Homestead White Sapote Tasting

Wow, that white sapote tree is loaded! I loved the colour inside that fruit too! I managed to try some white sapotes this year for the first time from someone who brought them back from their trip to Greece. They were pretty good, but I think they were picked a little early, unfortunately, so they weren't as sweet as they could have been, even when they were incredibly soft. I have a bunch of seedlings growing now, so we'll see if I can keep them going long enough to get them to flower or manage to get hold of some scions to graft onto them🤞

In the desert of 9b Arizona, the cooler season is best to plant most plants. Heat is often bad and cold can cause problems for sensitive plants. If the plant is potted and has been out in the weather, anytime should work fine.

It was so sweet and juicy at that ripeness. The heat here tends to ripen them faster.

My seedlings are coming along slowly but ok. Approximately how long they take to fruit when grown from seeds?

Thanks for watching. Seed to fruit is 7 to 8 years, but if you graft the seedling with a cutting from a fruit bearing tree you can take a few years off that time.

​@edibletropicaltrees which it was that easy but I don't think we have any of these trees in Barbados. Trinidad, Jamaica and Puerto Rico have such diverse varieties of fruit trees

White Sapote seed to fruit is 5 to 7 years. If you can graft it with a producing tree it can fruit sooner.
