I like the idea of Cayenne pepper. I’m going to try it.

Warm oatmeal is great before night because they heat themselves to digest the oats.

Dang you giving your chickens Pellegrino water? Fancy! Haha! Love the channel. Stumbled upon it as we are researching sheep on our tiny farm. Just purchased two American Guinea hogs (sows). Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Haha. The pellegrino is just what we store crushed egg shells in. We use the bottle like a mineral feeder. I'm jealous of you getting american guinea hogs. They are so interesting. Happy to hear more people getting into heritage hogs!

Any idea how to preserve the soon coming cicadas for winter chicken feed? Anything (simple) except freezing!

So funny when you chose to say kill the birds with one stone 😆

Nesting boxes should always be lower than roosting bars.

Agreed. We will be working that into our next build.

I put up lights during the winter months cuz I'm not going to just feed birds all winter and not get anything out of them cuz then there's no point of having them they're going to cost you money and they're not giving you any eggs

I had a good harvest. About 20 eggs a day from 30 birds. But you're right, it can get expensive.

Just fyi , Later they will quit laying altogether. If you give them a break they stay healthier and lay longer..

Bard rock chickens are crazy and often mean. I don't like them for that reason

Barred Rocks have actually been amount my most mild and quiet hens. However their roosters have been crazy!!!

I know this is 2 yrs old but I have to comment. Barred rocks are one of my favorite breeds. I have 1 chick currently who is not skittish at all, likes interacting with us and sitting on our lap, shoulder, perched on arm, wrist, whatever.. But it's the 3rd time I've had at least 1 barred rock. Years ago when I first got chickens, I had about 12 barred rocks. Every experience I have had with this breed they have been docile, confident, even tempered and friendly. I have no experience with a barred rock rooster though (only Buff Orpington, Rhode island reds and Easter Egger roos).

My barred rock jumps on my lap so that I can pet her every time I go into the run. They're all different, just like cats and dogs. Hope.your hen warms up to you soon agape
