I use the Good and the Beautiful with my preschooler too! I did the Kindergarten Prep and Kindergarten with my older son. I’ll start Kindergarten prep with my daughter when she finishes up preschool. I really enjoy the ease of TGTB, and that most of it is free online!

I have seen a lot of reviews from people saying they love Abeka BUT, one subject or another isn't a great fit for their kid in certain grade levels. I would honestly just think that his grade level of...was it language arts?...just isn't a good fit for him right now.

I was wondering the same.

I'm so sorry! Life was too hectic, and I had to step away from KZbin for a while, but the (sorry, kinda long) answer is that he was having a hard time paying attention to the videos. I tried TGATB with him for the first quarter last year, and although I didn't hate it, it was just not for us. It is beautiful, but they introduce new concepts very quickly, and the child is supposed to just jump in and get it. There's very little "teaching." It felt more like a workbook you'd get from Walmart, just prettier and with some wording for the parents. The first unit "test" was so all over the place Gunner even commented about it. There were things in the unit test that he wasn't taught, or they'd drill simple concepts way too much. They also teach phonics in an entirely different way than Abeka. We'd spent the last 3 years drilling the special sounds Abeka teaches, and I found myself deviating from TGATB a lot. It just was NOT for us. After that, Gunner was begging to go back to Abeka, and I was too. I ordered his 3rd grade stuff, and we just picked up right at the lesson Georgia was on (approximately lesson 45), and he did great. He jumped right back in. I did start teaching him many of the lessons rather than having him watch the videos, which he really does better with. So now we do a mix of videos and parent-led with Abeka for Gunner. I absolutely love that TGATB is an option for families, and their generosity at offering their curriculum for free is amazing. It just doesn't work for us, unfortunately. I have briefly tried TGATB and Gather Round, and I keep coming back to Abeka. Nothing compares to how thorough it is, how academically strong it is, and how my children really thrive with it. :-) Thank you for the question, and sorry it was such a late answer. Stay Blessed! ❤️
