In Book 15, Zeus awakens from his slumber and realizes Hera's deception. Furious, he commands her to cease her interference and asserts that the Trojans will continue their assault until Achilles returns to battle. He sends Apollo to revive Hector, who had been wounded, and to aid the Trojan forces.
With Apollo’s divine assistance, Hector returns to the battlefield with renewed strength, leading a devastating attack against the Greeks. The Trojans push the Achaeans back toward their ships, breaking through their defenses once more. Despite fierce resistance from warriors like Ajax, the Greeks struggle to hold their ground. As the battle intensifies, the Trojan forces reach the very edge of the Greek fleet, threatening to set the ships ablaze.
The Iliad is one of the oldest and most celebrated works of Western literature, attributed to the ancient Greek poet Homer. Composed around the 8th century BCE, this epic poem is set during the final year of the Trojan War, a legendary conflict between the Greeks (Achaeans) and Trojans over the abduction of Helen. Rich in poetic imagery and timeless themes, The Iliad explores the wrath of Achilles, the futility of war, and the pursuit of honor and glory amidst the horrors of battle. This foundational text delves into human emotions, the influence of the gods, and the struggles of mortals against fate, making it a cornerstone of classical literature and a timeless exploration of human nature.
