Tessi - when opening the door to the stove - open just a crack and wait 30 to 60 seconds then open and load , that way you avoid the big plume of smoke coming out most of the time - you will always have tiny bit but no longer that big bellow that you see in the video.

My husband and I picked up a bag of wood pellets today. We purchased one at the beginning of the cold season. We use it to start our fires in the wood stove. We have found we were going to need a second bag to have enough for the entire cold season. I'm glad we picked it up today because Menards is clearing out the winter items now to make room for spring already.

Hi Tessie, a wash tub makes a wonderful wood holder! We always banked the wood burning stove at night, then added wood in the morning to get the house warmed up. I remember my grandparents running the bed warmer between the covers with hot coals in it and the slop bucket under the foot of the bed, because the outhouse was a little distance to walk at night in the dark! Reuse, repurpose, use it up or do without.

Tessie, here’s a suggestion that you may or may not like ensuring to the cabin thing. Our house is like a cabin too on the inside. My husband built our house with his own two hands. So I’ve combined my love of more feminine flowery things with his love of outdoors and rustic, and it really has come together beautifully. But one thing I started doing a couple years ago is in our living room. I have three Christmas trees that I keep up year-round just with white lights. I have a really small one next to a cabin in my dad built on top of the boot box. One beside it on the floor that’s probably 3 feet tall and then a 2 foot tall on the pie safe on the other side of the living room. And it looks so natural and so pretty and it just keeps that kind of cozy Christmasy feeling you around.Just a thought. As always love the video and God bless.

❣For several years, I got a huge, heavy duty, cardboard shipping box from a friend. Her daughter was into Home Interiors decorations and her big fall orders came in these boxes. I used them to hold several days worth of wood. The sides were quite high and then, I could also stack it beyond that. After I could no longer get them the wood mess was much worse. Not beautiful, but bugs, ants and loose dirt from older wood stayed in the box. After heating season it could just be slid out the door and put on the burn pile.❣

I miss having a wood stove and fireplace very much. I loved every bit of the process of heating with wood. It was great exercise gathering the wood and chopping and stacking. Nothing like wood heat. I won’t buy another house that doesn’t have it, or easily put in. Like now, I’m worried about the ice storm here in the smokies of WNC, should I loose power. I grew up with it, so I guess I’m just use to it. I hope you don’t have too bad of weather. It’s suppose to be bad down this way and for most of January a cold month. Trash service is nice. It isn’t available here in the mountains, you have to take to the dump. It’s like $145/year added to your property tax bill. Looks. Ice. Im going to get rid of my microwave also. I never had one for years and not sure why I got this one.

Tessie that wash tub for firewood was brilliant! Since my birthday on the 29th I gave myself a gift ☺ and asked a couple friends to help me go through all the cupboards, closets, pantry and get better organized. And I found some clothing items that needed mending that are getting mended! To be honest, in the past I would get a wee bit depressed when once a year I would clean out the pantry/cupboards and find food items that were a) unhealthy b) out of date. Now I only have healthy items that get used! Has saved me a lot of money over the years. Also gifted myself HuggieGems 4 Pack magnetic storage rack, organizer from Amazon for the side of my refrigerator and was amazed at the amount of drawer space I now have.
