Thank You. For someone with a moderate amount of DIY knowledge, but never having replaced a dishwasher before, your video was perfect. No overly wordy explanations or repeating the same asinine warnings about making sure you remember to trip the breaker or turn off the water supply or you could end up with a mess. Sigh… those videos drive me crazy. To the point, well spoken, clear video, no multiple reminders about common sense things like “ don’t forget to make sure you triple check that your screws are snugged up tight to prevent any problems in the future. “. And no novel length speeches like the one that I’m giving in this comment. Liked, subbed, and notifications on, just because I think if you post something, I might learn something and I didn’t have to devote an hour to something you could concisely explain to me in five minutes. So thank You! I’m a fan!

1 small tip before you reconnect the old water line. Flush it. Just turn the valve on slightly for a few seconds and put something under to catch the water. This just makes sure nothing nasty gets in the new washer line. If you’re using a new line no need! But great video!

Few things to add: Unplug the dishwasher if you can or check for power Check for leaks before you slide it back in Screw the feet down on the existing dishwasher before sliding it out - gives you a lot more room to work with. If you're replacing cords you can disconnect them and not be worried about damaging them while pulling out.

Great video! Thank you! I hope this helps someone. I was thinking the hardest part of this for me would be laying the dishwasher on its back and then picking it back up again. But I figured out that I can put two chairs facing each other and lay the dishwasher back on those. I hope the weight distribution will allow for that. Doing it that way will also keep me from having to get down on the floor and pick myself back up. I'm 65 and have arthritis, so I don't like having to do that.

I’m just installing an older, used Hobart D/W in my tiny house. After locating the wires, I’ve decided to install a plug-in cord to the dedicated 20 a receptacle behind the d/w. Also, since the used d/w didn’t come with any hoses, I’m putting in a new water supply hose and a new drain hose. The issues I have are matching sizes of the connection points. I believe that the fill hose is 3/8” with a 1/2” female connector. The drain hose will fit the existing clamp connection but the other end is larger than the sink trap tailpiece. So I’m trying to figure how to remedy that. I won’t have a garbage disposal, but will install and air gap under the sink.
@ColtonCrumpDIY Жыл бұрын
Have you checked your local home hardware store to see if they have an adapter? Or Amazon even. Just the make sure you get some clamps or pvc cleaner/glue. Did you also make sure your D/W is on a Gfci line? By code they need to be.

1:08 or you may have a switch on you kitchen wall to turn off power to the dishwasher. This was very helpful but i had other hurdles when I did mine yesterday. The water line was a corroded copper tube going to L joint on DW. I couldn't tell which to losen because of all the corrosion. So I undid from under sink instead. But then knob was not all the way off and I got water under sink. then after I hooked up DW to water under sink the knob joint started leaking so I had to tighten that , i may have to replace that. Then my drain hose clamp i had on old one was too big so now i have to go to store to get another clamp.

Great video! Is this method safe for apartment buildings as well?
@ColtonCrumpDIY10 ай бұрын
Hey Jay! So I personally wouldn't mess with anything in apartment buildings because those are often owned by someone or a company. The maintenance team/ person should be the one to fix it and I would highly recommend working through the landlord before any type of home improvement project like this is started. Now if you own an apartment within a building, I would triple check that you are allowed to make these changes without any backlash. If all of that has been done, then often times yes, these same steps would apply, it would be just a question of your breaker box location to ensure you don't get electrocuted and you have access to shut your water valves

Do you recommend PTFE on the fresh water connection?
@ColtonCrumpDIY2 жыл бұрын
It's really up to you. My general rule of thumb is if I'm connecting something that is metal on metal, being connected to a metal pipe or there is for sure a ton of pressure to that line, then yeah. One could argue that all water lines have high pressure, but there are still some lines that have more pressure than others.

Im planning to buy a new dishwasher. My apartment has an old GE potscrubber 600, which is pretty old. Do all dishwasher have the same measurement or they all different?
@ColtonCrumpDIY2 жыл бұрын
They aren't always the same. I'd measure out your space and see what space you're able to play with.

Makes sense that you don't need a wire "clamp" for the appliance wires. They will move with the appliance when it moves, whereas the wires from your house could have the insulation cut when you move you move the dish washer.

Seems easy. What if you don't want to install a new washer right now? What can you use to close or seal the water hose until you're ready for a new washer?
@ColtonCrumpDIY Жыл бұрын
Definitely not a difficult job to do. If you already have a dish washer there and don't want to install a new one, I'd just leave the old dishwasher. Use that as your seal. If the space is empty, just make sure the water valve is turned to the off position for the dishwasher and then for the disposal hook up, there are plugs you can get to close that off. It's just 3/4" so get a rubber 3/4" plug. Something like this amzn.to/3hWaSBa

@@ColtonCrumpDIY The old dish washer stopped working ten years ago. When I turn the dial to start a cycle, it just buzzes. No water enters the unit. I wanted to remove it so I could use the extra space, but if you recommend using it as my seal, I'll leave it alone until I'm ready to purchase a new washer. I appreciate your expertise.
@ColtonCrumpDIY Жыл бұрын
Gotcha. I have the mindset of if something isn't broken don't go try fixing it. If you're getting by with the old one there, I'd leave it. If you for sure want to use that space and remove it, then disconnect the wiring (make sure to flip the breaker before and test) then I'd make sure the water supply is turned off (and it is its own line and that off position doesn't impact any other water lines like your sink faucet), then detach the drain hose at the garbage disposal under your sink then purchase a rubber plug and close up that punch out on your disposal. 85% of the time water won't come out of this, but when you're using your disposal or water builds up, then it can be an issue so plugging that and ensuring that plug stays is key. Best of luck! Let me know if you have more questions

Yeah, I'm not handy enough to do this myself, but I still watched the entire video because I'm paying someone $200 to install a new dishwasher this week and I'm going to "supervise"... lol. Realistically, I watched the video to see what items I may need to have prepared, such as a towel and cleaning wipes to clean the floor when they move the old dishwasher out. Thank you for a valuable and helpful video.
