I haven’t been doing this all that long. But I can tell a huge difference in my boys grammar and writing once they started reading good books. It’s like good grammar and writing in, good grammar and writing out. Lol

We have used the old and new versions of IEW. My girls both like the nee version better. I have also use the IEW writing and have also taken it slower. I love it! I am not a stronger writer and also kind of dread it but finding tools to help is a blessing. I have never used Shirley. I will look into it and perhaps we will give it a try next year.

Language arts has been a struggle for me, We just started homeschooling this year and I have already been through TGTB language arts, christian light, and IEW. I didnt like those for my 11 yo son. Right now we are using daily grams and when he seems to have trouble with a grammatical concept then we go into it further with the easy grammar workbook. Thats been useful so as to not do repetitive stuff he already knows. We also started LLATL and he seems to like that, but I dont like it as a stand alone. Im an old school and feel he needs separate writing and grammar. I just started EIW writing program. I like it because it tailors the grammar to what is useful for writing. I just wish language arts was easier to design. I wish I didnt have to use so many different resources but grammar and writing are technically different subjects. I did buy grammar for the well-trained mind but havent started it because it is a very in depth grammar course and I am not sure if my son needs that. So I am trying to think about plans to continue on and for next year but I just dont know what to do!! Love your videos and advice as always.

Congratulations on your new journey of homeschooling🤗 It sounds like your son has had some solid grammar. Does he know the 8 basics parts of speech? He may do find with just IEW writing which does include learning about grammar. Maybe try fix it next year. I think starting in the right book helps but is hard to figure out😉 Pray you find what you are looking for ❤️🙏

Hello, I’m wondering how long is your typical homeschool day? Do you do everything scheduled in the HOD guides? I need some advice. We have been using HOD for 7 years, this would be our 8th year, but our days are very long. I also feel like I have kind of neglected math and language arts. We do do them, but not like we should have been. I want to focus more on those two things this year, but I feel like we just don’t have enough time in our day. How do you manage it all? Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Hey- my first question for you is do you only have 1 or more😉. For my 6th grader now I was trying to calculate that the other day and I want to say around 4 hours at the most. I will probably do a video in future to break things down. If you haven’t watch my last video about Res to Ref that gives you an idea of what we are and are not using. We do not do it all!!! I usually try and get Bible, math, and language arts in before anything else. I feel like we can always catch up on reading and we have a 5th day. Also this year for science we are using science shepherd online and that has been helpful. If you have more detail questions you are welcome to message me on Instagram😉 I did ask if you have more than one because when my oldest was in middle school it looked quite different than it does now😁 I hope this was helpful ❤️🙏

@@learningwithboys7431 thank you for your reply! I have two boys, 13 and 10. I am using two guides, for my ten year old, we are doing Preparing this year. But we do everything in the guides as scheduled, except for the history projects. We usually skip those. I love HOD, and since the beginning, my plan has always been to use it all the way through high school. This is the first time I’m questioning if it’s still a good idea or if we should stop using it, only because of time, no other reason. But it’s not an easy decision to make, at least for me, it’s very hard.

@@learningwithboys7431 I forgot to mention that we do not use their math or language arts programs, we have always used different resources for those two subjects.
