I have a K, and I use the library so much. We get a new bag of books every week. We get library books on all the science and social studies topics. I bought a phonics and a math curriculum, but before I bought stuff, I actually checked out some from the library to see what it was like before I bought it. I checked out Phonics pathways and tried it with my daughter.

Those are great ideas! Checking the library first is always a good idea!

What an encouragement you are to new homeschooling families! Yes! It doesn't have to be difficult and costly! I heard advice about my kids being young and not needing tons of schooling. Sadly, I was headstrong and a little (read: a lot) competitive. No idea who we are competing against... 😂 I am still consoling myself with hopes they will turn out ok. God's mercies are new everyday! ❤ You are a blessing!

You are so sweet. And I can totally relate to being headstrong and competitive. Haha! It's so funny to see how far I've come along with the Lord teaching me that it's not about the grades, how advanced they are, or if they know "X,Y,Z." It is certainly easy to get caught up in it all, though. In the end, I want Godly children who love and serve the Lord. So who cares if they know the Pythagorean Theorem, how to diagram a sentence, or what the endocrine system does. I am constantly reminding myself to put the first things first. And if we get to that other stuff, great. If not, at least we have given them the tools to know how to learn it. Thank God for his mercy!! :)

@@livingthegandeelife5565 so true! I am trying to plan a slower pace this year and work on relationships within the family. I'm with you... Building godly children is of ultimate importance.

Yass!! 👏👏 My first year I was so worried about screwing up, that I insisted on wayyy more than we needed to do. My kids were pretty good natured about it, and we've learned to trust each other. It's gonna be okay. On a side note, I've taught four kids with Teach your child to read 100 lessons, and it was an excellent cheap resource. Love this!! 💕💕👏👏

Oh good, I am so glad to hear someone else found that to be a reliable resource! It is definitely so easy to be drawn to all the new homeschool materials. I wanted it all and I always had such great intentions. I'm sad to say, some got passed off without ever even being used much. You really can get by on so much less than you think is necessary! The further in I get, I try to abide by the saying, "Stick in the sand." Meaning, how could I teach this if the only resources I had were sticks and sand. For example, the extreme is, "Could I write it in the sand and they learn that way?" Obviously, just trying to make everything as simple as possible.

You're so right! There are so many cheap and free resources out there! Sometimes I think we buy into the idea that we have to spend lots of $ to have a good curriculum or education, which is silly!
