I think one of the greatest disservice a parent does is to not teach their children to work in the home. It’s a privilege to live in a family that lifts the load for each other. One day they will leave knowing how to care for a home and themselves. Grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, yard work, basic auto maintenance are all part of training children to be profitable citizens.

Yes, I couldn’t agree more! My husband I both weren’t taught/raised in a “working” functional home and had a huge learning curve when we got married. I love that we have the opportunity to teach our kids now!

She will not have to worry for them when they will be on their own one day and she is helping her futur daughter in laws and son in laws … seeing how they were raised will help all her kids to be an example for their children later and life goes on … good loving home!!

I feel like I failed this job with the 3 kids only being 18 months apart from another, it was easier to just do it myself - BUT I want to change this. They are still young. Where to start? Any tipps?

@@sylviaknoll6467 i suppose it xill be hard to begin depending their age..showing them how to bake cookies.. or dressing a pizza.. how to cook eggs.. specially being careful not yo burn themselves.. make them eat what they bake.. helping in anyway they can.. if you have a man in the house he could show them how to plant flowers just one step to planting vegetables.. well for sewing.. or knitting like making a muffler or a scarf .. not forgetting to play once in a while.. 😉

I quit my job almost a year ago to be a full time SAHM to 3 kids 5 and under. I was very good at my job and have struggled with overwhelm, thought I was just really bad at being a SAHM, and nothing is ever done. Thank you for your tips and the encouragement; just like it took me years to master my job, it will take time to develop my homemaking skills.

I only have 2 children, but I do laundry daily because I have a hereditary bedwetter that has his laundry pile up. It's getting better slowly, but it gets overwhelming if I don't.

I am such an overwhelmed woman. I work full time, I am in school full time, I have 9 children, and I am just simply stretched too thin. Ideally Id love to let my full time job go but realistically the only thing that can go is the schooling. However, I took that on so that in a few years I can work a position that is better suited for my family. So for now I am struggling, I am overwhelmed, I am tired, but this is just a season and I have to keep reminding myself of that.

I've been a homemaker for 53 years and always cleaned as I cooked. When your meal is ready...your kitchen is CLEAN! 👍

Me too….even washing pots utensils as I go along. My husband is my “nightmare” when he cooks 😜. If he has to take something out/down to get to something else, he LEAVES IT OUT. If he cooks three things, there are 3 dirty spoons out. Even the spices, etc he uses are left out after added. The benefits of not having to cook are completely negated by the 35 minute post diner cleanup 😉

This is such a refreshing perspective in our day's current culture of mom's constantly complaining about the "mental load" of motherhood. Embrace it! Establish habits! There's no end in sight, but you settle into your own rhythms and there's so much joy there. Thank you! Wish I had this when I first became a homemaker.

I never heard any woman in my day complain of not having enough "me" time or being overwhelmed. Sure, most of us can get overwhelmed with multiple children in the home but when you stop and think about how those children came to be you realize that you were the one who made that child. Just a lot of entitlement and lack of sacredness in our society.

Yes when I got into a good routine it got much easier. Did you not feel like you needed time to yourself when your child was a baby? I need a little bit but I think once she is older and more independent and not waking up to nurse at night I won't.

I think it's partly because first time mothers are expected to automatically be behaving and on top of stuff like seasoned mothers. We compare the first time stressed parent who isn't sure if their baby is having a seisure or just needs to burp with a mom who already does things on autopilot, has optimized her house, her routines. We compare young parents who still have long ways to grow with seasoned couples who have learned how to accept and let go. Being a parent and understanding children takes skill and once you have it it's like retaking a test for the same subject over and over. You do have to brush off and update your knowledge but the first few times were the hardest. And then we make the young ones feel like whatever they do is never good enough because look, that mom of 5 can not only do all of this easily but also works from home and homeschools and has a garden etc. The husbands also have to learn how to help and pitch in and adopt these habits. Helping husbands quickly learn to embrace things that make cleaning or cooking easier (like robotic vacuums or certain cooking utensils) so there's less internal arguments about how the house is ran. Men tend to like the same things in the same place but with an everchanging home that flows this is not quite realistic and again them adopting this mindset frees up the space for optimizing. Lastly, USA is excessive in pushing individual carreers above families and making having a family either only for the priviledged rich or an unrealistic burden. Sending women back to work a month after birth is bonkers.

