It's a struggle to get and find these stories because African history has been hidden or destroyed to gather the pieces that why it's so important to us because it's apart of our history as well. I was thinking the same exact. Thing. This list is incredible. Was just learning about Wu Zetian of China. She was the only women to ever become ruler of China. But it was happening on the continent frequently even around d the same period it seems.
@Wastulassis3 жыл бұрын
Well, the 10 names of the list cover the span of 3500 years, and many of them weren't in full charge or full control of the power. I mean, with the exception of the Muslim world, there have been many queens elsewhere, I would even say more queens. Just think about the russian Czarinas, or the English monarchs, or the Palmyra's queen Zenobia, the Byzantine empress Irene, or Tarabai of the Marathas empire

And there still are. Every King rules with a Queen or Queen mother. This Queen is chosen within the immediate family of King or from an extension of Royals in the same land. It's to check monopoly of power and also give voice to the women of the land.. The King having more dominance than the Queen can be punished or dethroned if his actions betrays the respect, counsel or voice of the Queen.

One more queen from Kikuyu land in central Kenya, chief wangu wa makeri, she affirmed the matrilineality of this community, we never had kingdoms because we don't have a native word for it, but we had a nation (bururi), she used to seat on men's back and had a fierce warriors who gave explorers troubles at the end of the 19th C. The imperial British company of East Africa had to exterminate her to access the inland trade route towards Kisumu and eventually Uganda, before the design of the Kenya- Uganda railway. Finally from mombasa among the Mijikenda community, mekatilili wa menza, she was a freedom fighter, and was arrested and taken almost 700 kilometers to a far land for imprisonment, among the abagusii in the west of Kenya near lake 'victoria' but she escapes and found her way back alone in the vast savannah and deep forest among her people. She was continued the colonial resistance successfully, that the Mijikenda land was never grabbed but alot of traditional artifacts were taken by missionaries who claimed are witchcraft vessels and lay in the British galleries. ✌️

I play an online game called War Eternal which is based on real and fictional military, economic, and scientific leaders on all continents. I remember when the developers added Queen Amanarenas to the game and I was bewildered. Because i consider myself a history buff and I knew nothing about this woman. So, I did some research and much to my surprise she was not only a real person but a helluva warrior queen! I also was perplexed 🤔 because although I enjoyed the Black Panther movie, but it is based on a fictional place ruled by a fictional monarch. Why not tell this real story and what this queen did for her people, to stand and win against the Iron fist of Rome is a truth that needs to not only be heard but celebrated.
