I just learned something today... I could have saved myself some $$$ if I would have seen this video before buying a new door last summer. Either way, great video!

Good video. Short, informative and to the point. One of the best DIY videos I seen. I am quite physically limited in my mobility these days. Do you happen to know if places like Home depot or Lowes or Menards provide "reasonably priced" install services for a new door moulding kit? Again, great job on this video. Now I know how to fix my 3 doors without replacing them.

Hi fran! thank you so much for the comments! the box stores don't have workers, they always sub it out to actual tradesman which means you pay 30 percent more...the best way i would say is to stop and talk to a handyman during your day when you see one out working..or call a simple add from the phone book ( if people still do that) find a good one and keep him for jobs like these..we always love the return customers.

Great video. What if you have the opposite problem? Instead of the door not fitting, a gap has formed and it no longer catches (it stays closed, but you can no longer lock it). 🤔
@homemend5 жыл бұрын
Hi ann marie! Easy one! If there is a wide gap you may need to move that side of the frame in a little. Pull it off and set it over enough to engage the slide bolt. you got this! i hope this helps and if it doesn't, i can think of something else..lol thanks so much for commenting!

Great presentation. I notice the sun coming around the house tells me it took you pretty much the day to do this job. Right?
@homemend5 жыл бұрын
hey joker...i dont think so...remove storm, replace brick mould, paint and reinstall? from start to finish maybe 2 hours but i probably had other items to do at this house while the paint dried..good eye!

Can I just drive a long slender screw into the brick mold to hold it together until I can get it fixed?
@homemend13 күн бұрын
Hey oxygen. You certainly can secure it that way great idea.

If you’re using wood brick mold, what size nail would you use? Or could I use grk screws? I have access to 2” and 3” #8 grk finishing screws. Thank you and helpful video. I’m going to try this here in the next couple of days.

hey grk! finish screws would work...i like to use finish nails or a nailer...you got this!

Hi Dustin. Great video! My brick mould around the top is rotted because my storm door was installed by someone who didn't know what they were doing. I know I don't need a new storm door but I do need that molding to be replaced. What type of contractor would I contact to have that work done?
@homemend5 жыл бұрын
thank you Khree! a general handyman or carpenter can do this for you...and you may want to use vinyl...its comparable in cost and will never rot again!

I had a guy replace my brick molding and he used a different size molding. Now the storm door won't fit and it's at an odd size 35 1/5 ×80. I would say it's about an eighth off from allowing the door to fit again. I know it's less than 1/16. Is there a easy fix so I can use the old door?
@homemend3 жыл бұрын
Hey L. The easy fix would be to move the moulding. But make sure it’s not just the frame. The frames can be slightly adjusted too. You got this!
@pureelegance34 жыл бұрын
I don’t have enough clearance for my storm door install. Is this what I would buy to build the frame out? What is it called? I. We’d about two inches out.
@homemend4 жыл бұрын
hey puree! is it the top bottom or sides? a photo/video would be helpful..you can find me on messenger and send a pic if you would like and i can help with a solution..)

Great vid.. I have different issue, any help would be much apprech.... Ordered new storm door for front but was waiting on contractor (now fired) to install. Gave 36" for order based on measurements from old contractor; storm door frame is about an 1.5" too wide???? What's best way to make it work? Returning is not really an option now, plus I don't have access to the pick up the contractor used to pick it up with me. New contractor says he'll try to retrofit by cutting back some on each side. Is that best way? Also, what type of trim on outside of door to cover everything after install? Can I use same molding as interior, if I paint with exterior paint?? Thanks so much for any answers, I tried to project manage this but things are getting out of my control and never been down this road before.
@homemend3 жыл бұрын
Hey jq. I would change the outside trim to make the storm door fit. You can trim it out with 1 by ( whatever width works for you) you got this!

My door looks bent , the top of the door has a huge space, do you think the hinges are bent from my girl slamming it or the molding. Keep in my I replaced the piston thing when I met her so she couldn’t slam it but it’s always been messed up lol.
@homemend4 жыл бұрын
hey scott...as long as the door is shutting nice in the frame and touching the frame all the way down its probably not bent...you may try moving the top frame down to meet the door if possible or lifting the whole door up? i hope this helps..

My storm door has a gap at the top. It closes shut most of the time. However a lot of air is getting through that Gap. Is this the same solution for a gap at the top of the storm door?
@homemend4 жыл бұрын
hey top....a couple things..you can pull down the top section of frame to meet the door, or move the brickmould ( or outer trim) down a bit to have everything meet up nice..i hope this helps!
