Beautifuly done! As an Iranian, I am fascinated by the African culture in Iran, especially the southern coast. I grew up hearing that Africans in Iran are descendants of slaves; however, scholars like Runoko Rashidi have documented how the Cushite people founded the ancient Persian civilization. The Elamites of Southern Iran were Cushites who conquered and launched civilizations from East Africa through East Asia! How do we know the Afro Iranians are not descendants of these ancient original African Persians?

@ptolemeeselenion1542 2 жыл бұрын
Lol, the Ethiopians did NOT founded ancient Iran at all. Ancient Iran was the coalescence of two Iranic speaking polities and 3thnic groups - namely the Medeans (who were a Iranian speaking people possibly related or descending from the early Iron Age Minnaeans of the Upper Euphrates and the Armenian Highlands, whom in their turn might be possibly an 3thno-p0litical successor to the Hittites, Mittanians - an Aramean society ruled by some elite of mostly Indo-Iranian heritage - and neighboring Urarteans) and Farsis/Persians - merging into one kingdom under the rule of the Achemenids, a dynasty of Kassite, Amorite/Bedouine, H3braic and Assyro-Babylonian heritage. The Kassites in their turn were Indo-Iranians! The Achemenids in their turn assimilated Elamite and Chaldean royalties within their lineage. And the Elamites were NOT Ethiopians, they were 3thnolinguistically and genetically closer to the Dravidians of India like every single population who descends from the Neolithic Southern Zagros Farmers. What the earth are you talking about?? Start reading other books than those of Rashidi. He's not always telling truths.

Stop your fantasy. The Elamites were Middle-Eastern and had no connection to my fucking ethnicity, don't speak about things you do not understand. Furthermore, the Afro-Iranians were descended from the massive slave migrations caused by the Muslims. That's why Muslim Middle-Easterners have 5-15% Sub-Saharan African ancestry while Christian and Jewish Middle-Easterners don't have any of that.

I think people tend to forget we are literally everywhere. That's what makes me upset the most is that we get overlooked unless it has to do with slavery, then magically they remember we exist then. My Mom was a Bahai so this is quite interesting. She came across this faith at Arthur Micheaux's Harlem bookstore when Harlem was Harlem. One of the founders of this faith has a map of Africa on his grave. There was an Erhiopian slave woman in their family called the Black Pearl. As there are many New Yorks within New York There are also many Harlems and within Harlem where the aspects of the Diaspora interacted. There is mystical Harlem and also the Harlem is a state of mind. Mzungus and their allies think they have disassembled all of this but they will be disheartened to learn this is not the case. Your channel is one of a handful that is truly amazing. Ase Ase.

I think the Atlantic slave trade and the Arab/Ottoman slave trade have colored how we look at history. I find it hard to believe that people living in two neighboring regions would not mix especially along their borders (for business opportunities) or emigrate during famines or wars (as refugees). My point is: not all Africans or blacks found outside Africa were taken to those places as slaves. Australian blacks were not taken there as slaves. If we loose sight of this, we will be ignoring or missing a big chunk of the history of the world. This is in no way a criticism of the good work of this channel--you did point out the presence of Africans as professionals in early Assyria and Persia, but my general observation from other channels.. Thanks for the good work.

Wife was born in Cabo Verde, one parent (FIL) is from Iran and is Zangibari. The ancestral group of the Involuntary African Diaspora as is my understanding from him: The Bambasi, Habshi and Zangibari, (adopting the word(s) used to describe Iranians of African descent). And like their other Involuntary African Diaspora cousins throughout the World, Afro-Iranians - whose population is estimated to be about 8 Million strong, have poured much of their culture into the Persian society at large, forever altering it for the better. Centuries ago, and even prior to the TransAtlantic Slave Trade, Gulf-Arab Slavers - dominated by the Sultanate of Oman, which controlled vast regions bordering the Indian Ocean - brought slaves to Iran from northern and northeastern parts of the African continent, including Tanzania (Zanzibar), Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. In ancient Islamic literature, Ethiopians were referred to as al-Habasha. As a result, many slaves took the last name “Habashi” when they came to Iran, to indicate their Ethiopian origins. Slaves from Zanzibar, meanwhile, might take the last name Zanzibari, and Bambasi of what is now Eastern Sudan. Largely concentrated on the southern coast of Iran, slaves worked predominantly in fishing and agriculture, or as domestic servants, wet nurses, or even soldiers in the military.

I am Oromo, and this is news to me! I'd like to mention that "Zar" is a derogatory Amharic term used to refer to the ceremonies of an "Ayyaantuu", who is a time-keeper of the Oromo calendar and can act as a spiritual leader. I've never heard of "Liwa" or "Gowat" (not very Oromo-sounding words), so I assume they were brought by the Gurage. Thanks for shedding light on this history!

