A lot of people apparently think i am saying “Neutron” in this video...its actually a Mu-tron Phasor II....great pedal...they usually sell in the 400-ish range. A couple other phasers (or phasOrs as some say) that are contenders for the “alltime greatest” category...the original Electro-Harmonix Small Stone...and the 70s Electro-Harmonix Poly Phase (great sound, if you can get past the volume drop when the effect is engaged) Party on lads!

I remember being in David Palmers Music store, circa 1979 and opted for a Phase 45 over the Mutron. Silly me.

Hey there Tom, not at all surprised when you said the Mu Tron was your preferred choice. Hahaha. As soon as I heard the comparison I thought of your bridge only guitars. The Mu just sounds like a bridge setup and the Phase90 sounds more like a neck setup. I'm more of a flanger guy, but the low and slow is definitely the way to go. Have a great Sunday with the family.

Hey Tom, I coulda sworn you had a Maestro Stage Phasor, the one with the "Balls" knob you move with your foot. I thought that was your fav. I have both it and the Mutron and I think the Maestro might be the winner of the chewiest award but they're both great. Killer on Rhodes too!

Hey Tom, I’m a guitar and classic car guy and own 64 lemans and 65 mustang and first want to say thank you so much as you have helped me so much through a tough year with your videos. so please take this as heartfelt advice. I’ve Seen your car in previous post, and it’s a driver which is the best type of classic to own. Today’s garages don’t understand old car tech, if they can’t plug it into a computer to tell them whats wrong with it their lost. I found out about 20 years ago I needed to learn myself because old cars are like a women, if you really listen they will tell you exactly what they need. The Chevy 65 impala is a pretty straight forward car especially if it’s mostly all original. I figured out a while ago I was able to do most of the engine and suspension work myself (including alignments) on my classic better then anyone else. Modern shops just don’t understand how to work on pre-OBD II (computer) cars. Bottom line Classic cars are not as hard as you think to work on and require minimal tools and you could really enjoy learning and doing it with your young son just like I did with my son who was a baby when I bought my first classic and I always played guitar so he been exposed to both his whole life and now All these years later I really love doing both with him. Just be careful with your hands and patient with a problem and I guaranty you will be happier in the long run doing most things yourself.

Thanks Little Tommy for this, especially the Genesis. Great stuff. I miss my Mu-Tron Phasor II and my 70s MXR Phase 100. Selling them (while in a phase) in the 80s is a painful episode except for the lovely ‘78 Super Reverb I got out of the deal. Imagine that I hated the AC cord! A dated hatred, itself. Along the phase lines, however, I like Uni-vibe sounds perhaps better yet. Rotary speaker-ish sounds, a la David Gilmour and Hendrix and Trower. Surely these are called for in some studio work, eh?

Tom I have an option for the G add9 chord fingering so you don't have to lift off the C bass note: I'm keeping the 3rd finger on the C bass note and using pinky for the 4th fret G string and middle finger for the 3rd fret on the B string (I have to lift my wrist to get that fingering). Anyway, just an option. I really enjoy your videos. Been watching these since March 2020. (I'm an old school guitarist I've been playing since 1980). You have a gift for writing nice arrangements!

Hey Tom, how much gain do you use? And what is your approach to dialing the right amount of gain in a studio situation? When I record my own songs, I always find myself turning the gain down on my pedals because I want more note clarity. When I listen back to my favorite rock albums from the ‘60s and ‘70s, I’m realizing that some of those legendary guitar tones weren’t as gained up as I originally thought. Tom Been awhile since I chimed in. Here is a difficult question. I am 59 yo. second bout w cancer. And only thing keeps me sane is my ax. been playing since 13. Im pretty good, but should be so much better. Here is my issue, I am a habitual NOODLER. Its brutal. I know thats a mental issue you cant help me with. But is there one or two things you could help me to jump start my playing. Your command of ax is really amazing. You r definately not a noodler. Ty, GC

Sing some melodies that you want to play before you even touch the strings...and then fish them out by ear. “Noodlers” are simply people who mindlessly let their fingers fall in patterns and shapes the same way they always have without thinking or without any intent.

Mutron definitely. Though I do miss my first Phase 90....... long ago. RE your Bassman My all time personal favorite rig (of mine) was ca early '70s when I had a '59 Bassman and a '60 Concert. I don't think I ever got over that ...........

Hell yeah Tommy , I learned County Fair about 25 years ago! That and Walk Away are probably my favorite Joe tunes. Oh yeah , The Bomber is way up there too. Cool Genesis lesson! Buckeyes kicked Michigan States ass yesterday, I love that! I'm a Buckeye in Michigan LOL! 🐉💀👽🎸🎶🎵🧠

Hey Uncle Larry. Check with Kevin Shaw there in Lebanon area I think. He’s an amp builder Shaw Audio, but he’s also a great mechanic. You’ll see by his OddRodd dragster that he built himself and currently runs all over. Have a Blessed day. If you happen to contact Kevin, tell him I sent you. Super nice guy.

Thanks for another great episode Tom! About that shirt. Seen all your episodes but never heard you play any fuzz effects? Look forward to, what’s your relation to fuzz?

All the way down, yep, almost all the time. My very first pedal back in the mid '70s was the Small Stone. :0)

Hey Uncle Larry-- longtime listener but first-time caller from the land of Oz. Just want to say that I deeply love your work. It's absolutely great stuff. If I may be so bold, can you please expand on the technique that you demonstrated in that recent reggae video of yours? My memory can be fuzzy but I don't recall having seen that previous episode you mentioned where you'd first demonstrated the technique. I haven't been able to find it in the lessons on your earlier videos yet. Any further lessons on the technique would be very much appreciated. By the way, what are your thoughts on Paul Kossoff and Free?

Much love for Joe Walsh, but when you said "best phase shifter intro of all time..." and DIDN'T play the part from Shine on You Crazy Diamond - I was a little taken aback.
