In this episode I will show you how I made my homemade tire bead breaker. I made adjustable so I can use it on many size tires. I hope you will enjoy this video as I enjoyed making it for you. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me and I will be happy to answer your questions. Thank you for watching and thank you for your support. Be safe and have a great day,

I was at a gas station & saw an old manual bead breaker like this on a shelf in the way back. I gave them $40 for it...40 years ago. I have NEVER paid to have a tire mounted & balanced in my life.

Good morning sir, you are correct. This works great, it does not require electricity, an expensive machine or a large air compressor. I saw one similar back in the 80s overseas at a tire shop and I built a few myself. I appreciate your comment. Be safe and have a great day

@@SalamSayhood In the '70's I used to change my tires at a gas station myself, for free, using their 1960's pneumatic machine.An old guy there took a liking to me & taught me all the basics & the do's & dont's when I was 16. When they closed around 1979, they gave me their older machine. The pneumatics don't work on it, but it serves as a base to mount my rims with tires on... then I use a 36" tire bar with duck end & manually change all my rubber. I'll use a 4 foot helper bar on that if the rubber is really old & stiff. I bought a bubble balancer from JCWhitney in the 80's too. Before the internet, I'd walk into large tire chains (Town Fair Tire) & want to pay cash for tires & leave (Cash & carry). They'd ask "What are you gonna do with those tires?"... insinuating, 'only they have the ability to mount tires'. I told them , "I'm gonna hang them from a tree branch & swing! "😆😁 I'm 61 y/o. I've changed all my tires my entire life. Now I can buy tires online & pick up at Super Walmart, saving hundreds of dollars in mounting/balancing FEES. I've probably saved thousands of dollars by doing it myself since I was 16y/o. And I enjoy it. It's therapeutic to me.I've done it for friends too. I even changed my large 4 foot tall backhoe/loader rear tires on my FREE, MANUAL tire machine!! Before I found my $40 manual bead breaker like yours at a gas station, I did it many ways. I'd drive up onto a 2x4 ramp to break the bead or I'd use our Bobcat skidsteere grapple attachment & close the jaws onto a steel wedge with a dimple drilled into the wedge, for the grapple tine to set into....& break beads that way. JCWhitney also sells very cheaply made bead breakers using the same principle as yours.

You and I are alike. I like to fix everything myself, as you said it's some type of therapy 😆 beside the ability to save hard earned money. I bought tires from many sources too. I am planning to build a wheel balancer in the future as I have most of the material for it. In addition, at the tire shop, they charge anywhere from $10 to $$ for each old tire as disposal fees. I just put an ad on Craigslist and give them for free and usually I get rid of old tires the same day. I think people use them as a swing from trees 😆

@@SalamSayhood Your are a very good welder (& mechanic) from what I see. I too operated & wrenched on, maintained heavy equipment, excavators,dump trucks,backhoes, skid-steeres, etc.for the 1st 1/2 of my life, before KZbin. But my welding skills are limited to STICK welding. I have a very good friend who is a welder by trade & IMO you & he are like genius's. A pro-welder has an entirely different approach as to how to deal with problems. My hat is off to you! I'm a plumber by trade now, for the last 18 years. My work attitude is: "No problems, only solutions." It's very apparent you do to! My bead breaker is a Ken-Tool T98 DELUXE FLOOR TYPE BEAD BREAKER (35998). I've found them on the internet from $250-$750! $40 forty years ago was a bargain & is the best manual, lightweight one from my experience with the exception of yours, of course.

Same here, I was introduced to welding and automotive/heavy equipment in 1983 (my family business). In my opinion welding is easy. If you can stick weld, then other methods are easier to learn. Brazing is also a good welding method. I posted a few videos showing brazing (silver, solder and bronze).

That tool is to say a genius invented tool. I have seen time after time the 'slow' tire bead popper that is such a struggle to make it pop tire beads . This tool looks like maybe a tool that does the job it's supposed to do, and it probably works the first time
@SalamSayhood
@SalamSayhood Жыл бұрын
The first one I built was for a friend who has tire shop. It worked 99% of the time. Sometimes they had to use the claw and hammer to pop the stubborn tire beads. When I built the second one, I made the arm longer and the spoon into the shape I showed in this video. This made it pop every bead with no issues. Thank you for the watching and for the feedback.

Good morning sir, I just made it from some scrap metal that I have. You can alter the dimensions base on the metal that is available to you. Just make sure everything is at least 1/4" thick. The metal that I used: The base (2"X2"-1/4" thick) angles is 12"x41" outside to outside. The vortical two angles (2"X2"- 1/4" thick) are 29" long. The spoon two flat stock are 1.5"x0.5" and they are 12" long. The spoon is made from 1.5"x0.5" flat stock and they are 4" long. The pipe is 2" outside diameter pipe with 1/8" thick wall. The blue plates are 8"x15"- 1/4" thick. All the holes are spaced 2" center to center. If you have more questions, please let me know.

Well i will say it again. Outstanding craftsmanship. You brother are a Godsend to those of us that are thinking things like this over and are out of our league. Thank You AGAIN. Edit: I re-watched this again cause I was truly thinking about making this attempt and suddenly realized, I do not have the basic skill set to do what you just did. It truly is remarkable and I found it quite funny when you FF thru some of the work you were doing and thinking, "Dang, wish we really could work at that speed, cause I would have this done in 2 hours." But, I stopped kidding myself and realized let the pro's do what they do and show off their skill set but honestly this is a hugely patent able design and you really should file for a patent. Then sell your design Thru a license right to a "GOOD" reliable company that will not alter the design or specifications even 1 bit and sell it with a lead time of I dunno 4-6 weeks for production or less with a slower sale rate but this is wholly an outstanding work of design and craftsmanship as I stated before. About the only minor flaw (for longevity purposes) is a impact rubber handle end and maybe the same thing on the Blade Depressor as those 2 already had loss of paint during this demonstration. But my goodness for the backwoodsman, or rural DIY'er, you could easily sell 5-15,000 the first year. AND I would BE ON THAT LIST.

Good, strong, durable bead breaker. But it looks like the beads on those tires were recently broken, then reseated. How does it work, on really tough beeds?
@SalamSayhood
@SalamSayhood 7 ай бұрын
The four wheeler tires were 7 years old. The trailer tires were old and dry and I am not sure of the age as I bought them with an old RV three years prior to this video. The tractor tires were the original off my 2010 year model tractor. The two backhoe tires, one was old and dry rotted and the other was new (installed about 1 and a half year prior to this video). I have two other videos showing these tires in detail, if you watch them, you will see some of them had very old green slime and how rusted from the inside. What you saw, is the real time bead braking. I did work in an auto repair shop in the past. You are right, some tires have tough beads. I think this bead breaker will do just fine with tough beads. Thank you for watching

Happy new year.

Really like your build, but 12" with seems narrow to me. Would you rather have had wider than 8" plate that determines width? Most of my wheels are 17" or 18" 275 to 305 tire size. Thanks
@SalamSayhood
@SalamSayhood Жыл бұрын
When I built it, I had to use available scrap metal. I also wanted to make it as light as possible to be able to move it easy. The width of the base was okay. You really just need the same width as the spoon. If you want to make it bigger and more stationary, then you can build the base wider. Thank you

I drive my truck up/on a 2+10 ramp to break the nasty beads. I'm hard pressed to see this machine breaking REALLY old or bias beads ... I do like your build and will probably build something similar though ...
@SalamSayhood

It was easy to break the beads on the backhoe and trailer old tires. If you going to deal with bigger tires, then use bigger angles for the two that hold the pipe. Thank you for watching.
