A lot of post WW2 homes in Florida have "orangeburg" sewer pipes, made of wood fiber and creosote. Those are a real joy. The major problem with cast iron sewage pipes could occur under the concrete slab of a house. You don't want to trench those beautiful 1962 terrazzo floors. Have seen that numerous times. Buying in the Tampa Bay area? Buy high is my suggestion, high land away from the water. Look for something at least 25 feet above sea level. Elevations of over 45 feet are found in St. Petersburg and one area in Clearwater is nearly 110 feet. IF people were smart, they would look in St. Petersburg in Allendale, large lots, high elevation and houses that should be knocked down and replaced. A lot of uninspired 1960's era cracker boxes frequently with a second floor added over the garage. Great oak trees, brick streets in some cases. Stay away from Shore Acres at all costs.
