Thank you very much indeed for your advice. Our baby Swiss Cheese Plants are flourishing due to your advice. Also, for your advice of what to do if it is too wet, etc. We cannot thank you enough. You covered possible problems, that are so valuable to us and many other people. If they died, we couldn't replace them as they are so expensive. My Mother-In-Law bought a plant for my 60th Birthday tomorrow, (6/9/2023). One for myself and One for her daughter. We are like Mother's! These Monstera Cheese Plants hopefully will grow into healthy, happy Plants? I will let you know as time goes by. You are a Blessing to both of us. Your knowledge is invaluable, also to a lot of other people from what I read in people's Feedback. Bless You. 🪴I have not got a photo of a Cheese Plant sorry. x

Both under-watering and overwatering, can lead to issues with Monstera plant leaves turning yellow. If the leaves feel dry and brittle, then they are likely dying due to underwatering. If the leaves are moist and almost seem to be rotting as they turn yellow, that is a strong indication of excess water.

I read that the splits on the leaves are to help wind travel through so a bit of movement can encourage them (a gentle shake). Made sense but could be wrong.
@powerranger3223
@powerranger3223 Жыл бұрын
The splits are to let light get to the lower part of the plant. You’ll notice that very little splits occur the lower they are. Higher ones will have more splits

Thats right. The splits helps in many ways. Such as wind travel, light, and rain water. Because these plants are tropical plants where it rains and moisture level is always high.

Hi there, If the leaves are developing properly then there could be many reasons. Firstly, check if the plant is watered enough. Secondly its receiving enough indirect bright light. Thirdly, there could be nutrient deficiency that could be causing leaves problems. Fertilize during spring and summer with complete liquid fertilizer once monthly.

Low humidity causes brown spots on a Monstera leaf because unlike other plant species, it takes in a lot of its water through the leaves. When there isn't enough moisture in the air around the plant it will dry out and turn brown. A leaf that has gone brown due to low humidity will also have a papery texture.

Thank you for this video. I don’t really have any of the problems mentioned, but I have an issue I’m not sure about. Why are my new growth leaves curly? Not drooping, not yellowing, curly. The stem is also a bit curly. Help🙏🏼
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Giselle, Thank you so much. Inspect your plant and soil thoroughly for any pest infestation. If not then maybe a nutrient deficiency. Curly leaves are generally caused due to extreme temperatures (hot/cold), arid conditions or too much humidity, and too bright light. Make sure all these factors are taken care of. Hopefully, your plant will recover soon.👍

In my experience, the new leaves uncurl from the stem of the previous leaf so that's probably why. My monstera adanosai does the same but they uncurl pretty quickly with a little helping hand. The deliciosa leaves are much fleshier so they take more effort to straighten. I saw a video on YT where a girl used cardstock junk mail, cut into strips, to make a sort of "brace" which she scotch-taped to the back side of the leaves with the strips holding it in correct position. One long strip down the middle and branching smaller strips out to hold certain striation segments which are also curled. I tried it and my plant looks so uniform and nice now. Hope that helps!

The plant has had a couple of incidents which may have made it depressed looking, A picture hanging above it fell off & onto it about six months ago, so my amy BEAUTIFUL leaves were badly damaged also the stems many breaking off,. @Homemakr
@Homemakr Жыл бұрын
Hi Marie, the leaves develop their fenestrations while they are curled and growing. Therefore, I cant make a time lapse of how leaves develop fenestrations. If you plant is small, it might not develop fenestrations till it grows bigger. If your plant is mature enough but still not developing fenestrations then that could be due to lack of sufficient lighting.

Hi Sally, Plant leaves have the tendency to reach out for light and that is when the leaves start facing towards the light. If the indoor plants are not rotated then all the leaves become one-sided and looks blank on the other. Maybe try changing the position of your plant according to light so then the leaves will change their position as well. ☺

Hi Tabitha, I am not actually sure about how old is your plant. if its only one leaf then don't worry much. But if all the leaves are affected then there could be some other reason. It is very common for a plant to droop or slow down in growth after repotting as the plants may go in Transplant shock due to the change in its soil conditions. May be the soil that you used has harsh chemicals or was infected. Rinse the soil once with hydrogen peroxide solution and see if it helps. For concentration details, check out my video on uses of hydrogen peroxide. This will also kill any harmful bacteria or pests in the soil and provide a boost of extra oxygen to roots. I would suggest to take few healthy cuttings of the plant and place it in water, just in case the plant dies, you will still have some propogated cuttings.

Low humidity causes brown spots on a Monstera leaf because unlike other plant species, it takes in a lot of its water through the leaves. When there isn't enough moisture in the air around the plant it will dry out and turn brown. A leaf that has gone brown due to low humidity will also have a papery texture. Pruning is good for your monstera so you can cut off the brown spots, and feel free to trim the leaves in the shape they would grow to remove the dead parts.

I would suggest to let your plant settle in the new environment first before giving the plant another shock by transplanting it straight away. Once the plant has adjusted to the new routine and new environment (light, water, air, ventilation, humidity etc) and starts showing some new growth, then you can repot it in a different pot. But still I would suggest you to repot when you see the roots coming out the drainage holes or the plant growth is stunted. What soil is good for monstera
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dhanashree, For monsteras, well draining soil is preferrable. You can make a potting mix using cococoir or cocopeat/ regular potting mix + Compost for nutrition + Perlite or coarse sand or pumice( whatever you have) for better drainage.

Hi there, When a new plant is brought home, give some plant enough time to adjust itself to the new environment and conditions. After few weeks of purchase, ypu can repot into a bigger pot. But as you already did it, it might have gone inot transplant shock which is why its leaves are curling. It could also be due to low humidity or too much bright light. The leaves tend to curl to avoid water loss. May be move it to an area where it recieves indirect light. And let it settle in the new pot.

My monsteras are thriving in direct sunlight. No sunburn. But maybe it depends on where you live?

I purchased my monstera approximately 3 weeks ago, and some of my leaves are turning yellow. What can I do
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 11 ай бұрын
Hi there, The most common cause of yellowing of leaves is Improper watering or nutrient deficiency. I have mentioned about this in detail in the video.

How Does the monstera look today?

I have a huge monstera that is constantly pushing out new growth year around but lately has been having the oldest leaves turning 'bleached' for color around the shape of the leaves. I do not over water as I check the soil daily. BUT, I have not repotted the plant in the three years I have had it. I am in a panick right now on what to do and what is wrong. PLEASE answer with suggestions. There is no logical reason for this. The plant has always had the same conditions it is happy in and it does not appear to be root bound. However, there is very little soil left because it has grown so large. WHAT DO I DO?

Hi Megan, I would suggest you to repot the plant. Sometimes , salt build up in the soil can also cause the leaf discolouration. Also, with time, soil tends to get compacted which can cause poor aeration to roots which can affect the leaves and plant. Repot your plant and see if the problem gets solved.

I want to repot my Monstera. Can anyone recommend a good soil and plant food that I can buy and not pay high garden centre prices?? I live in the U.K.

Hi There, to repot your monstera you can use a potting mix with peatmoss or cococoir, perlite and compost. There are many already prepared potting mix bags available in the shops. For fertilizing, you can buy any complete liquid fertilizer for indoor plants or seaweed solution. I am not from UK but you can easily find these things in any plant store.
