Married 33 years but early on attended marriage enrichment classes and one of the suggested habits was for spouses to greet each other on return from work day. A deliberate focusing on your husband, even before he pays attention to the children. Face to face with eye contact. It’s good for your children to see that their parents are very important to each other, it actually builds children’s confidence. Great habit to develop.

I got the same advice at a marriage conference in my first year of marriage. We also kiss each morning and night. When we are mad, we still give a greeting and kiss. We look funny probably.

I was a stay at home home, and when my kids were little and I saw that my husband had pulled in the driveway I would announce ‘daddy’s home’ and it became a routine that they would rush the door and say ‘yay! Daddy’s home!’ And give him a hug. Sounds like such a silly thing but it made him feel appreciated, valued and loved. And it was a way the the kids could demonstrate that they appreciated him and all he did for us. Highly recommend. 😊 They are 31 and 26 and remember it to this day.

As a young mom, my hubby was in USAF. The children and I would meet him on the porch of our apartment. When it was cold, we’d sit on the steps inside and wait. They would get so excited. Such great memories.

Preparing, or beginning to prepare, supper in the morning sounds like a great idea? I will definitely try that, I need to be more on time with meals. - Reading to my children is my favorite thing to do as a mom (singing to them at bedtime was, actually, but they are too old for it now).

I like the idea of short term goals , I’m an empty nester grandma , I wrote projects down and cut them apart folded them and put them in a bag , my goal is to reach in and grab a paper whatever that project happens to be will be for that week . Some things I wrote are , deep clean a room , call or visit someone sick , invite some friends over for an evening (that one is hard for me ) sew , etc.

Oh my goodness, Megan, the dried magnolia garland deserves to stay up all winter! You worked so hard on it and it is gorgeous! When I take down my Christmas decorations, I leave up all my greenery with lights and my window candles because it just boosts your mood all winter long when it gets dark so early every night!

Thanks for sharing your goals for 2025. I don't have younger children anymore- my two youngest at home are 19 and 17,but I want to be more intentional with spending one on one time with each daughter and something fun that they enjoy. The connection we have with our little ones is important to them. Adolescence shouldn't be a stand-off with our children. They still need our support, encouragement, and attention as they navigate adulthood. Also,I want to start baking homemade bread this year. My daughter's love to cook,so hopefully we'll enjoy bread making together. 😊❤

I’m a little older than you… 41… and have an 18 year old, 15 year old and 5 year old. So not one of your “younger viewers” that you often refer to… but honestly I feel like you have your life so much more together than me and are so wise for your age! I could only dream of having a life like yours! I love seeing happy marriages where you appreciate and adore each other! I’m now a single mum and have never really experienced that in either of my marriages but it’s beautiful to see that it exists and that homemaking is valued in your community! ❤ Love to you and your family as well as Jayna from Australia x

Megan your ideas are all excellent, especially greeting Josh and reading to the children. Excellent. My mother always brushed her hair washed her face and touched up here lipstick on awaiting dads return from a work day. She was home with 7 children but she never missed greeting dad coming in the door. They are gone now for many years but that reminds me so much of how I grew up recognizing how special it was that she made that a point. Also, winter season is still with us, so as beautiful as your magnolia swag is, I would leave it up until the signs of spring begin to show. I think it is absolutely beautiful and it so warms the feeling of your front room. I absolutely love it. You could leave the lights on at night for ambiance or take them down but the garland/swag is absolutely beautiful! Great video! Love your priorities and many of those are what I use to this day at age 78. :-) I've been watching you since you were in the first early days of your channel. I've watched you grow and mature and watched all those babies come along and what precious children you and Josh have..........also with the most beautiful eyes....they are just all just absolutely precious! Blessings for a Happy New Year and your ideas for the new things you are pondering working into your days/life!

About reading: During summers especially, when life was much more relaxed, I read to my kids while they were eating lunch. These are now such happy memories for all of us, and it makes me very happy to see my now grown-up kids reading these same books to children they're caring for, or for their own families. Really great picture books (fresh from the library) are fun for listeners of all ages.

