This is the big project I hinted at in the last video! Really hope you guys enjoy this one, as it took a very long time to make this happen! As always, safety was of the utmost concern, as can be seen by the heavy duty mask thing. Hopefully I can figure out a solution to the track problem! More videos will come out this summer on another project while I'm away in Massachusetts, so stay tuned!

yea, you need proper tracks, those won't hold, I knew how difficult it is to build them, I'm building something similar but smaller scale , you need a safe foolproof formula, once succeed, repeat that thousands more times, I wish you good luck, you made it look exciting

During the summer me and my friends want to build a Sherman tank and I was given the job to engineer plan pay for most of this stuff but the only problems that I have are that we don’t know what equipment is need to construct this all and don’t know how the driving system will work do you have any advice?
@All_Original
@All_Original 5 ай бұрын
Use a differential and attach brake disks to it for steering, it’s a massive improvement over the old steering system. For the engine, I’m using a 18hp duromax engine, which works great. For the tracks, just use double ear chain and bolt it to some pieces of wood. My tracks are 10in x 3in, which allows for plenty of movement and bending. For the drive sprockets, find some chain sprockets that match the double ear chain. The sprockets and track really depend on how large you want the tank to be, for a larger vehicle, use bigger chain. Beyond that, it really depends on your design snd size. Just a warning that this project has cost in excess of $5,000 so far, and you should definitely do a ton of research first to find the cheapest components you can, because costs rise really quickly. Hope this helps, and good luck!

wanna do a battle when mine is finished? (its powerd by a 10hp briggs and has 2 go kart trannsmisions that control the tracks) oh btw how did you make your track setup? 2 clutches or what?
@Goobs-ero
@Goobs-ero 29 күн бұрын
Also, if you guys do somthing similar, you could do 2 different moters one attached to one side and the other one of the other side with 2 “gas” pedals to control each side differently. Also maybe do a smaller tank like the L3/33, m22 locast, a Stuart, German ASU somthing, a short tank destroyer like the stugg, or if your feeling goofy, a mini muas oh yeah, AND DO NOT FORGET TO PUT A HOLE IN THE ROOF FOR A HATCH
@All_Original
@All_Original 28 күн бұрын
So the issue with using two engines was actually space, as the smaller engines I planned to use for that method wouldn’t fit in the engine compartment. I would strongly recommend using a differential system like I have instead, as with a dual engine setup you still need some sort of clutch for both engines, and of course no two engines are exactly the same so you may run into steering issues. Also, with the differential system the tank is pretty much forced to turn due to brakes being applied to one track, whereas with a dual engine system the tank will end up with a massive turning radius due to the unpowered track still being able to freewheel.

Very impressive work and a sound design.... except for the lack of suspension. The british-style of tank you're emulating here works primarily by crushing obstacles underneath its weight, which probably wont work with a lightweight wooden vehicle. I'd also be worried about how long your tracks are going to last, but that should easily be fixable with rubber pads screwed onto them.
@All_Original
@All_Original 11 ай бұрын
Thanks, imma look into the rubber thing. As far as suspension, I’m not to worried about that affecting it’s mobility, however I am going to add a SMALL amount of travel with the use of phnumatic wheels instead of solid rubber

Ok so picture the gear changing system on a bike. The only difference is that instead of the 7 or 8 gears you have on a bike there are only 2 gears: on, and off. The “on” gear is a chain sprocket attached to the drive shaft. The “off” gear is an idler sprocket (a chain sprocket that can rotate without moving the shaft). There’s one of these mechanisms per track
@Potato667

@@All_Original thanks a lot, I’m thinking of building a tank myself, but I need to find ways to make it cheap and functional. My first idea for the tank was to have to engines and you adjust the power separately this way you can go left or right while still moving and it also gives you more power, but again if I do this I’m going to go over budget

Potentially, however the drive sprockets are made specifically for these tracks. otherwise I totally would have used them. thanks!
@Necro-the-Pyro
@Necro-the-Pyro Жыл бұрын
@@All_Original It's actually very easy to DIY drive sprockets for internally toothed tracks. I've made them out of metal with a welder, but for you, get 2 plywood circles, drill a circle of holes in them, get some 1/2" threaded rod and some lock nuts and washers, and get some steel tubing of the appropriate diameter to fit nicely between the internal track teeth. Stick the threaded rod through the holes in one piece, slide lengths of steel tubing over the threaded rod, put the 2nd plywood piece on the other end, add more lock nuts and washers and tighten the plywoods together so that the tubes get locked in place with friction. Crank the nuts down to the point that the tubes start biting into the wood, it might help to bevel the ends to a 45 or so to help them bite. Alternatively if you wanted to try fabbing a stronger track, you could potentially use lengths of steel cable to stitch the treads together by drilling 2 holes in each tread and using the cable like sewing thread to weave through each tread, although you would have to figure a way to tie the ends of the cable together without having to leave a gap in the treads, so you might need a few sets with doubled cable. Also I saw you said you're new to engines, don't run gas engines in enclosed spaces, the fumes can kill you, and just in case you didn't know, you have to add oil to 4 strokes before you run them or they'll break very fast.

I used a DuroMax XP18HP 440cc Engine (link: www.amazon.com/DuroMax-XP18HPE-Electric-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B06ZY7H7ZQ/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2Q1MK47ZK936H&keywords=10hp%2Bgas%2Bengine&qid=1675254979&s=hi&sprefix=10hp%2Bgas%2B%2Ctools%2C95&sr=1-2&th=1 ), and turning is controlled by taking the right or left track out of gear, although I’m planning on improving this system by adding brakes to both tracks that will work in conjunction with the steering system by locking a track once it’s out of gear so it can’t move, thus allowing the tank to have a smaller turning radius. Thanks for the comment!
