Our List of 100 Things to Be, Do, and Have . . . As a Family

Now That We're A Family

9 ай бұрын

Today we get to talk about something that I have practically lived by since I was 14 years old, but we’ve recently applied it to our family. It’s given us a lot of clarity and vision. Proverbs 16:9 - “A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.” Things can change obviously, but I am a big believer in this Bible verse. There is something special about having a vision, goals and dreams, even if God does throw curveballs your way and things have to change.
Sometimes Friday night has gotten here and we have looked back and thought, did we even decide what we we were going to do on any of our evenings or did it feel like those decisions were made for us? Did we just say yes to opportunities, offers and invitations only to get to a point in our life where we feel like we are out of control in what our life looks like? It doesn’t have to be this way though. One way we get out of this cycle is looking at our list of 100 things to be, do and have. Making this list is a really helpful exercise in looking at the big picture, clarifying your goals and what you are going to do with your free time.
It’s really fun to comprise this list and helps you and your spouse to get on the same page in drawing a vision for your family. The more you do the things on your list, the more fun it gets. Anything that requires you to put down what’s going on in your mind on paper is going to be clarifying for your vision as a family and your unity as a spouse. It’s important to have a vision for your family and some expectations that you’re pursuing.
We hope you try making your own list of 100 things to be, do and have and that it blesses your family and home! :)

God has blessed you and your family. And He has blessed this message and your efforts to help other families out there, you truly are vessels for His glory! I love the vision you guys have for your family and how intentional you are with everything, you truly are investing and I pray God may forever bless the fruits of your labor. You two are filled with wisdom and it truly inspires me! I am engaged to be married and can’t wait to have a family if God blesses us with kids, and if that’s the case I will definitely want to incorporate and take into consideration your wisdom and input! Love you guys my fellow brother and sister in Christ. ❤

This could be tied into the concept taught in David Allen's book, "Getting Things Done." His book is about productivity and time management. It's a great read. It breaks your "to-do" list or "projects/goals" (anything that isn't a one-and-done task) down into "Next Actions," so when you have a pocket of time, you already have a "next action" you can take. Or breaking those bigger/longer-term dreams/goals down into the next action/step- something you can do today. You can add the things you're talking about to figure out what small steps you can take to keep things moving forward...instead of wasting your time. It's an excellent book. I highly recommend it. I am always motivated and encouraged by you two. I'm excited to sit down and make a list. Thanks again!

This terrifies me. As someone who's life has been completely blindsided twice I can't stress enough how unimportant our ideas of how things should go really is. Even down to enjoying the present moment and wishing it would last forever or holding on to items because you think they'll bring some value. God uses us in many ways. Be prepared to give it all up.

If the kids were enjoying thriving and making friendships and learning teamwork at soccer were you willing to add it to your list and remove something else. Sometimes we need to be open to things not on our list

Oh please share what your traditions are for the holidays and how to center God in them. We are moving away from the American Halloween, Christmas, thanksgiving because none of them are actually biblical. Looking into the Jewish holy days but it’s all new. Love to hear your thoughts on what the Bible says about the holidays

What I understood from the video is that Katie and Elisha each have their own individual lists, and then they made an additional one together for their family that their kids are able to suggest ideas for too! :)

You guys are code talking from what i can tell. Do the soccer. Go with the flow. Don't confine yourself to just a hundred things on a list. Let your kids decide for themselves what they are interested in for extra curricular.

There’s nothing wrong with limiting your time to what really matters to you at the time. Too many people make their lives too busy that they can’t even enjoy the simple moments and that’s why it’s important to prioritize. I’m sure if their kids were absolutely loving soccer and finding it useful they would have continued on it but it’s not always the case like with our own kids. So parents have to be picky about what we do with our time. If their kids ever wanted to do something different they definitely could in the future.

@@steffa648 It was the email sent out on September 27th that spoke about him being sick. There was no Thursday video posted last week so maybe this one was recorded around the time he was sick. Not sure but that’s my guess anyway.
