Wow this is such a great way to homeschool. I often get overwhemed when I don't stick to the timeframes or start late. Would you consider doing a video on how you both were homeschooled compared to how you approach homeschool. Are there things you do different now? God bless. Your podcasts really motivate me to do things God's way and not man's way.

Thank you for sharing in such great detail! My question is - when do you do chores around the house? I wake up and workout, have quiet time and get in an hour of focused work for my job. After that, it’s like all-in on school and kid-care and the house is a disaster at the end of the day! 🤦‍♀️ OR I give the kids chore lists and one of them is sooo s l o w moving that we lose our precious school time! Sigh. Would love your thoughts on house-care, kid-care and balancing mom-care, too!

Appreciated seeing how you find out your homeschool week. Our home school schedule looks very much like yours with all the Beauty subjects and such but the schedule is all laid out for me with A Gentle Feast Charlotte Mason based homeschool curriculum. I have switched out and customized a few things for our family but I love that all the scheduling and planning is already done and the teachers book and I just have to follow it. Hats off to you for hand writing out all of your own scheduling - I just couldn’t do that. I am not a big planning person like you but I love having the structuring already there and then I can switch out or change up things when I find it works best for us. I appreciate your ideas about using things like meal times to get an extra subjects, but I am seriously wondering when YOU eat. 😆 thanks again for sharing.

I think kids shouldn’t be overwhelmed with so much to do! The more hands on and outside is the best homeschool we as moms can give them. 😊 they are happy and enjoy it more . That’s why it’s so different from actual school where they sit for l almost half day .Let your kids be kids and enjoy every minute because they won’t get that back !!!❤

We also use the Charlotte Mason method ❤ We use Ambleside with some SCM sprinkled in. We have an AO Y5, Y1 and 2 littles 😊 We are also not ones to use a Timetable. I tried that but it's stressful because we just can't in this season with littles. I love that you mention that because it's realistic and not the "perfect" Instagram timetable post lol

We're also using the CMEC this year for the first time (our boys are almost the same age). For kindergarten and 1st grade/ Form 1B, I put together my own CM inspired curriculum. But I wanted to try out the CMEC this year because of all the mother's education resources. I, too, am swapping out a few books and making the program work for us. The lesson planning part is so fun for me! haha

Oh wow, Katie. This Looks so much like something I would love to do. But here in germany were not allowed to homeschool once the kids reach school age. I could keep them home from kindergarden which Im thinking about doing....but thats a tough decision around here.... Anyway, hope to see lots more of your homeschool content. Nothing comparable here ...:( Thank you for keeping me inspired❤❤❤

Do you hand rewards for all the work that your kids finish? Like stickers or points? How do you motivate them to keep working on learning? I heard Peter Gray’s “Free to Play” and am conflicted between letting my kids come up with the motivation to do the work themselves vs encouraging them to work on learning with rewards while making sure they enjoy it

Great video! I plan in a similar way except my kids are older and more independent and I am fully using Ambleside Online. I Have been looking into the CMEC mostly because our local co-op will be utilizing it. May I ask what you see as the benefit of that over Ambleside? I love Ambleside, and we have been using it for 7 years, so I don't want to change without a clear reason. Plus, CMEC is expensive!

We tried Ambleside and I still enjoy it occasionally but we decided to focus on language arts, math and penmanship and to follow CC cycle 3 even though we won't be in community (at least not at first due to July baby coming) I just felt CC was easy to follow and included good prompts that lead into more classical education if that is important you, as it is to us. I like that you can get into community and skip community on years that are overwhelming and still have the continuity of curriculum year after year and for the entire family. You are such a go getter and type A and I love that but man that is not me haha and I love that for each of us. You are always an inspiration and I hope your pregnancy is going well. Question, when is nap time for you or do you power through the day without one for yourself ? Man that is one of the anchors for my day after morning lessons just having quiet time and sleeping a bit LOL

How can I convince my husband to try homeschool for a year? He believes I can’t do it, and I understand him because I too struggle with consistency, but I really want to do it. Our kids are little and 2 of them are in a private school, but I’d like to have full control of what they learn and also develop a good relationship with me teaching them.

2nd generation homeschooler here 🙋‍♀️ Growing up, I did public school, private school, and homeschooling. By far, I loved being homeschooled the most because it gave me the ability to dive deep into subjects I loved. Now I'm homeschooling my rising kindergartener and 2nd grader. I also struggle with consistency, but we prioritize math, reading, writing, and Bible (this typically takes us less than 2 hours a day. Sometimes we do it in the morning and sometimes after lunch. Usually only 4 days a week too to give flexibility for field trips, etc). If one of your husband's worries is a lack of consistency though, there are so many amazing co-ops and classes available for homeschoolers now that can help keep you on track. You can also looks at the curriculum your kids would be following in their school next year and choose curriculum that covers similar subjects, so if you only try it for one year, they can easily jump back into the school. I was fortunate that my husband was actually also homeschooled, so we knew without a doubt that was what we wanted since we both felt our educations were better than what most of our friends in school received. But do lots of praying about it. Look into what resources are in your area, and try to meet a local homeschool mentor. Sometimes just having more information makes a decision make more sense. *Personal testament: In 6th grade, my mom was worried we weren't learning enough at home after she'd pulled us out of public school in 3rd grade, so she put us in a private school. I was so bored that I begged to come back home after the first semester! We ended up finding an accredited classical education homeschool program locally that met once a week, and I graduated from there- no GED needed. At least half of the students I graduated with went on to earn a doctorate in their field of study. I completed my bachelor's Summa Cum Laude, and the VP of the college told me they loved homeschool students because they usually test better and are typically more well-rounded. 😉

I'm confused. If you're paying for cmec, what do they provide? Is Katie's schedule her own improvised schedule or cmec? I did some searching and I guess the cost of cmec is a secret hidden behind a $300 registration pay wall. So, I didn't at first hear that Katie was using this curriculum. It sounds like a crazy number of things to fit in. Can anyone disclose how much the basic cmec curriculum costs (lesson planners etc not extras like crafts and clay).

Hi! The CMEC provides the curriculum (living book) recommendations for each grade level based on the PNEU, and teaches you how to teach each subject using the Charlotte Mason philosophy as the mother teacher. They provide info on how long to study each subject based on Charlotte Mason's timelines and tell you how often to teach each subject. :) The price varies per family based on whether you buy books old or used, what editions you use, what you already own, etc. I swap out some of the curriculum recommendations with my own choices, but I have learned of a lot of great options through the CMEC. Ultimately, the CMEC gives you practical resources to build a homeschool based off Charlotte Mason's philosophy of teaching children in short timeframes a LOT of subjects.
