What about egg shells in vinegar, also known as Calphos: Calcium phosphate? Or the JADAM organic farming method? Like fermented plant juice, FPJ, or Fermented fruit juice, and Lactobacillus serum?

What doesnt work for you may work for my plants. We have different approach towards our plants. For Aroids, they live and thrive in forests and by giving them habitat as close as possible to their natural environment is beneficial. For example, in may garden, I dont throw away dried leaves. I just let them stay on the ground and decompose. Any peel of fruit we just throw away and let decompose. Plants are thriving. Same as egg shells, after Crush ung we just throw them away to the soil. These are all organic, meant to decompose and help those living plants. Dont say these are myths because before the invention of fertilizers, plants thrive because of these organic materials. These organic materials can help give nutrients to the plants but the ultimate thing is the root will find ways to balance. Let the roots find nutrients in the soil.

I’m sitting on my porch, looking at my hard, wet, clay. It grows weeds. I’m sure it’s going to be ok with my powdered egg shells. It’s that or the landfill or back in the water (via sewer). Great video! I just watched this. I have a ton of eggshells! 😂 Baked and pulverized! I’m spreading them around the yard. Brightest Blessings 🌟💫

I’ve had a vermicomposter for years but now I don’t have space for that, didn’t even know where to get worms , it made me sad so I compost straight into my plants pot : Everytime I make a smoothie, before I wash the blender, I blend the fruits peels and other organic vegetables peels with some water to reduce them into a powdered slurry to speed up their decomposition, then I pour in my Monstera planter outdoor on the balcony. I also throw in rest of soup milk yoghurt, residus of carrot juice / soy milk / oil infusion pressing. I spray with garden hose to spread the residus evenly into the soil. Must say : it’s 2 large 60 x30 x 30 cm planters that can handle to absorb a certain quantity of organic trash chopped into powder each week. But not too much at once or it will starts smelling funny or rot ! Best to bury them into the soil surface but I’m too lazy for that. Now I add trichoderma + enzymes composting blend made to speed up composting process. So it’s not a small pot, I would not do that in a small indoor pot. In small pots, I pour a lighter version with less organic matter or rice water. With hot tropical weather, everything decompose well and quite fast within 1-2 weeks. And guess what : the earthworms population has skyrocketed in the large planter. They crawl out after I water when it’s too wet and I can see there is a lot ! So I have made a vermicomposter straight in the pot without needing to find worms, from 1-2 red worms that were hiding in the soil of the plants I bought in shop. They are small thin red worms, not as big as the species used in vermicomposting, not the big ones that aerate the deeper layers of soil and so they may not have the same functions, maybe not the best species to eat compost fast. But I guess they have eaten the organic trash. Decomposition process is largely helped by “oc sen” Vietnamese white tiny micro snails, although they are usually listed as undesirables parasites to get rid of, because they can attack young leaves sprouts, but they are also listed as composting agents, producing Nitrogens in their poop after digestion and the worms eat that back. Eggshells are used in vermicomposting (and protection witchcraft ) so I had collected 2-3 kg eggshells over the years not knowing exactly what to do with such quantity. They are sold as fertilizers in Vietnam so I pour that into the pots. Crushed Eggshells don’t decompose fast for sure but they did disappear a little bit and they don’t repel the snails at all. The Monstera particularly liked the residus of green aromatic herbs leaves after pressing infused oil. So it works, we can use our bananas & vegetables peels straight into the pots and it will be absorbed by the plants after the fauna and bacteria decomposed them. We just have to make sure it does not rot, so blend it into powder, bury it, use trichoderma, find worms.

What is the tie-in with the worms and castings? Should I bake and pulverize the eggshells and add them to the worm bed, or would that still add too much calcium? it is best to throw the eggshells away? I would think that some powdered eggshells would be good for the worms' gizzards or whatever they have. I would also think that peat based potting soil is devoid of a lot of things, including calcium, but IDK. Also, I am told that citrus peels are not so good to add to worm beds, but I see lots of them in one of your pictures. Can you elaborate about both situations.
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 11 ай бұрын
HI there, eggshells take a lot of time to decompose. Crushing them can speed up the decomposition process in the compost pile but still takes time. Unless the eggshells decompose to release Calcium ions, it is does not add any value to the soil nutrient profile. Citrus peels can be added to the compost pile. Citrus peels are a valuable addition to compost because they contain essential nutrients and organic matter that can enrich the final compost. Composting works best when you have a balanced mix of green (nitrogen-rich) and brown (carbon-rich) materials. Citrus peels are considered green materials due to their nitrogen content. Ensure you have enough brown materials like dried leaves, straw, or cardboard to balance the compost. If the compost becomes too acidic, throw in some crushed eggshells or agricultural lime to neutralise the acidity.

Fertilizers can not be taken up by the plant unless they are water soluble. Egg shells alone are useless until they break down in the soil. However, if you blend egg shells, dry them in the oven, then soak the eggshell powder in vinegar for a week, you make Calcium acetate which is readily available for plants.

Some suggest leaving broken eggshells (after removing the protein film attached) in brewed white vinegar for about 4 days. This is supposed to provide dissolved calcium which is immediately available for the plant roots to absorb. The point of toxicity from calcium is worth noting. Would appreciate feedback, anyone who has tried this!

Eggshells generally take approx. 2 years or even more to decompose and release the Calcium ions in the soil so that its easily absorbable by the plant roots. Crushing the eggshells into powdered form and throwing them in the compost pile for decomposition will speed up the decomposition process by the microbes present in the compost. Throwing the eggshells directly in the soil will not help the plant or soil but it will only attract pests.

@Homemakr
@Homemakr 10 күн бұрын
Hi there, The best way to reduce or reuse the kitchen scraps is by composting them properly. The kitchen solid waste needs to be decomposed by the microbes so that the nutrients are bioavailable for the roots to absorb easily. Egg shells take a very long time to decompose. If not decomposed properly, they are of no use to the plants. To speed up the decomposition process, you can crush the egg shells before throwing them in your compost pile which will help the microbes to decompose them quickly.

No gardener throws eggshells whole into their plant, without crushing them or decomposing them. Nobody thinks ONLY calcium or potassium is a magic potion.
