I love that you guys are so open minded about what’s best for your kids, lots of people who homeschool are very wedded to the idea, but I love that you’re exploring (/letting them explore) what’s best for them as individuals! (Also side note - going to high school, socialising and only doing fun electives sounds like an absolute dream)

I'd say that the majority of people who celebrate halloween just do it for the fun ,spooky ,dress up ,free candy situation....it's not like everyone is praying to the devil or whatnot. I never understood why people actually thought it was some dark anti- religious holiday, it's not that deep lol.

I grew up in a Christian household and my grandfather was a pastor, my entire family celebrated Halloween. My parents would do anything that made it fun for us kids (I’m 30 now). Every Halloween I always had to have blood on my costumes, my parents/family never cared. To me, Halloween is a day where kids and adults can play dress up and have fun. Celebrate whatever holiday you want. Ignore the comments like that. You’re living your life and having fun. You guys are great parents. I love your videos!

Yup, you are correct that Christmas on the 25th of December was based off a pagan holiday. It started off as a Yule celebration of the Winter Solstice by various pagan religions and the Catholics Co-opted it and made it the birthday of Jesus as a way to help convert others to their religion. Many scholars of the bible and history seem to agree that his actual birth was in mid September to early October by the modern Gregorian Calendar.

Meghan, I like that you are open minded about celebrating Halloween (or as I as a pagan call it Samhain). Samhain is about celebrating the last harvest and the sun slowly going into hibernation. It's also a time of honoring our ancestor's. It's taken yrs for my hubby to understand I don't just celebrate a day I celebrate every day as a gift, Each morning is a rebirth with the rising of the Sun (God) who goes to sleep and joins with the Moon (Goddess). I live each day to honor myself and my loved ones on both sides of the veil. Blessings to all you.

Your chores are #goals was there a phase of the kids resisting the chores? I'm having a hard time motivating myself through the whiny I don't want to to stage, and I know it needs to happen. Any tips on motivating kids to do their chores?
@mybestlifepossible25766 жыл бұрын
Obviously, your children are at an age where they can voice an opinion. Intro to chores should have been introduced to children at much younger age. The moment your child tries to imitate the things you do when you are doing chores, than this is when you and that child do the same chore together but you make it seem like play. For instance children can be taught how to pick up their toys and put them back. Do it with them , make it fun, praise them. In the beginning they are little apprentices, and mommy's helpers, so include them , in various things, so they can learn, and start to realize, everyone's help is needed to make the family run smoothly. Never pay them for being a team player in the family. Older kids, try setting aside, one day, where the family gets chores done together. Think of some incentives. Order maybe, their favorite pizza, you all sit and eat at home as a family. Do something you all will enjoy together. Maybe you will get a movie, to watch together and pop popcorn , etc.

The holiday and activities, have pagan roots, for a good reason. For a Celtic Samhain you appreciate nature and all you have been given during the warm weather and harvest. You always thank the fairies with treats or else they might play tricks on you. You have a quiet dinner where you set spaces for loved ones that have passed away. Setting out pictures, or meaningful items of theirs. You remember, morn, and celebrate the ways they touched your life. You decorate with pumpkins, and harvest colors, candles, and have fun. Nothing evil or wicked there.

I don't/didn't celebrate Halloween when my children were young -- it was fun to take them trick-or-treating dressed in non-goulish costumes and I loved waiting for kids to ring the doorbell and giving them treats. My grandchildren went to harvest festivals dressed in non-goulish costumes when they were little. Yet, I don't fault others for celebrating/decorating for halloween if they like to.

Have you seen The Twilight Zone episode with "Talky Tina"? I think it was called "Living Doll". Perfectly creepy without being too dark. Certainly not gory and too campy/old to be terrifying. That's the great thing about The Twilight Zone. It's got a creepy vibe, but still often has a moral and doesn't leave you feeling gross or like you've been glorifying Darkness. I don't celebrate Halloween, but I do find myself gravitating to spookier books and movies throughout the Fall season. There's something about the shortening days, the falling leaves and dying foliage that bring a craving for books like Dracula and shows like The Twilight Zone. :)
