I have no problem with my reproductive system, I may want kids, and want to be in a relationship. But if someone signs off in having this happen then let them do it. Where is here? The US? I get that most people are competent to make permanent life-altering decisions as a minor. But I also understand that some cannot. It makes sense for them to send so and so to a therapist to get confirmation that they want to get work done. It's probably just an extra precaution so the doctor doesn't have to shoulder so much unnecessary and excess responsibility. If another professional says "yes, this person does, in fact, want work done" the doctor then should have no complaint or refer them to another doctor who is more willing to do the work. At least that's how I look at the bigger picture. My overall opinion on the article though, HER BODY HER CHOICE. She's not a minor, she's in her 20s. She can make choices. Tubal Ligation, being a surgical procedure, has inherent complications associated with it. As well, statistically, many women who undergo this procedure experience regret for doing so. Given that the patient in this case is very young, having the procedure early provides plenty of time afterwards for her to change her mind and experience that regret. Luckily, the procedure is reversible, however, seeing as the reversal procedure is surgical as well, it will have a new selection of complications. This is essentially creating the potential for complications 200% more than if she did not have the procedure. I don't know the exact statistics for her age group, but I imagine patients who have tubal ligation in the younger age range experience regret more often than the older age groups. This is why the doctors may respond with initial resistance to younger patients for this procedure whereas for a 40 year old patient, they would not. The ultimate correct decision to make if she remains adamant about not wanting kids is of course, to have the tubal ligation done. However, this isn't until after going through the initial resistance that doctors may be comfortable. A lot of medicine is all about minimizing risk. Rule #1: Do no harm. TLDR; its a process

I remember watching The Blue Lagoon with my aunt. They're not biologically related in any way Tiff. The boys if my memory is correct was just adopted by the mother and being raised as her own. But you know we from a fashion was he biologically related to the girl. Even I thought that they're in the movie I kept saying what the fuck the whole time and my aunt kept confirming for me no no no no, they're not related that would be fucked up if they were making this movie if they were supposed to be related. But then again, Flowers in the Attic is a thing But yeah, the boy wasn't the lady set herself over and we biologically connected. She pretty much as adopted him from like I think I'll friend or somebody. I do remember the full case the story but I remember being told you or not brother sister or biologically related at all because thatwas the first thing that I kept making up about that movie

You're talking about The Blue Lagoon 2. In the original one they were cousins and were the boy who you are referring to biological parents.

having a baby is definitely instinctual this is why animals go hundreds of miles looking for a mate. The whole reason animals don't go extinct is because there is an instinct to procreate it is the whole point of life., Extending your bloodline. Humans are animals too. Other than that, she can do whatever the fuck she wants.

uh I definitely would say that I have a natural instinct to be a mom. Like if someone doesn’t want kids, I wouldn’t even date them. But this girl made such a good decision when it came to tying her tubes. It’s so much better than aborting the baby or not wanting to raise it but keeping it

Also yeah society plays a big role determining medical stuff, I couldn't get a transvaginal exam because they asked if I was a virgin and I said yeah. Even though my doctor said that didn't matter.

I don’t necessarily think doctors were dismissing her. Before surgery most doctors recommend alternative solutions. If your knee hurts they recommend medicine and therapy before surgery

There is some kind of stigma around women not wanting to have children or become mothers, even in so-called "first-world countries." The way the doctors recommended she see a psychologist instead insinuates they think she is mentally ill because she doesn't want to have children makes no sense and is just rude especially when the hospital and the surgeons make money off surgeries. If she was in her 30s or older, they likely would have done the procedure without question or they would ask her if she already has children or not; some countries/states require you to be a certain age or to already have kids to make that decision

Tiff, this movie was during the Victorian era. And Emmeline and Richard Lestrange are cousins. After Paddy dies, (two &a half years later) they forge their way. During the Victorian period it was common (not frowned upon) for cousins to marry each other. They were eventually found by their grandfather. The books were written in 1908 and 1925. There are two movies as well.

I love how they are talking about how it’s a big deal in Argentina but it’s just as common for doctors to deny tubal ligation to women under 35 or to those who don’t already have kids, or are unmarried. Some doctors go as far to ask “what if your husband wants more children?” Or “I need your husbands permission to perform it”

It’s hard to find a doctor willing to tie your tubes at that age. My ob lied to my face and told me I wasn’t allowed to get my tubes tied until I was 30. Which of course is not true cause there is no age limit to getting your tubes tied, it’s just the doctors personal opinion coming into play.
@ChibiChick254 жыл бұрын
I legit thought for the longest time that the only way a woman could have her tubes tied was right after child birth because that was the only instance I ever heard of women getting their tubes tied. And then a few years ago after reading or watching something, I realized that getting your tubes tied is just like any elective surgery and there is no legit prerequisite to get it done. Its just doctors being trifling af and not letting women live their lives.

In Blue Lagoon, they weren't actually related. 1 couple had a child & someone else on the boat had a child too. Then something happens so that the boat has to be evacuated (it's been too long, I don't remember why). The extra child gets put on the same lifeboat with the couple & their baby. After they are stranded on the island, they start raising both together, while still constantly hoping for rescue. They do have a few books & other amenities (a chest of belongings washes up on the island too) & both kids are taught to read, basic math, etc & the mom does talk to the girl a tiny bit about becoming a mom one day, but she doesn't get told what sex is or that that can lead to pregnancy. She doesn't even get told about how breastfeeding is how to feed a newborn.... Over the years, one parent dies, then the other dies. By then the kids are young teens & have learned to be self sufficient & carry on the way to signal a ship if they see one, but it doesn't happen until after they have a kid themselves. Then all the events go wrong that lead to Blue Lagoon 2....

Similar thing happened to my friends mom. She had breast cancer which she beat, but the medication she was taking afterwards had side affects that could develop into ovarian cancer, so she decided to just have her ovaries removed so she wouldn’t have to worry about that. But her doctor was giving her all this crap about “what if you want to have kids in the future?!” Even though she already had two kids in their 20s and she was going through menopause. Some doctors are just really weird about that stuff.

Bruh I was thinking the same thing when she brought up Blue Lagoon, like wtf that’s a movie how are you gonna use that for your argument or as your source lol. I don’t doubt that there’s cases where girls don’t know what getting pregnant is but you have to be sheltered from the rest of the world pretty bad. I’m pretty sure everyone’s seen pregnant women since they were little kids. Also Blue Lagoon is a good movie I saw it as a kid.
