Homes sprouting up around farms

A new trend is growing around the country: call it the "agrihood," in which suburban homes are built next to working farms. More than 200 homeowners in an Atlanta suburb are living adjacent to a 25-acre organic farm, making the journey from farm to table very short indeed. Mark Strassmann paid a visit to Serenbe.

This is a wonderful concept that can and will work for more than just a certain group of people. Afterall, many small rural towns already operate their communities in a similar way, with a farmers' market and home within maybe not yrds but within their neighborhood and town. What a great move away from social golf and tennis clubs for those who love the country and a healthier lifestyle for their families.

This isn’t any different from where I come from. Buying or trading fresh vegetables and fresh eggs from your neighbors. It wasn’t by any means 700 thousand dollar homes. It was just small town life. I hope this catches on and becomes affordable for many different class levels. Not just the rich or the really poor from small towns. For everyone. Have a great day.

I don't know about that. I think about Detroit, for example, and many vacant lots in between very low income housing. I think it would be a hit if someone could pull it off.

Detroit is full of urban and community gardens! Just do a little Youtubing and you will find all kinds of videos.

+ime akpan It works in poorer areas too. It works better for the poor IMO because they actually grow and pick what they eat. They're called community farms and there's one a few miles from my house.

fine. I will be the bad guy. THIS IS HOW PEOPLE USE TO LIVE before the industrial revolution. this is not new. This is a common neighborhood in Asia, Africa and many parts of the world. A large community farm, a small personal farm and no highrise condos. there I said
