Ted , Emerson Fan Company LOL. Ralph, Emerson Electric is a Fortune 500 company based out of St Louis ,Missouri. It's been around for 130 years and one of the top engineering manufacturers in the country. It owns Brands like Copeland, White-Rodgers, Fisher regulators, Fisher valves and instruments, Controlled Technologies and now I'm going to stop because it would take me a half an hour to list them all. But sorry no Emerson Fan company owned by them. PS, Sensi Wi-Fi thermostat manufactured by Emerson Electric or White-Rodgers, is a very good Wi-Fi thermostat as long as it is wired correctly. But if the same idiot wires a hundred thermostats wrong and a hundred thermostats burn out, you may want to blame the installer,not the manufacturer.But if indeed you feel something is wrong in the manufacturing of the thermostat, the engineering department at White-Rodgers ( Emerson Electric) is quite receptive to any concerns you might have, all you have to do is call.

We had a high-level (SEER 19) Lennox unit installed, including the iComfort thermostat. It makes me a little nervous, since it looks like a tablet, and we know how long those last. But it is still working (4 years now) and we really like the features. The only complaint we have is that the company said it was all hooked up to the internet and they would probably know before we did when we had any problems, but so far, I've had to call them and ask them to look at their information before they come out, because apparently no one monitors it. (Again, we really like the unit and the thermostat.)

Trane is still selling the ameristar units. At least what they still have in stock. I just bought one for a customer that already had a 3 ton and wanted a 1.5 that matched. I have put a few in myself. But the ones I put in had decks on the second floor above them. So the inside of the coil still looks good. I personally am not selling them and I don’t think I’m going to use there new lineup of run tru units. Haven’t had one callback on any trane units other than regular service time. Can’t even count the Goodman’s that I’m always going to fix and repair. But a lot of it’s due to a poor install job.

Here I have 6 programmable thermostats the LUX 9000. One is used in my house. Four are used on my business. One was bought as a spare and never but in service yet. I purposely bought all the same model since easy to program them. The one that is used the most does have a couple buttons where the letters are worn but still readable. I add tape to the two AA batteries and mark the date when new batteries are installed. The batteries usually last 3 to 6 years. All the ones I bought are made in China and have date codes like 9807C etc. Meaning built 7 week of 1998. There was another brand I owned for awhile in 1998 but I hated the horrible curse word making clunky programming. !!!!! Thus I bought the LUX and used it for several months to see how they work then bought 5 more. One unit that is rarely used anymore had its AA batteries corrode and I had to remove the crud on the battery contacts. Who knows if the newer versions will last 22 years with zero failures. The plastic with time changes color when near light.

I have an Emerson Sensi in my vacation home. It allows me to control it and to monitor it from 600 miles away. It has continued to work for 3 years but has issues. It cycles off/on too quickly. When companies buy a brand they only are interested in the name and maybe some R&D but really focused on the brand name. Just like these brands: Milwaukee, AEG, Ryobi, Homelite, Empire, Stiletto, Hoover US, Hart, Oreck, Vax, and Dirt Devil, absolutely zero American. They don't buy factories, people, inventory, they already got all that, they also have good and improving designers and engineers, manufacturing and assembly is subbed out to various entities around the world. Currently the US leads in Quality but the China 2025 policy is supposed to address that. Remember the Japanese used to make junk, used to.

Interesting how folks will allow junk to accumulate in and around their condenser units. Maybe that fan blade needs adjusted upward if there is any room, to sling the ice sheets into the shroud. Emerson has been around for decades. They make (or did) electric motors for all sorts of equipment including HVAC. They also make parts that are rebranded by other familiar name brand products. I don't particularly like battery based thermostats unless that is the only option the HVAC system provides. Nothing else will work if the power goes out and the thermostat does.

That cheap thermostats. Ugh. Well, I like to automate stuff, lights, switched plugs, sensors, and all of the good stuff. But... only when I can control it locally. For me, no Cloud-connected Siri/Google/Alexa. No service discontinuation 3.5 years after purchase. And also: old-fashioned non-automated door locks and HVAC, because I need to be able to depend on those at all times. So, no cheap unreliable not-secure cheap chinese junk. No hacker will unlock my doors by a mere push on a button.
@hgbugalou4 жыл бұрын
I opted to automate my door locks just due to the fact you can easily just kick a residential door in or break a window. The common criminal isn't going to be hacking or exploiting anything. I hear you on the cloud stuff though. I use zwave or zigbee for all my home automation since it's only accessible within the house and then block the home automation hub from the internet with my router. Kurt Zimmerman Love my Ecobee 4. Problem free, saves energy. Gives me useful reports. Can control with Siri like my other smart devices. For example my smart light switches in my garage. My smart garage door opener. Using Apples Home app, linking the garage lights to the opener. So when the door starts to open, the garage lights come on. When it starts to close, the lights turn off. It works even if you don’t use Siri, where I can say into way watch, “Open Garage” and it starts to open and the lights turn on. But it also works if you just hit the button on the wall or use the normal remote in your car. My 72 year old dad who lives at my house loves this as he can see much better at night when he comes home. Because the garage is the main way we come and go from my house. It’s convenient fir him to just tell Siri what temp he wants and it’ll go to that. He doesn’t have to go to the thermostat to adjust. A smart Home makes things nicer/better. You don’t know until you have it. I go with Smart Switch’s over bulbs because it works with the lights you already have and the switch works like a normal switch. So turn lights on or off the normal way or voice control. My lawn sprinklers are also smart and can be controlled by Siri. It’s linked to my own weather station so it can water as needed and not water when it’s going to rain and how much it rained to know the next time it needs to be watered. The watering schedule changes as needed. This saves me water. I don’t think my lawn was watered once in December. Ecobee has a good reputation.

I would take a Nest over that any day. I installed my Nest Series 2 and it’s worked perfectly ever since.

With some real old customers and less savvy software ones the old dumb honeywell's round are easier for them. I actually had a honeywell round thermostat in parallel with my programmable lux on one ac unit in my business just for cooling. My one old employee saw the programmable unit as some star trek Rubic cube puzzle. The easy up down override buttons might as well been a zillion knobs. Instead of just pushing the up down buttons the employee would mess with the programming and get it all screwed up. They would have the thermostat removed sometimes. Thus for awhile I had a honeywell round analog dial thermostat In parallel. An old man who lived across the street had his wazoo programmable thermostat replaced with a dumb honeywell round years ago too. His relatives replaced his old honeywell round on a visit and it drove him batty. Thus I reinstalled the old thermostat to make it easier for him

Emerson thermostats are garbage. I was GIVEN a WiFi one and a regular programmable by my local wholesaler because nobody buys them, the WiFi one is jenky as hell to setup. Ameristar units seem solid for the money and really small. I prefer Ducane (Lennox Industries) for entry level units and they're cheaper.

Great units, do them for my side jobs, never a single repair call in 10 years

We've been using Ameristar for the past 4 years in our renovation projects. No issues. (Was told it was a "low end" trane, interchangeable parts, etc). We now use "Run True" by trane. No issues so far.... Btw, those coils look like Christmas tree tinsel in the new run true also...

People grifting homeowners out of thousands of dollars for simple repairs have done this. As a home owner it’s my right to do whatever I want to my home, and I accept total risk if something goes wrong, and will even accept the stupid tax if I have to pay someone to fix it.