@@braria9855 Becoming a mother starts in the formative years. Playing with dolls ( do girls even play house or with dolls anymore? Other than hooker fashioned dolls like "bratz"? ) The same for boys. Becoming a parent starts long before adulthood and when children are left to parent themselves while mom and dad are at work then those future parenting skills are not developed. Yes, women have been brainwashed to have a "career" when being a mother is the greatest career on Earth. It has been demeaned, marginalized and demoralized.

Just a quick thank you. Most of the homesteader/homemaker accounts I've come across on youtube and instagram completely ignore working moms. We are homemakers too! We just also work elsewhere in addition to being homemakers. I appreciate that you mentioned mothers who work at the beginning of your video. Being a homemaker is about the love and feelings you create in your home, not just the amount of hours you're in your home. I wish more of these accounts would acknowledge that! (And yes, I also wish more accounts in general acknowledged the financial contribution of mothers who do not work for pay)

True and when working outside the home, you pull double duty! I too worked outside the home for 4 years while my kids were in middle school and in sports and band. There were days when I didn't have it all together, but that's okay. Kids pitch in when they know how and that is such a blessing. Hats off to all Mom's and those that work outside the home as well!

They probably don’t talk about it as much because It’s a bit different when you’re a full time homemaker. Your home is on 24/7, for example you’re the one tending to your children 24/7, not split up by someone else tending to them too for half the day. That’s a HUGE difference. Their financial contribution is the work they do inside of their home and not paying for childcare. You can’t understand their lifestyle completely because you don’t do the same things they do.. and same with them. One isn’t more right, it’s just the lifestyle that you chose!My advice would be to stop watching channels that don’t share your lifestyle and then being frustrated they don’t talk about your situation and try to find bloggers who do share your lifestyle. Might help you find the validation that you’re looking for.

As a home schooling mom of a 7 year old, 3 year old and newborn, my advice is to not compare yourself to families where both parents work. Their kids are gone all day. It's not as easy for us. I've gotten to where I don't even have people over. I've just accepted we need to meet at parks and other places. We get out and about a lot though

Thanks for not greenwashing your bathroom cleaning routine! We try really hard to keep our house clean as naturally as possible, but there are some places that occasionally need something like bleach.

It can be done… I have never allowed bleach in my home for going on 4 decades. There’s hydrogen peroxide when you really need it. Originally it was because I’d lost too many clothes to my mother’s bleach habit, and now it’s because I don’t use toxic products

Just suggesting this laundry tip for anyone who might agree/find it helpful. Wash your kitchen towels/cloths in a separate wash. I use bleach, hot water and detergent. When you think about all the ways we use them in the kitchen it makes sense not to wash them with the families underwear and socks. Hope this is helpful for someone 😊

I do the same. I wash towels/cloths separate and I wash sheets separate. That is just what I find best for my family. I always say that my mom was a “laundry artist”. 😂 I get my laundry routine from her. I actually enjoy doing laundry and love the soothing sound of the washer and dryer running. I guess I’m a laundry geek 🤓

I wash kitchen towels separately with a cup of vinegar and an extra rinse cycle. It takes out any nasty smells and it doesn't take out the color!

I was always taught to treat any absorbents (towels, kitchen cloths, etc) as a separate category that must be treated differently. Within that, there has to be a "clean" and a "less clean" wash for reusable nappies and pads and such

Growing up w a single working parent my brother and I had assigned chores some daily and some weekly. We also did the laundry which included folding and putting away. Also, my older brother had greater responsibility of making sure things were done according to mom’s instructions. The only thing my mom did was cook either in the evening or on the weekends. This has greatly taught us responsibility for our home and in our life in general. On a side note, growing up in the 80’s & 90’s students were punished and rewarded by doing paper pick up around our school. All these duties truly benefited us kids growing up.

