I love that you guys are so open minded about what’s best for your kids, lots of people who homeschool are very wedded to the idea, but I love that you’re exploring (/letting them explore) what’s best for them as individuals! (Also side note - going to high school, socialising and only doing fun electives sounds like an absolute dream)

I'd say that the majority of people who celebrate halloween just do it for the fun ,spooky ,dress up ,free candy situation....it's not like everyone is praying to the devil or whatnot. I never understood why people actually thought it was some dark anti- religious holiday, it's not that deep lol.

Yet Christians were perfectly okay putting their holidays on the same days as pagans and taking many of the celebrations along with them. 🙄

I grew up in a Christian household and my grandfather was a pastor, my entire family celebrated Halloween. My parents would do anything that made it fun for us kids (I’m 30 now). Every Halloween I always had to have blood on my costumes, my parents/family never cared. To me, Halloween is a day where kids and adults can play dress up and have fun. Celebrate whatever holiday you want. Ignore the comments like that. You’re living your life and having fun. You guys are great parents. I love your videos!

Yup, you are correct that Christmas on the 25th of December was based off a pagan holiday. It started off as a Yule celebration of the Winter Solstice by various pagan religions and the Catholics Co-opted it and made it the birthday of Jesus as a way to help convert others to their religion. Many scholars of the bible and history seem to agree that his actual birth was in mid September to early October by the modern Gregorian Calendar.

We use Gobble and Plated. Gobble is 15min to table and Plated 30-50 min prep and cook. I looked at menus from other companies and did not like the menu choices. We are only 3 in our family but even that can be hard to plan and prepare meals each week. I live having something a few nights per week that is "easy" to make.

Loved Elijah's after-school conversation. I would pick my 2 oldest up from Highschool a and my daughter would give me a second by second account of all the DRAMA of her day. My son would give this answer to how was school? "UH, I dunno know. OK, I guess. What did you do today?" Usual,, whatever. He was truly voted Senior of the year class of 2000 and today he has his Masters Degree and is Head of Facility finance for the state of Montana. Boys are just not talkers.

Meghan, I like that you are open minded about celebrating Halloween (or as I as a pagan call it Samhain). Samhain is about celebrating the last harvest and the sun slowly going into hibernation. It's also a time of honoring our ancestor's. It's taken yrs for my hubby to understand I don't just celebrate a day I celebrate every day as a gift, Each morning is a rebirth with the rising of the Sun (God) who goes to sleep and joins with the Moon (Goddess). I live each day to honor myself and my loved ones on both sides of the veil. Blessings to all you.

Growing up I loved Halloween and still do. I think if all the good people take it over it would be Awesome. On what day do you open your doors and hearts to children and giving something that makes each of them happy. The kids that come to my door are so cute. You get to say hi to neighbors and strangers. Giving always makes me feel good. From a Christian that loves Halloween.

I did look it up myself and decided not to take my kids trick or treating but do some fun things with them to celebrate the season instead. I LOVE fall!!! We still dress up have a good time and celebrate our way. Even if I did celebrate I wouldn’t trick or treat because there are too many young adults doing creepy stuff and I wouldn’t want them scaring my kiddos. 😂

Your chores are #goals was there a phase of the kids resisting the chores? I'm having a hard time motivating myself through the whiny I don't want to to stage, and I know it needs to happen. Any tips on motivating kids to do their chores?
@mybestlifepossible2576
@mybestlifepossible2576 6 жыл бұрын
Obviously, your children are at an age where they can voice an opinion. Intro to chores should have been introduced to children at much younger age. The moment your child tries to imitate the things you do when you are doing chores, than this is when you and that child do the same chore together but you make it seem like play. For instance children can be taught how to pick up their toys and put them back. Do it with them , make it fun, praise them. In the beginning they are little apprentices, and mommy's helpers, so include them , in various things, so they can learn, and start to realize, everyone's help is needed to make the family run smoothly. Never pay them for being a team player in the family. Older kids, try setting aside, one day, where the family gets chores done together. Think of some incentives. Order maybe, their favorite pizza, you all sit and eat at home as a family. Do something you all will enjoy together. Maybe you will get a movie, to watch together and pop popcorn , etc.

Oooh, you should put some of the dolls in the windows, looking out. In a town I used to live in, someone had an old victorian home and a ceramic doll collection. They put the dolls in the windows looking out, and it was sooo spooky. But they did it because they were weird, not because it was Halloween.

Halloween is getting bigger and bigger in Germany. But in February we celebrate Carnival (the same week as Mardi Gras in Louisiana) were we dress up and do something similar to trick or treating. So a few years back when Halloween wasn't big in Germany yet, my sister, cousins and I went trick or treating and all the old people were so confused because "it's not carnival yet!"

The holiday and activities, have pagan roots, for a good reason. For a Celtic Samhain you appreciate nature and all you have been given during the warm weather and harvest. You always thank the fairies with treats or else they might play tricks on you. You have a quiet dinner where you set spaces for loved ones that have passed away. Setting out pictures, or meaningful items of theirs. You remember, morn, and celebrate the ways they touched your life. You decorate with pumpkins, and harvest colors, candles, and have fun. Nothing evil or wicked there.

I don't/didn't celebrate Halloween when my children were young -- it was fun to take them trick-or-treating dressed in non-goulish costumes and I loved waiting for kids to ring the doorbell and giving them treats. My grandchildren went to harvest festivals dressed in non-goulish costumes when they were little. Yet, I don't fault others for celebrating/decorating for halloween if they like to.

No one should be ashamed of what lies beneath our skin, its our foundation and its not scarry, everyone has a skeleton so be thankful for it, celebrate it, its a wonderful gift. I ran haunted houses professionally and you make of it what you will. Satan was never a part of it, neither was black magic hocus pocus etc, its a wonderful way to celebrate and make memories as well as celebrating our deceased and remembering them.

Have you seen The Twilight Zone episode with "Talky Tina"? I think it was called "Living Doll". Perfectly creepy without being too dark. Certainly not gory and too campy/old to be terrifying. That's the great thing about The Twilight Zone. It's got a creepy vibe, but still often has a moral and doesn't leave you feeling gross or like you've been glorifying Darkness. I don't celebrate Halloween, but I do find myself gravitating to spookier books and movies throughout the Fall season. There's something about the shortening days, the falling leaves and dying foliage that bring a craving for books like Dracula and shows like The Twilight Zone. :)
