Great video - I would add that unless the full bottom of the tub is sitting flush on the floor, it would need to be installed seated in a bed of mortar. This method would pretty much guarantee no cracking. Unfortunately, I cut corners installing my acrylic tub and it started cracking a lot after a few years

I always put a ledger board along the inside wall to support the inside edge of the tub. A tub full of water and an adult will sag some if the inside edge is not supported from underneath. It is especially noticeable when you use tile and grout for your tub surround.

@chrisgraham29044 жыл бұрын
If your from Texas, Jeff isn't operating from a different part of the country...he's in Ottawa, Canada. Yes...this is an installation over joists which could be a second floor or a first floor over a basement or crawlspace. Canadian building code doesn't require an access panel or shut-off valves for a tub and shower installation, but it's always recommended if they can be provided. The mortar bed provides stability, especially preventing any flex from acrylic tubs and it aids to eliminate that hollow sound when showering.

I've been remodeling bathrooms for 15 yrs, you got most of it right. You didn't use a mortar bed on that acrylic tub. You should have installed the framing support for doors after the tub was in, your viewers definitely need to know that part. You conveniently left out footage of actually lifting and setting the tub. You can use an oscillating tool or angle grinder to radius the corners of the skirt to ease installation, an extra inch goes a mile and it will protect the corners. Oh and no you will never actually see the corners of any tub skirt after finish work is completed. You also failed to point out that you had to remove sheetrock and outside corner bead to set it. What if your viewers are not working near an outside corner? You could have raised the subfloor and overlapped the tile, rather than cut the tile floor back. We never got the chance to see a level set on the tub rails. Does the subfloor need to be patched back in to avoid one of the feet being left unsupported or if on a crawl space sealed to prevent pests and cold air from entering? How do you leak test the slip joint drain assembly? Guess I should stop there because people are going to call me an asshole, but I've done this thousands of times and made alot of mistakes along the way.

@chrisgraham29044 жыл бұрын
You want the rim or tile flange of the tub to be level to aid a clean and level tile install. Also make sure the front apron sits level on the floor. Finally, most manufacturers design the tub base with a slight slope to the drain so that all the water drains and doesn't leave a puddle. If a cup of water, or a golf ball rolls to the drain, your good.