"A Warrior's Welcome". ooooof. This one is MAJORLY convicting to me. We've been married almost 17 years, and I'm typically in the middle of finishing up dinner when my husband comes home. I often feel that nudge (go greet him!) But talk myself out of it for no good reason - he has to come find me! I want to change that this year. ❤

Hi! Last night I binged some of your videos and I am so thankful that my husband showed me your page. I subscribed immediately! I just became a SAHM and I almost made it harder on myself than it needs to be. I finally have some time to myself after moving since 7:15 this morning. But the awesome thing is, I don't feel so bad for sitting down because I have been quite productive. In less than 24 hours, the difference is highly noticeable. I am feeling so proud of myself and motivated to keep going! Thank you so much for sharing your life with us, Megan!

Loved hearing about all the ideas you are taking into 2025. It definitely got me thinking about what things I can roll over into this new year. When my kids were little, we would spend time at the library every couple of weeks and I would let them pick out books they wanted to read at night before bedtime. So, each night we would all get ready for bed and then they would pick one book to read with everyone on their bed. I'm not a morning person and hate waking up to chores, so I tidy up the kitchen each night before bed and run the dishwasher. This makes me happy to see a clean kitchen in the morning and cooking breakfast is more enjoyable too. Can't wait to see all the fun videos you create this year!

I clean one thing every day. No schedule. If it's dirty I give it a quick clean. Always make sure kitchen is cleaned right after dinner. Waking up to a Clean kitchen just starts your day off better. Most nights my husband and I make tea and Clean the kitchen together, after dinner.

That's so funny. Before I got married and started getting housewifey videos on my KZbin feed, I didn't know people had 'cleaning schedules.' My mom always cleaned as she goes, and I assumed that's what everyone did. I've still never tried a schedule. I don't really like the idea much!

Just a stay at home wife no children yet, but still definitely need to do better at greeting my husband, most time I’m putting supper on the table when he walks in so love to start doing that more! But I do love to be able to be more intentional and organized so loved your video definitely gave me a lot of inspiration!!!

One of the best money-saving habits I've acquired: thrifting!! You won't believe how easily you can find the same items that are on amazon: except cheaper, more durable, unique, and impacting directly your local economy. I mostly shop online if I want a specific brand or style of item, but trust me on this, thrift shops have an amazing selection and you can really find hidden gems in there (even high end fashion pieces! It also feels like a treasure hunt lol.

I bought your planner last year and then after a short time, things fell apart with health issues and more. When things finally settled down in November, I was able to restart the planner from where I left off. I love it and I'm almost 70 years old! I homeschooled and always started our day with reading even into their teens. Having a set time helps.

Love your ideas Megan! When our kids were young, we had a pick up every night before bed. I did not like to get up to a messy house in the morning. Also with our 3 kids we had chore day on Saturday. I would write out our chores and put them in something to take turns drawing out until everyone had three. They could trade if they wanted to also. This made for a fast clean up day and then everyone could do as they pleased. As a working mom this made a big difference for me as well. Our kids are now happy productive parents too.

Wonderful ideas, Megan! Thanks so much for sharing them. I've taken notes! When my kids were smaller, I had them do a "10 minute tidy" with me before they went off for bath and bed time. I have 4 kids , so I had littles and teens at the same time. I'd have them work together. I'd set a timer, and we'd all go as fast as we could go. Then, each month, we would do a "get rid of 10 things." We all looked around the house to find 10 things that we could get rid of, and made it a game. Sometimes even if it was a piece of trash that someone missed throwing away, it all counted.

Years ago, a couple who are friends of mine, learned about "the Seven Second Kiss." Here's the "therapists' definition" of it: "It's not a kiss that leads to something more, it's just a kiss. Seven seconds is enough to get oxytocin flowing along with dopamine and serotonin, helping us feel good, feel that special bond and trust with each other, offering comfort and reducing stress." So, there ya go. Their kids were upper elementary and middle school (4 kids within 3 years--last pregnancy was twins), btw.

