You should design a turntable that uses a spring motor that can play at all 3 speeds, and have a horn mounting system thats not front mount so you can use an actual phonograph horn. You should also cut the needle so it's not as long and dull the tip, that might reduce wear and make it sound better.

i made a gramophone using a cup and a thumbtack its distorted but it plays fine! Awesome video!

Thanks 😀 👍. Glad you enjoyed the video. It is amazing how little technology is required to get the sound off a record. You may find this video interesting too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gISuYomoiqp0bc0

I’m doing something similar. I’ve uploaded both sides of an EP that was possibly used in a jukebox being played acoustically using a homemade horn. The record is worn, but my system does not damage it further very much. More to come soon, already done some filming and more is to be recorded.

I'd love to see a video with all the different parts you used in this and your other gramophone (with the arm for the bells). I wish to build some things like this with my class. :)

Thanks for the comments and good idea. I'll try to do a combination video where I show ways of approaching each bit and put together a whole gramophone.

Just published a new video which show the whole build process end to end: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gISuYomoiqp0bc0 Hope that helps :-)

Is there a bad effect on the grooves of locally made needles? So that the sound is affected later or is there any problem? Thank you for your video and good and my evaluation

It probably isn't very good for the records and yes there is a risk the pin or needle will damage the record. Don't do this with important or valuable records. Its also important to get the weight on the needle quite low - less than 5g is good for vinyl - but for 78s it can be much higher (eg 50g).

Hello, I'm a retired mechanic and i building something very close to this, At what angel did you decide to run your needle? I see gramophones use a 60 degree set back, but those are not modern records, Thanks again!

Hi, interesting to hear you are building something similar. :-) Will you post a video of it? I've treated vinyl records much like the old 78s and used a similar 60deg approximately angle. I've also kept the pressure down by using a counterweight, and used a sewing pin instead of a gramophone needle. I have made several videos trying different things out. Have you seen my acoustic vinyl player build?: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gISuYomoiqp0bc0 Thanks.

Thanks for responding, Yes i will up load a video of it, Im 5 years over due on my channel ha ha, I will go check out your other video, I dont normally like to ask, but would you be willing to look at my homemade steam engine videos? I think you would like these, I have an apocalyptic dream. I have a USB microscope im going to have to dig out so i can look at my needles.

Thanks, very interesting steam engine videos. I like the way you tension the belt to the generator, looks like an elastic band. I do something similar for the motor on my home made record player turn table. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHLEh4CcgcSjq80 Always meant to build a steam engine but never quite got around to doing it. Might still happen though :-)

mrrgstuff , You are the only person in 6 years to notice then floating generator with rubber band tensioner, Believe it or not, I'm still working on it, i have a 220v mig welder now and need to build a new boiler. And i have a much nicer generator that can really put out some power, Are you still making projects? And what did you think of my penny sorter??
@mrrgstuff6 жыл бұрын
Yes, still regularly making projects. At the moment it's a mix of DIY gramophone and electronics, but I have lots of other ideas too. Penny sorter us great and works very well. Haven't built one of those but have a similar build I might make a video about. :-)

I do love these videos wish I had more time to sit and watch through, but I am catching up as I can... That is no way to treat a dressmaker pin, lol... BTW I have not seen an Embassy label of that design before??? Sounds awful of course, but hey this was a thoroughly entertaining vid....

Glad you liked it! Yes, it's not the best sound. I'm getting better at this, but still far from the sound quality of a commercial unit. The record is a 45rpm from about 1958. I'm not sure, but I don't remember another one with the same label, but we have 100s of 45s, but I leave them to the wife! 😉 Thanks 😀👍
