Just wanted to issue a clarification. Hand Off uses Bluetooth Proximity. And works with any recent iPhone running iOS 13.2 and later. It also works with the HomePod. The U1-related features are rolling out in a winter update. They include being able to "experience the feeling of your iPhone and HomePod mini connecting virtually as the sound transfers." And "personalize listening suggestions that will appear automatically on your iPhone when you hold it next to your HomePod mini."

HandOff doesn’t require the U1 only, it’s working on my 8 plus

Great job with this video. IMO, the blue, yellow and orange colors are so much better. Do you plan on maybe updating this video to review those colors as well? The mini is for anybody in the Apple ecosystem and who might prefer a minimalist smart assistant and not something bulky that can be seen from far away

Handoff works without a U1 chip on the mini and the large HomePod. The U1 will add handoff features that will be enabled later this year. These features will only work on the mini.

If Apple could turn the clock back and brought the mini out first then followed by the larger HomePod they would of had more success with the larger HomePod - should have gone small to start with to give people a feel for the sound.
