Tessie !!!! I GOT IT. MY DH has been saving money and just ordered it for me. Its coming on the 9th. I can't wait. I found the PDF of the cookbook for it. m.media-amazon.com/images/I/B1xRS6t8eFS.pdf . first thing I want to make is apple rings and raisins. The last dehydrator i had my mom bought for my Guinea pig around 20 yrs ago ( b. 1963) he liked all the veg/fruit in his food so mom said this would be cheaper lol

Nice dehydrator Tessie. I have a 9 tray Excalibur. It came with a solid door and then I found out from a KZbin that you could buy another door that is clear like yours. I love it. Like you say, you can see how you food is coming along in the drying process. I love dehydrating things. I have found though that it is better if you rotate your trays by just turning them around ever so often during the process. Just take each tray and put the front side to the back and the back to the front. That way your veggies that were at the back of the dehydrator all the time won’t be burnt and the things to the front not like the peppers were. It’s real easy to just pull the tray out and turn it around. I just check mine every once in awhile and if it’s getting drier on the back than the front , I just give a spin. Hope you continue to feel better with time , Sweetheart. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

You are what my mom used to refer to as a "self-starter," Tessie. You don't need anyone to set your priorities or plan your day. You get up in the morning with a solid idea of what you want to get done and -- by golly -- you've usually nailed it by the end of the day. I really admire your sense of organization. Caring for a parent with dementia, my day can go off the rails pretty easily. You never know what their mood will be for the day! So it's relaxing to sit down with your videos in the evening and see order and accomplishment in your home. You must have a real sense of satisfaction at the end of most (I realize your life isn't all roses) if not all of your days. Have a blessed evening.

Tessie you might be able to get some plastic canvas from the craft area and use for your trays. I cut the florets off the broccoli and then trim the woodynpart of the stem and peel it. The rest of the stem will get tender and makes great soup.

Hi, Tessie, I’ve the same type of dehydrator and am very content. We are 'food savers', we ordered a package of veggies every week from a young company, some things are not fulfilling the European rules, so they’d be thrown away. I use up everything. Every time I’ve too much of something, I make juice, dehydrate or freeze it. And if fruits are cheap, I make 'candy' out of them : Kiwi 🥝 : looks nice in slices and tastes like sour candy! And persimmons turn out wonderfully, too. With this amount of veggies YOU have, you could make a party service running... you’re a very busy bee 🐝. Love, Monika❣️

Tessie, thank you for sharing so much great info tonite. Your stew looks yummy....I have some dehydrated cabbage and tomato slices that I will put in my next beef stew! What was that cut of beef you used....smart to use an electric knife! Would love to see you do a video on how you make tomato sauces (for pasta, pizza, etc) from your dehydrated slices. Well deserved 'gift' for you to receive a new dehydrator to test and review...have fun with it! I am new to dehydrating and am loving the process.

Plastic canvas sheets that are used for needle point crafts are cheap, you can make your own dehydrator liners with them. Just trace and cut to the round trays (you can use your old ones as a template) and cut the sheet to size if needed for the new one that you just got. It is cheap and easy and you can make as many as you need, they sell them at Walmart and craft stores.

Tessie thank you so much for this video, I have a small dehydrator that works but eh not so great. I really wanted one with steel racks. After your review and with the generous discount code I decided this would work for me too. I can always use my other one but I like this one so much better, it's steel racks, quiet, you can see all the trays easily, you also get several accessories with it including silicone trays and mittens to keep your hands from getting burned. I am so grateful thanks! I learn so much from you - giving me the courage to become more self sufficient and frugal. You are the best Tessie!

Even though I'm now older than my 70 years, it was only last year that I really started hearing and learning about dehydrating food. I have an inexpensive bare bones model that has really changed my thinking. Now I'm drooling a little for this lovely model, but instead I'll just be SUPER HAPPY that they recognized your worth and let you have one, I hope to keep. It is so wonderful to be able to open the cupboard, take out a jar of dehydrated veggies--and see how they plump up again.

Oh my gosh I noticed while you were doing the beef stew that on ur table you have a nut bowl. We have one like yours, it was passed down from my childhood. We would always have it out at Christmas time and my parents would splurge on mixed nuts and we would all enjoy having it out and enjoying the nuts. Funny thing is as much as we all ate we never ran out of the nuts. (there was 10 of us in the household) The bowl always remained full up through the New Year! I just try dehydrating for the first time and they were peppers too. I got a Cosori 12 & I oven & it has a dehydrating feature. I didn't do too many peppers but they came out good and next time I will do more. Thanks Tessie for inspiring me to do!! Your stew looked yummy!! Take care and God Bless!!! ❤️✝️✝️✝️❤️

Just stumbled on to your channel a few minutes ago, I'm thinking I'm staying a while, lol. I love the idea of using your electric knife for all your cutting! Never thought about it, but NOW I;m getting ours out and sitting on the counter so I can use it every day.

Love this! I need to use my electric knife more, why only use it twice a year for ham or turkey? You are very inspiring.

I love my electric knife because I make a lot of Baklava, and croissants and it does such a lovely job cutting puff pastry without shredding it to pieces. Also love that my Excalibur Dehydrator has a glass door and was a wise investment back in 2006.

You just gave me one more reason to invest in one! That's so smart. I became quite skilled at using a bread knife to cut perfect, even slices. But that would be a game changer.

Tessie--thank-you for inspiring me to dry foods! I've been experimenting with it for over a month and enjoy it. I just use my oven because our house is too small for added gadgets, but it does the job. Though, me being me, so far I store my jars of dried food in the refrigerator just to be safe. ha! :) But again, I'm having fun with it and I have you to thank for that. Thanks, Tessie!

Tessie i have a air fryer which can dehydrate. Im planning to do tomatoes as i love them semi dried with garlic and oregano packed in oil. Figured homemade ones gonna be heaps cheaper than deli bought

I’ve been seriously considering getting a new dehydrator. Was eyeing an Excalibur but they’re too pricey for my modest budget. The discount ($80) on the unit you tested made it affordable, and with a Homestead Tessie positive review how could I go wrong! So Merry Christmas to me!

I love all of the uses for dehydrated tomatoes! 🍅 I've also only used Presto dehydrators; they've done me well. I'm investing in one of the 8 in 1? 10 in 1? Countertop ovens soon. They look similar to that dehydrator but are capable of more. Really excited to get one! I think it'll go nicely with my pressure cooker. We eat a lot of rice as of recently; I've always love rice though. 😊