Lovely video! I love your home and decor! As a homemaker with 4 kids I actually do let stiff slide on occasion when I feel overwhelmed or tired. I go take a bath, a nap, or call a girlfriend! I get some soul care❤ Then when I return to the task it is that much easier with my fresh mindset! 😊 Sometimes I even close my eyes for 10 minutes in the evening before putting my kids to bed 😅 Taking good care of myself first seems to give me more energy for the house and kids so I actually get MORE done by pausing ❤

As a mom who stayed home and raised 7 kids, I can agree with everything you said. It's much easier to keep up with the cleaning as you go along, rather than overwhelm yourself by waiting until you have to do it all at once. "Homemaking and mothering is the hardest job you'll ever love." I don't recall where I first heard that saying, but it's so true! It takes diligence and efficiency when you have a large family. The management skills you develop are so undervalued.

You said a mouth full! I am a mother of 10, and now a grandmother of 15 and I remember thinking gee, Will these things ever slow down for me! Loving to decorate and make a home beautiful, and teaching my kids how to help around the house! But I just did it everyday, and today it seems crazy not having to mop everyday!!! I didn’t have those robots to vac and mop my floors back them! But today with all the stuff on the market to help, it sure would have been one less thing to do, and I could read , color are paint with my kids!!! Love this! But so glad those days are behind me, and I get my grands, and then take them home! And come home and take a nap, they wear me out, but I play with them the whole time!!! We moved about a few months ago and I still find myself struggling to get into a good grove. I feel that I have so many things to manage on a day to day basis that I completely forget to even potty train my kids. I'm a SAHM and my kids are homeschooled I have 3. I also struggle finding the time to do homeschooling. What on earth am I doing with my day? I chase after the kids, I clean up countless amounts of toys which I'm seriously considering getting rid of, cleaning the house which seems to be never ending. I do laundry everyday except the weekends. I know I need to get my kids to help out more, my oldest is nearly 6. But by the time I get around to doing that, it's more of a struggle. I don't have them helping me in the kitchen because of clutter right now. You've given me some good tips.

I am certain you will figure out little things that will help along the way...I definitely try to keep things to a minimum which helps a great deal, kids like to help and be responsible...invite them in to help. Training your children on how to do age appropriate tasks and letting them try harder things really pays off in confidence for them and the contribution they make to the family.

I’m 1 of 10 kids and 8 of us were homeschooled and home making was part of my moms schooling we learned everything from grocery shopping to cleaning house but since there were so many of us the house always seemed to be dirty one way or another. Now I’m an adult and pregnant with my first and man has this 8 months been an adventure, I’ve been trying to get into habits that keep my house clean and watching your video made me realize that there is no right way or wrong way there’s just the way that works for you and your family so I think I’m gonna apply that mindset while cleaning and apply some of your habits you share as well and see how they work for me and my family. You do such an Amazing job of homemaking. I only had 2 children & I personally don't think I could have handled more. I Love them to pieces & they are now in their 30's. I worked long hours as a Nurse mainly on 2nd shift but I had a routine each morning of doing laundry & making the dinner for my family & cleaning my kitchen before I went to work. I think the example you are showing your children of how to care for your home & family is invaluable.

You know Lisa, when I was a stay at home Mom, when both of my children were little, and starting again in the workplace, I was so tired of hearing, what was your main job! Like raising children, and maintaining a home is NOT a full time job! If you have children, THAT is a full time job, plus maintaining a house! I agree with you with maintaining a house and laundry. I think everyone in the house should contribute to help keeping the house manageable! I would love to get Brook linen, but I don’t know if they ship to the U.K.

