I'm Filipino and we don't learn about African, American or European history, we learn about our own history and other Asian histories to an extent - And we only cover Southeast Asian history, not East or Middle-eastern Asian history. You're likely not going to learn African history in an American history class.

I've lived in 3 African countries over the past 20 years and visited a couple more,, I can undoubtedly say the countries that are better off are those that cherish their culture, from music and dressing to food and rituals. I've also seen and learnt that by losing one's history one loses identity, and when identity is lost, so is ones future.

Thank you so much for giving your true feeling and opinion on our plight. Very brave and appreciated. Of course not everyone would agree but that's ok. The only thing I could add is that forgiveness would have been ok and possibly needed to lessen feelings of hatred over time. But what we really needed to have is people who were willing to fight together for their home and culture. Instead they sold out. It wasn't technology that first weakened the African nations, it was wealth and religion that divided the people. To divide and concour, that's all it took. Fighting smaller groups and pitting one against the other was much easier then. It's a shame the ancestors couldn't see the bigger picture.

I mean, if you look at Africa, uniting in the way Europe did, and yes I understand Europe is not one country, but uniting would be a lot more difficult. The climate made it hard to travel, and distance on top of that heavily factored in tribalism. You have to understand that in European history, many of the identities we see now like French, German, and British are identities made up of various people groups who were combined through conquering. The British Isles were conquered by Normans invading from Scandinavia, and they combined with the native people's of what is now Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Britain. The French and Germanic people both descend from the Franks who due to location were divided into two major groups, the Western part founded in Roman Gaul became what we now know as France (the name France itself is derived from Frank) and the eastern, more Germanic part due to themselves being culturally different from the western Franks became the "Holy Roman Empire" and though it wasn't called Germany officially at the time it was occasionally known as Germany. Africa just didn't have this type of thing going on. Honestly part of it also might be that they didn't have a big scary enemy like the Franks and other Germanic peoples did the in the form of the Romans in order to give incentive to work together.

Overall it was its defense technology that kept the kingdom safe. Even now our continent does not have the technologies it needs to defend itself. I would rename the 4th gate from human error to Naivety. The Yoruba of Western Nigeria have a saying "Odo ti o ba gbagbe orisun e, o ma gbe keyin ni" roughly translates to; a river that forgets it's source will eventually dry up at the end. I think these gates are morphing into other forms as time progresses. Religion for instance has become a tool for some Africans to subjugate their own people. That will be almost impossible. Corrupt leaders alone won't allow that. Once traditional leaders get their power back (that is, taking power away from them), that is game over. Africa will plunder into civil wars (that the world won't view it as world War but rather as African continental war). Let's say, no one obeys the leaders, terrorism will escalate as they will see it as a way of establishing their religious beliefs forceful. It will become a hell. And also, we (young pop.) in the modern society have been westernized almost completely (if not completely) so it will be difficult to put it back to its greatest glory. I love this educational series and I just want to add something I was reading about in regards to the Sahara desert. The desertification of the Sahara was caused by a change in the Earth's axis around 8000yrs ago. According to scolars, the earth changes in it's position to the sun by about 25 degrees over a period of 41000yrs. It is believed that the north of Africa was gradually dried out as the amount of sunlight the area received increased overtime.

Maybe that's a hint of what's currently killing Africa 🤔, maybe in Africa we should look at leadership differently from having one powerful president and a pyramid of gradually less powerful people. The slave traders came to get the Africans, yes, but who decided "let's not fight these people to the death to defend ourselves and just take their guns, Spices (whatever else they traded in)"? It was the leaders, whether they were Kings, chiefs etc. The leaders gave up their own. You can see that today with some of the incredibly stupid decisions you often see them making, e.g buying a govt minister a $70000 4x4 that will never see mud and neglecting the needs for a new lab facility in the public university, established road network for connectivity, favourable taxes for businesses etc, JUST to mention a few...

We underestimate how devastating, and severe the plagues of Egypt were, and also because the north was so rich in trees and vegetation it was stripped to make the great monuments which still stand today. Since my elder led me to gaining knowledge of self my knowledge, and furthermore my perspective had changed, took new forms and shifted many times over. However what’s never changed is the diagnosis and recognition of our continued downfall & demise do to our over aggressive humanity. The constant forgiving and forgetting of what transpired is the EXACT opposite of Sankofa, and imo the epitome of stupidity. I mean idk if a more gullible creature exists! Then we’re so willing to slaughter ourselves and everything that looks like us while we cherish and preserve everything that’s the opposite. It’s like a man who tend to the needs of another family while his starves.

For the same reason Briton fell to the Romans ..... They were a bunch of disorganised tribes constantly at war with each other. And then a more organisaed and more technologically advanced group of people arrive and essentially carve it up. Same story that occured to many regions on earth during human history.

I really appreciate the work you have presented in this video sir. I love the explanation of the five gates which can be opened and also closed. I also should mention that the fifth gate about the religion is also very true but please do not make the same mistake I made while back. There is a big difference between Christianity and Catholicism. Catholics which I used to be, do exactly contrary to what the Bible teaches: idolatry, only some priests used the Bible and responsible for a lot of witchcraft and so on. Christianity teachers by loving one another we would be recognized as disciples of Jesus, John 13:35.That sounds more like the behavior of the Africans King. He did not realized until it was too late wherever the white men steps in there is racism, murder, thievery, greed and that contamination spread wherever they go.

The difference isn't much. The very same bible says "love your enemies." That one verse alone had a terrible impact on our consicousness.

You just reminded me how immersed/fascinated I was with the Fall of Rome in the context of anthropology a few years ago. I stumbled into a series of lectures of Robert Sapolsky's on a different channel (hit and miss, but worth the time) where he considers things like religion and philosophy (with a certain emphasis on distinctions between monotheistic and polytheistic schools of thought) as well as external factors, like invading barbarians. Then there's plain old inextricable human development in terms of individual growth in the course of evolution. I seriously wonder if blood & bones evolution is really accounted for. I kind of think it happens about every hundred years or so, in small changes, but then enhanced by new technology and cultural enhancement of one form or another. Most recently...there'd be the construction of seafaring ships leading to the proliferation of resources for those who built the ships, with that followed by the colonization of America leading to the steam-engine and railroad, with continental highway systems and the airplane and satellite technology and space travel soon to follow in the relative course of things. At any rate, what I'm trying to get at it is that there's something admirably insightful about us as a species in spite of all the ignoble and unfortunate things along the way and that a reconsideration of both among intelligent people in some serious and committed direction is quite realistic and arguably indispensable for a productive and rewarding future. In somebody else's words: "Your best men are machinegunning the bridges and your worst men are selling them bullets." I'll be around.

As for closing the gates: Buddhists identify defilement through five major criteria--form, feeling, perception, mental-formation and consciousness. That is, we sometimes neglect the impermanence and otherness of these things in relation to our growing/understood selves. This opens a channel into confusion, although I'd say it's wise to not underestimate free will. Then, based on healthy perceptions of impermanence (food runs out, bodies get tired, people eventually die and ways of life change and transform) it becomes possible and even tempting, in my opinion, to push against whatever personal limitations or daunting conditions towards a satisfied and sustainable future.
