Do you have a homeschool style? If so, what is it?

Same here! 8 years later and I've never had a style. My kids aren't the artsy crafty type, they are a 'lets just get it done" type 🤣 We are definitely eclectic. Whatever works is what we use. I love that you put this out there.

💯 👏. I went down the rabbit hole when I started. What are we? Well… A little of everything! We use books, nature, play, videos, ect. Just follow what works for the kids! Less tears and more learning. It’s definitely a gray area! I would love to be a Charlotte Mason lol. I do look for her style of books. ❤

This will be my 10th year of homeschooling. We have dabbled in a little bit of everything. In the first years, I tried to steer clear of "traditional" materials because I kept hearing about how homeschooling needs to look different than regular school. Workbooks were frowned upon and considered to be boring or even stifling. So we did Charlotte Mason. Then I started hearing from the Classical Ed crowd. One particular Classical curriculum is cherished in my social circle. So I invested big bucks into it and it didn't work out for us. I finally accepted that the traditional style works best for us for most subjects. I am older and care less about what others think or what they are doing. We still use a CM style spelling program and get our literature selections from a Classical reading list, and we are pretty relaxed about all of it.

As a teacher I've learned to supplement whatever I think is needed so that is what I'm doing now for my kids. I'm focusing on the content of what I want them to learn and adding whatever pieces will accomplish that. (Eclectic)

Thank you for this. Sometimes I need a reminder that we don't need to fit in a box to have a great homeschool environment❤

I let my kids pick the first year and we went with Timberdoodle. Some of it worked, some didn’t. I loved that it included STEAM and games, but my kids just didn’t love it all. We made SO many changes the first year. I was drawn to classical method. And tried to mix in more classical the second year. Kids weren’t crazy about it. We have found that one hates text books and prefers literature based, but not fully CM because art study, composer study, hymn study, and picture study don’t work here. So we have elements from classical, CM, and traditional. We have found what works for each of them and really found our groove after a couple years.

What method would you consider My Father's World? I was traditionally homeschooled, and it worked great. All these "methods" are a new idea to me now that I'm pulling my own kids out to homeschool. I feel like we need the structure of a traditional curriculum, but my young kids will miss public school, so I really want to find something that they will enjoy. I'm currently leaning towards MFW, but I truly don't know anything about how these non traditional styles work.

I did MWF this past year and I would say a combo of Charlotte Mason and unit studies. We really enjoyed it!