I was a working mom. My boys were told if you to go to the park, swimming, etc, you need to help me clean. My home was tidy, with lots of giggles, it was a race who did it the fastest, who did it the best, and who was the slowest. Amazingly I was always the last, the slowest. Was it the cleanest, no it wasn’t. But the kiddos had fun and our home was tidy. My boys wife’s are always amazed at how well they can clean, and they are fast. Chores don’t have to be hard, they can be a game. Remember to tell your little ones, how well they doing. I still love to look at my home when it’s clean and tidy.

Totally agree about resetting the kitchen after each meal. When I started washing my pots and pans IMMEDIATELY after use, it really helped too.

One thing that helped me. I have one room/project for each day of the week that I deep clean. Mon-bathrooms wash towels tues-kitchen/mop floors, etc. along with daily cleaning maintenance. This has helped me stay on top of my home with 3 kids constantly in and out! Thanks for sharing your wisdom Lisa!

That last tip is gold! Just leaning into the fact that no product or influencer is going to sell you something that is gonna miraculously keep your kids and dogs from tracking mud in or get you out of cleaning that toilet. To just get it done. To constantly keep moving. It is a completely real thing to procrastinate on something and have the frog grow the size of a building because you let it get really bad. 😅 As a mom of five now i wish i could tell that to my younger self who could have built these habits earlier. I prefer the word "Rhythym" over "routine. It gives the impression to my brain that its a natural course of tasks that flows seemlessly, instead of a task that disrupts my day.

Thank you for the encouragement!! I worked for the first couple years of my marriage and started staying home about 2 years ago. We have been in our own place for about a year and a half and have an 8 month old. It definitely can be overwhelming but videos like yours are such an encouragement to me. They make me excited to learn new things and work on my homemaking skills! You (and Sarah Therese Co.) also actually inspired me to start doing sourdough! It’s been about two weeks and I’ve made so many different things already. Bread, pancakes, garlic bites, cookies, buns, and I’m in the middle of making some naan bread from my discard. So I guess I say all of that to let you know this 25 year old just starting my homemaking journey is very grateful for you and your encouragement 😊

This was great, thank you! I agree with this. We're only a family of 5 but daily laundry was a game changer in our home. Each kid does their own laundry and gets their own laundry day, I do the laundry for my husband and myself and each get their own day, the other two days are for linens, towels, rugs, etc. This keeps a nice manageable flow for us without it all falling on one person.

I hear you on the kitchen. I am always wiping and cleaning because my motto is, I cannot cook in a dirty kitchen. Although, I clean my kitchen after every use, my two older boys every night take turns wiping the counter and vacuuming the kitchen. There is no grime and grease build up as the kitchen is constantly being cleaned.

I am a working grandmother and I love your channel! Just a couple of comments to add to what you said in this video. Caring for your family home is a form of exercise that can keep you healthy as you age. It’s a wonderful way to nurture yourself and husband/children while you move throughout your day. Just remember to check in with your physical therapist to make sure you are practicing good body mechanics as you go. 4 months ago we moved and packed all toys in boxes, we didn’t find a permanent house until 2 months later and then i had a baby and two more months past after that….well it has been 6 months with my children only having their books, their favourite plushy and their bikes. They never ask me for their toys….they have now new neighbours that like riding bikes so that’s what they do most of the times other than playing in the garden, reading or drawing… Im seriously considering heavily decluttering our huge toy collection. I love toys, they are good quality toys, many from a montessori school that close…but honestly they gave us so much work and they have literally forgotten about it. Im just watching what happens for now 😅

For some reason I thought I *had* to have a “big cleaning” day, but it has been so much easier to just tackle an issue as I see it! I use the same strategy as you do and I find it just works best to clean something everyday when I see it and I do 1 load of laundry a day. This makes I have free time every single day and it all never feels overwhelming 😊 love your videos and how real and down to earth they are!

1 big one for me is to have less stuff in storage. I have a Christmas tree, a box of ornaments and lights and a bin for winter items that are not used often or for emergencies.I also have one small box of my son's items. I was storing things for someday or because I did not have my house set up how I should use it, not how other people should perceive it. This helped me eliminate a lot of things in storage.
