poorly executed for reliability. 1. track is homemade, chains are made of steel (rust will eat this concept alive in no time). 2. track is extremely unsafe for moving parts with aluminum pieces just attached to the chain. 3. Motor has low hour run life, list goes on and on. Bottom line, you are better off getting an older snowmobile, fix up the motor, and putting a speed limiter on the revs for kid play. Ski-doo also makes a smaller (but quite expensive) kid snowmobile for this very application. Safety trumps all other savings, your kid's hospital bill / death will cost more than a safe winter toy when that track breaks apart or a piece goes flying into a by-standing child.

You could expect 1000hrs plus from one of those Stihl professional line trimmer motors , I'm a contractor use them day in day out , we get 8+ years out of them .
