Clipping feathers doesn't hurt the bird but can cause stress because they can't do what their used to doing. Declawing is worse because it hurts the cat and is completely removing the nail. If it were to be the same it would be like completely cutting the birds winged and not the feathers.

The likelihood of a bird escaping and living is close to 0. They will die within the first week unless theu find someone to feed them or if they get caught. They dont have any survival skills as they have never ha the need to forage for food. Clip their wings. Unless you have an area where they can fly freely without escaping or if you have it trained where they will come to you on cammand, dont risk it and clip. They clip flight feather ....no it is no where near declawing a cat.

when you clip their wings, you're cutting the under feathers that are used for momentum to fly. It doesn't hurt the birds. I had to clip my chickens' wings cause they're free range and they kept flying the fence into the forest.

I was gonna say the same thing. Chickens can fly short distances, we had some before and had to clip their wings since we let them roam our old back yard which was half an acre and didn’t want them flying over the fence into the woods where bobcats and other wild animals lived and where the chickens would certainly die if they got out

never clip, never clip! Birds respiratory systems RELY on flying, teach your bird to recall. Get a harness, FLY your bird in doors. They have air sacs, their lungs don't inflate and deflate, they need to be airborne to be healthy. Clipped birds have way more behavior issues because of their instinct, fight or flight. Flying is a very import part of their lives, if you want something to NOT fly... get a dog. TRAIN your animal. Birds are NOT domesticated. If you don't believe me, look up ParrotWizard or BirdTricks on youtube. Stop. Clipping. Birds....

Birds have feathers called flight feathers and they trim just those feathers, the bird can still glide also the feathers grow back often.

These days people's birds freeroam the house by having big perches around. I think they still lock them in the cage at night though. Mine flew away when I was a kid ☹ me and my little sisters followed it to a giant tree in the next street but it never came out, we lost it as the foliage was so thick.

Speaking as a bird master, most bird owners know when their bird has to shit. Unless they dont give a fuck and then let em shit on em. And Birds do know who’s cool and who’s not. And wing clipping is a preference and is like a haircut. Its not necessarily bad if the birds are always out and have a thing to play on or is always with you.

Declawing cats has a big misconception that cats absolutely need their claws to climb etc. We declaw the front paws and they can still climb 8ft+ brick walls and trees, they catch birds, rabbits, mice, snakes even. I would love for them to be just indoor kitties but they get pissy if they can't go out during the day to explore a little. Its not as invasive as it used to be, its a quick painless surgery, they don't even use bandages on their paws anymore and they don't have to stay over night anymore either and they go home within a couple hours. My 2 cats that had it done a few years ago, have white paws and there wasn't even blood on them and when I touched their paws they didn't react, and walked normal after. My vet is so good, careful and loving with our animals does the procedure very well...I can't say that for every vet though as I've heard horror stories which I've never experienced. Many people say thats its inhumane to do it because its cosmetic, for us its not, cats have very quick mood changes and will go from wanting to be held to hitting you in the face real quick. I would have lost both my eyes and be covered in scars by now if they still had their claws. Plus you can get severe infections and illnesses from cat scratches. Its not like taking their fingers at all...they don't have fingers...the human comparison would be removing your nails. In the wild they need them for catching prey or defending themselves but my cats do fine without their front claws.

Ostriches are way too fucking big. Males stand 6.9 - 9.2 ft. (Adult) and females are 5.6 - 6.6 ft. (Adult). If they COULD fly, I'd be more fearful of getting gutted by them. Clipping wings is like clipping nails. It doesn’t hurt unless someone doesn’t know what they are clipping. Some feather have veins so clipping the wrong one could be life threatening.

Also you have to consider these birds are domesticated so if they were to get loose, they will pretty much die on there own. Clipping wings does not restrict the bird from flying but more to handicap there flight. I can see why people are against it. But having a bird as a pet and not clipping its feather could be dangerous too. They could fly on the stove or into a ceiling fan if they have full flight.

@@MichaelJin74 teach your bird how to fly down from trees, teach them to recall, they are NOT domesticated. Birds are still very much wild. Dogs and cats are domesticated successfully. Parrots are NOT. They view us as their PEERS. Not owners. You have to trick train, step up is a TRICK. More birds with clipped wings BITE because they aren't able to get away. Learn to read your birds body language, train the bird. Birds need to fly for their health, they don't have lungs that expand like us.