I really want to do a flurry; I love the name. I love waking to a clean kitchen but the only eve I do that consistently is fri nights because my husband has family over to workout Saturday mornings. my 2 little goals this year, or soon-ish, is to learn to make homemade tortillas and homemade pasta. I have been working hard the last 10 years to make us healthier and less toxic and now were gluten and dairy free so I love learning how to make food from scratch. I try to pick one new food thing at a time to master. this fall and winter was sourdough and discard recipes and last month was scones. its fun to make little goals with yourself. I also love to romanticize life. ive worked too hard at intentionally making a life I love to be disgruntled.. so I get the candy bar when I grocery shop and listen to podcasts on the drive to the store. find little ways to make even errands exciting

If you are replacing something that breaks, I don't really know if that would be an impulse buy, since you are replacing something you tend to use on a regular basis. I can understand it for other things though. It definitely is important to think through a purchase for a while. There is something my husband and I have been talking about getting for a year now and we talked about it the other day and think we'll get it in February or March to replace something we've had our whole 20 years of marriage that we use regularly too. It's time. Things like that are good to talk through and wait on. I read to my whole family after I am done eating my dinner/while everyone else is eating. My oldest is about to turn 18 and I still do it! It's so much fun! It becomes a habit. It is harder to do though when my son comes home from work at 8 PM some days though. You have a long time before worrying about such things though. Loved your list.

I do the 15 minute flurry but mines normally like 30 minutes lol then shirt sit down and rest before an early bed time. Only early cause I'm waking in the night with a baby. I'm like you megan I not a morning person and do most things on auto.

I saw the comment about running the dishwasher at night. Just wanted to share our scary experience last year. We had a portable dishwasher, I usually ran it at night. But one night when the kids had baths i forgot to run the dishwasher after their baths were done. So i ran it in the morning. I started hearing weird noisss, squeaking and a terrible smell. I ran to the kitchen, saw the dishwasher in flames so I unplugged it, ran and grabbed the kids, dogs, took them outside. Hubby grabbed our fire extinguisher and got the fire out but we had an awful mess to clean up with the extinguisher stuff and all the dishes were trash. So now we only run our new dishwasher when we're home and awake.

Your 15 minute flurry reminds me of a lesson I learned years ago and it came from the book of Genesis where it says, “and the evening and the morning were the next day”. In other words, the day starts the evening before. Before bedtime, I tidy up the house and see if I need to get anything ready for breakfast and work lunches and it’s one of the most helpful things I learned in managing our home. I am free to spend some time in God’s Word with a cup of tea before I have to do other things.

Prepping at breakfast is like you have a cook delivering meals. Even set the table pretty when I can.

We read to our kids every night at bed time from when they were very small to way past when they could read themselves - it's a lovely way to settle them down for the night, and research has shown that it helps enormously with their development (it's often cited as the best thing you can do with your children educationally so I'm actually a bit shocked that you didn't know the value of this as you were a teacher).

My goal is to be happy where I’m planted. My desire is to be a SAHM but that’s not this season for me, I want all the time I spend with my husband and children to be 100% intentional.

Hello Megan, I am a stay at home mom of a 14 month old little boy and have been so encouraged by your content! I love listening to Honey I'm Homemaker as I moved when I got married and am still making friends... but listening to you gals I feel like we're sitting together for coffee :-) I just have a question and was wondering what your thoughts are. I love your tips on doing household chores while the children are awake, but I am really struggling with implementing as my little guy wants me to pick him up so much still. I'm not sure how much he just needs to learn to be content at this age and how much he is still baby and I can cater to him if you know what I mean! I want to be loving but I'm not sure what the balance is and dont havemany others around me to add input! Any tips would be so appreciated as this is all new to me and I feel like I can hardly get anything done when he is awake! Blessings on you and your family! Laura
