Homemaking isn’t just about keeping a house in order. It’s about creating a home-a space where love, memories, and that deep feeling of belonging come together. Have you ever felt like your home is missing that deeper connection? Let’s talk about some practical ways you can bring a deep sense of history and belonging into your space. For me, one of the most important aspects of keeping a home involves keeping our heritage- some of our old ways of living, knowledge, and even our family heirlooms that are still used, in one way or another, every day. Some more practically and others as a reminder of where and who we came from…to keep us grounded, rooted if you will. Most of these heirlooms are nothing fancy, they don’t look like much and wouldn’t really mean much to anyone but me, because I am the keeper of their stories it’s my job to make sure they continue to mean something to those who come after me.

HEIRLOOM RECIPE:
Simple From Scratch Butter or Lard Homemade Pie Crust

ZUCCHINI PIE FILLING
-If you prefer softer "apples" in your pie you can cook zucchini in boiled water for approximately 2 minutes and allow to dry well before continuing.
6-8 c. Zucchini (peeled, seed removed and chopped)
3/4 c. Sugar
1/2 c. Brown Sugar
2 tsp. Cinnamon
3/4 c. Flour (To thicken the filling when baked because zucchini has more juices than apples.)
1/2 tsp. Salt
Bake in a 400-degree oven, covered with foil for approximately 25 minutes, reduce heat to 375-degrees, and continue baking without foil for another 35-40 minutes.

I haven’t had much time to watch much of anything lately. If the TV is on, it’s usually Bluey or Frozen 🙃. I grew up obsessed with Little House on The Prairie though…I have probably watched every episode a dozen or more times. And my favorite movie is probably Little Women…the 1994 version. (I still have the original VHS 🫣) The most recent show I’ve watched and liked was Tracker. 😊
