The best for hikers…yes. But, not only hikers. Dixie is for everyone with a sense of adventure, for everyone with a desire to learn about and witness nature. I think that’s why she is so appreciated…everyone feels so connected to her as she shares her journey.

In certain Native American cultures, 3 sisters are reference to corn, beans and squash grown on the same mound. The corn provides the stock for the bean, the squash provides damp ground cover and the roots each one contains provides nourishment to the others. It's harmony at its antithesis.

At 6:54 where you say "those mountains look crazy", I'm guessing those are not mountains, but old cinder cones. Old volcanoes. There are a lot of them in Mammoth Lakes Valley near and south of Lone Pine and Death Valley, but not that big! That black stuff is obsidian. Geology 101 is a fun class if you are in college out west! The field trips are a blast! UC Boulder even has classes now for lifelong learners so retired people can go and learn stuff. Fun! Sometimes Community Colleges do too. All those big universities out west have summer digs you can sign up for for geology, archeology, and dinosaurs! I did that in Ohio one summer digging up and saving an old Maumee Indian burial site from an encroaching river bend. Learned so much!

Thanks Dixie for reminding me what I have right in my backyard. Have lived in Oregon for 72 of my 76 years. Even lived on a ranch between Bend and Sisters as a teenager. Have been backpacking with a brother (now that I am "old") in the central Oregon cascades for several years a few days each summer (camping & fishing). It is great to see what all I have missed so far. Your footage is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Don from Eugene....

Dixie, I truly admire you actually finishing every step. Seeing that section was amazing, it did look like what I would think some other planet would look like! Totally Amazing! I have watch all of your video’s. Ok so I am a Dixie adventure addict. LoL I have honestly watch your AT several times. That is my last goal in life today. I had it planned in 2019 to do it in 2021. Right after my planned retirement date at 62. Well ....life happened. I tore my knee and after a long awaited surgery, then even longer recovery. I am not in near the shape that I was in and even less savings. Boy being down and not working for 6 months, sure ate my AT money! Now I am back to square one....the debate...the concern of blowing out another’s part! Ugg The self challenge is real! You do keep inspiring me to get out there and hike again. I thought I would never be able to. Then fought the ever not loving rona! Ugg! Life! Oh well I haven’t quit hiking, it is just a matter of buying my At gear now. After saving and trying for years for my retirement party for ne on the AT. I am not so sure now if it is even a shadow of a possibility for me. 😭 keep those videos coming. Blessings from Oklahoma? Oh by the way, how is Perk? Do you know? Thankful for everything you do. Ly

You video of the Three Sisters section is perfect. You make me want to return there this summer even though I hiked that almost every summer in the 1970s and 80s. The Three Sisters is every bit as beautiful as you show and I am extremely happy you were able to recover the video. I hope you were able to recover the Mt Jefferson video, too, because it burned again in September 2020 and remained closed through 2021, and probably again this summer. My first backpacking there was in 1965, when we went a week hiking all over the area and only saw two other people.
