With rain comes moving water and deteriorating surfaces. With the latest spell of rain we have seen a new water channel form alongside the main water ravine, which is causing our access road to start washing away. I needed to jump into action and get a pipe laid down to ensure no further damage occurs so that we can continue to be able to access our homestead.

A major part of my homesteading journey is doing everything myself and with as little machinery and energy as possible. Digging up a road and laying pipes is a lot of hard work, but the reward is incredibly worth it. Homesteading is not for the faint hearted as things always go wrong and constantly need fixing. However, being proactive and getting to things before it really goes wrong goes a long way.
Join me as I dig a trench on my homestead road and lay a new pipe to increase the flow of water under the road and into our property.

Hi Craig, if you could get hold of some crusher dust, it would work very well in supporting the pipe as well as leveling out the road. Sterkte😊

That's a genius suggestion, thank you so very much!!! They actually just finished up some road works in the area last week and removed all the heavy machinery but left behind a massive pile of crushed dust so I'll have a chat to the foreman and see if he will give me a bakkie load. You are right, that will work incredibly well as it settles and is compacted over time. Dankie, het die sterkte wense nodig 😂

Thanks so much for the cheer and I will keep slogging away as I know what's waiting for me along the way 😀 the wood for the house has been ordered so the build project is kicking off soon, which is going to be amazing to document and share with you. Hopefully it can give you ideas and inspire you to make your dream a reality 🌻

Thanks for your comment, Pam, I love hearing from you 🌻 Yes, it was hard work and I'm really happy to report that it all paid off. We have had some good rains and the water is flowing beautifully. My next video is actually how we have been able to collect and start storing water, which is really exciting 🌻
