How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer: Kitchen Cabinets, Sink, Stove (Part 9)

Күн бұрын

Today I'm working on the kitchen cabinets for the Travel Trailer project. The majority of the build is pretty simple, just using pocket holes and face framing. But there are also some more custom features such as storage for a propane stove and a lower flip out door for heavy pots and pans. Additionally, there is a built in access to a foot powered water pump. And finally, a budget option for the countertop backsplash.... a $17 scrap piece of stainless steel from my local Industrial Metal Supply's remnant room!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!
Joe

If I were just a better welder, finish carpenter and designer I could do that. Gotta say, this is a beautiful job. Little wonder that suppliers made "gifts" to you, as your videos are better advertisement than they could buy. You've given me the motivation, how bout giving me the skills? My skills in carpentry and welding are in the "half fast" category.

I didn't want to mess with water tanks below my van when I did the conversion so I built the kitchen counter to accommodate two 7 gallon Reliance Aqua-Tainer Water Containers. I have a foot pump connected to the fresh water container and the faucet and then I have the sink draining into another container, and both are strapped down. They've worked just fine for years.

The first and last time I built a vanity, I used those same sliders but there's too much resistance for a kid to open them. You've inspired me to try again!
@homesteadonomics
@homesteadonomics 5 жыл бұрын
awesome! they can be tricky for sure. I usually built the drawer 1" smaller than the drawer opening as the sliders are 1/2 on either side... atleast the ones I used are. But if the fit is ever to tight or loose you can always cut a slight big off the drawer with a table saw or if to much space then ad some washers behind the glides that mount to the drawer :)

@@homesteadonomics Hello, own a 13' Scamp and wasn't going to install a sink or water. I like the fact you have a bucket to throw the grey water out after use. Interested in learning what water pump with foot lever you purchased and did you finally receive the hose? If so, I'd be interested in learning more about this. P.S. will use your ideas to build the platform for the bed as well as the kitchen in the Scamp. Will look into if there is enough room for at least one bench. Thank-you for the how to video. Very nicely done.

Considering that most of my cordless tools are Milwaukee as I'm a contractor, that says a lot. I can't endorse Ryobi's other cordless tools which are likely more homeowner grade. But the nailer for interior finishing is superb for the low price.

Great video. Gives me some ideas about my current kitchen project. For anyone else thinking about doing some similar projects you can cut down on the weight by about half by utilizing 1X2s instead of 2x2s. In some cases it takes more engineering but more often than not the weight is more important.

You are the pocket hole king! Looks very clean. I've been saving scraps for a couple years now, a trailer build. I will use a foot pump as a backup probably the best alternative. I have 4 SS steel soda machine tanks on hand and plan on connecting them with lines along with an old car pump at 15-30 psi. The biggest fear would be a leak but I think transport and disconnecting would be so easy. The other thing I was thinking about was to make cabinets removable if I need to hall something desperately. I've used SketchUp for about 9 different styles so far, can't make up my mind! The ideal size for me will be about 6 x 11 or 7 x 12.. Shower, wood stove + air conditioner, nice custom compost toilet. Vegetable cooking inside greasy stuff outside. Crags list has 2,3,4 inch industrial used insulation on the cheep I plan on building it like a refrigerator on wheels as I live in Georgia now. Ideally, I'd like to be back home in the redwoods and ocean. Really nice build you have. New materials are great, but scratch and dents are free and otherwise atainable. The pocket jigs are great I have a single pocket unit, but still use dowels often as they are very strong perhaps stronger, but then you build strength where needed and pockets are very efficient. Good day to you.
