So English 1 encompasses writing, grammar, and literature. All language arts. If you want to list literature separately, which is fine, you would actually only get .5 credits in each. English 1 .5 credit, American Literature (for example), .5 credit. Alternatively, if she has a much higher literature course load than typical (and/or writing component too), you could call it Honors English 1.

From Beth: we are also in WA, and our kids have been getting high school credit recording since 7th grade. We don't jump them to the higher grades, we just make sure the work they are doing meets high school standards. Usually they start with electives like music and art, sometimes foreign language or health. But it does make it easier as they get older to not have to cream so much in. They also tend to handle it well, so if I had kids who didn't I wouldn't do that. Just getting ready to graduate our oldest, and 2nd is now sophomore, third is 8th, fourth is in 6th. Hope that helps!

That sounds great. So I guess, my question is, are you then using a transcript that just puts all the maths, english, social studies, science, and electives without the grade level completed? or are you doing it in 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th 12th?

@CalmintheChaosHomeschool from Beth: Yes, it has a completed list of the various classes and credits in each category, and then the second page has the years they completed it. It's partly with a local public school for some of the classes, it's a homeschool program. And they offer credits in 7th, 8th for certain classes, but only if they student gets an A in the class will they count the credit. So one page is the credits, and can have the years completed on the next page. So my daughter is finished 9th grade but has completed 3 years of French, 2 math credits, 1 English Credit, 2 arts credits, etc.

In our state we have the same requirements apart from the fact we have to be a private school to make a transcript!!! My friend set that up for us as he’ll need it as well for his kids!!! We are being flexible on curriculums!!! We need 3 Social studies, 3 math, 4 ELA, 1 PE, half health, 2 languages and 6 electives!!! I’m flexible with names!!! Idk what labs are required but we do labs often!!! We are doing 2 freshmen yrs with my teenage daughter!!! We are allowed to do it this way!!! 1 of our math needs to be a basic math or functional math as my homeschool advisor is calling it!!! 4 PE i track hrs!!! We have Bible on our transcript for my high school jr so same thing for my other kids!!! I’ve not thought of the art my daughter is doing on her research project!!!

That does sound super similar! Last I heard, you were in Hawaii? Is that right? If so... are you staying there for a while?

So helpful! My son is just in 7th this year, but my niece and nephew are going into 9th (in public school) and it has me thinking and planning 😂 I love the graph you made. Also, am I crazy? Did you used to live in Canada?
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool3 ай бұрын
Glad it is helpful! As for Canada, you are not crazy :) I AM Canadian and I used to live in Canada (though that was over 17 years ago). I've been in the US a lot of my life.

@@CalmintheChaosHomeschool haha okay! Maybe I remember you talking about living in Canada at some point, but I thought you were homeschooling there as well, so that was my mistake! Not that it matters, I was just surprised when you said Washington 😂

It’s a mess 😂🥲 Starting 9th grade this year. I have this year set but for next 3 I have bunch of ideas written down for each year. It’s hard when I don’t know which science or elective he’ll want to take in 2 years. He’s most likely on the trade school path so trying to focus on subjects that will help him with that. They have a curriculum called Trade School Math which we might do senior year.
