The opening scene with Fancy Mae is just priceless! To think that initially you thought that as a rescue dog she was a bit timid. By that point she was Fancy Free (pardon the pun)!

Dixie, whatever you did to salvage that footage, was so worth it. Just the beginning with the dog having SO much fun in the snow but also just showing how awesome your Mama was is also worth it. She's a trooper for sure. So we live less than 30 miles from where the PCT crosses the 10 Freeway and have hiked a bit of it there. If you ever come again and need help, or just some trail magic, I'd love to assist you. Just so you know, you have a 'friend' in Southern California.

I'm so happy for you (and me 😉) that you were able to retrieve the footage! Maybe I'm just tired, but I teared up thinking about how special it must have been to have your mom come do some fairly serious hiking with you. How fortunate you are to have shared that time. When I hiked the AT in 2010, I don’t think my mom really understood what I was doing or why. Her health problems didn’t allow her to hike w me, but I drove the 2 of us to Trail Days the following yr and we were able to camp together for 2 nights nearby. She got to eat hiker food, shower outdoors at a campsite, and sit around a campfire until a rain storm came in and then sleep in a cozy bag w the rain beating on the tent. Best 2 nights camping in my life. She was never (as) worried about me out on trail w the community she was able to experience that weekend.

Hello Miss Dixie. Wonderful footage. Got a huge smile watching your dog. I want you to know you have been a HUGE encouragement for me to start hiking again. I went almost 30 years without a single hike. I now have almost all my gear for a thru of the PCT. My wife is very encouraging even though she is disabled from a car accident and 33 major surgeries. That is the toughest challenge: finding friends to travel with her in the RV to reach the places where I will cross the major roads. I am finding the entire process exciting. It's exciting that in a special way my wife and I can share the adventure.

What a joy to have this data recovered, very happy for me. I use to live by Donner summit California. On business trips from Sacramento to Reno, I often picked up PCT hikers in the summit and took them to Truckee, and vice versa on they home I would bring people back to Donner summit. It was a joy to hear the trail stories. As a hiker I so much was jealous that I wasn't on trail.

I remember camping up in Newbury Crater in Oregon and the clouds of mosquitos being just about panic-inducing. First I’m waking up my sons dog laughing at Fancy Mae! Then I’m suffering with you all in the mosquitoes. And lastly I’m crying because the hiking community is so kind and generous. Today I did a what’s in my pack talk and I spoke about the passionate trail angels the Arizona trail. When my birthday was found out, a trail Angel left me two oranges and a pack of Oreos and a card at the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead. So I’m sad this young man got killed, and I’m eating birthday treats from a ziplock bag with my name on it, and I’m hundreds of miles from my Montana home. Trambly.