The afro woman is the only woman with the capability of producing all other races. So when you're studying the history of any landmass know that the Aboriginal people were very well melanated and that history is written by the Conqueror of the land

Firstly, salute and great video. I am a Persian with a Masters Degree in Ancient Persian history. My own history alongside African American has always interested me beyond measure. Some extra points to note…. I realise this will hurt some sensitive wannabe Western Persians but I don’t really care. You are entirely correct in saying Afro Iranians did NOT just come into Iran via the horrors of slavery. The ancient Elamites or Persians would most probably be defined as a ‘black’ people today. Perhaps not Nubian, yet most definitely not white. I see a lot stating that they were ‘Cushite’ people, the evidence is not satisfactory to conclude imo but it is more probably than them being ‘caucasian’. Even images of their idols are interesting, women with wide hips etc and men with braids (not plaits but braids). These date back 5000 or so years. Most enslaved Africans (I dislike the word slave as they were people with lives before the African holocaust came along) were brought into Iran by the Portuguese & Arabs upon suggestion by the British & Portuguese. However it is worth noting, that the ‘Arab’ armies would have also had ‘black’ commanders etc. The Western notion of ‘black’ and ‘white’ is not a good standard to hold. Infact, the original Arabs and Semites overall (yes including Jews) were black folks. But alas, I digress. Many of the enslaved Africans were brought in for entertainment and household purposes and whilst nobody is trying to defend any form of enslavement it was not the same as what happened in America. I say this after asking many Persians (black and other) who were alive before it’s abolition or who had family members alive during that period. This notion that no blackness was anywhere in Iran prior to the evil of slavery is pure idiocy and tomfoolery. I am happy you dispelled this myth. Whilst many Persians will get annoyed, check out the archeological evidence left by the Achaemenid Persians (also the original Aryans one may add). They have dark skin (considered black by todays measure) and long Jheri curl type hair. Again they may have not been Nubian, but their skin tone did not resemble the majority of todays populace. As for anti-blackness, the first notions of this we see creep into Persian literature and culture is after the demise of Zoroastrianism (I am a Muslim revert so no bias). The first charter of human rights was implemented by Cyrus the Great that safeguarded all races and religions of people. Infact Cyrus implemented a policy that allowed anybody to emigrate and work in Iran thus also guaranteeing them citizenship. Hence we see the African military commanders that you touched upon during the Achaemenid period (Cyrus was the first Achaemenid king). Regarding racism, modern Iran is solely dependant upon where one is at. For example, in my hometown of Abadan you see Persians, Arabs, Blacks (both Iranian and otherwise), Chinese and Indians etc etc all mixing and getting along. I have met interracial married couples for example all over the Southern coast. However, when I went to Tehran I had to call a few people out for just staring at some Nigerians. Their comeback was that they had never seen any before, and to be fair after explaining to them what it was they were doing most (not all, but most) agreed and stopped. Although it must be said that Tehran folk did this to the white Americans and Chinese folks too. I find a lot more anti-blackness in Persians outside of Iran and that is because they are too quick to take on the traits of their hosts. If you have a contact of any kind I can send you the pictures of archeological evidence of ancient Persians. They look very much like todays populace, just darker skin and the majority hold that Jheri curl type hair I spoke of. We have a huge black southern Iranian population. In fact, them two twins Malikah & Khadijah Haqq are Afro-Iranians. We have also shared some extensive relationships with African nations historically, most recently the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran & Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia were extremely close.\ Apologies for the typos, I am typing this quickly before the baby wakes up lol.

You arent persian, a real iranian knows his history we have looked exactly the same since the iron age and are not of african orgins. Afro iranians were descendants of slaves imported during various time periods in iranian history the elamites were brown and had no relationship to africa neither did ancient iran as the Ethiopians saw us as foreigners and we did the same to them. Every single ancient account of us from greeks, romans, chinese, arab call us white or olive skin. The axumites certainly didnt think we looked alike when we went to war. Do not try to claim to be a iranian and try to steal our history as you clearly have no actual degree in iranian history and are just a american with limited knowledge on my country. And no i am not some white wannabe just because i defend my history from foreigners trying to reshape to fit their world view.

Don't look any further. The Afro tribes you see in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Mombasa and most Black people you see in East Africa originated from ancient Iran. But were all kicked out by Tartars, Baluchi and Mongols. The last caliphate to kick out East African tribes were the Ottomans caliphates.

No group is “the greatest” humans are humans. The usual reason for groups from one area being in the lower classes of other areas is because humans are wary of “the other”, and also societies have a tendency for inheriting wealth down a family line so that new comers have a serious handicap when it comes to systems where capital is the main power source.

Also, when Zerubbabel was allowed to return to Jerusalem by King Cyrus to rebuild the wall many Israelite's, including Daniel, remained in Babylon.

I love History and found it of great interest so spent some time doing research, I knew that Safavid Iran dealt in slavery unfortunately who didn't, what I didn't know was African slaves were imported across the Indian Ocean as well as Ethiopians and Somalia, but what I didn't know that thousands of white slaves were kept mainly from Northern Europe The Safavid Harem boasted some 5,000 woman both black and white plus black and white Eunuchs, but it wasnt a safe place to be Shah Abbas II burnt three of his wives alive for refusing sexual advances, however the British and Russians forced after several attempts through diplomacy and trade Mohammed Shah Qajar and later Reza Shah Pahlavi into ending slavery it took awhile but some of the Chieftains still carried out slave raids well into the 20th century.. Have to say all of this was new to me. Please keep it up Thank you.

@marialewis2726
@marialewis2726 2 жыл бұрын
@Santiago Jesus the Bible says is our high priest, so what that’s means is we don’t need an earthly priest to confess our sins to, there is scripture supporting everything I’m saying, the Bible tells believers to come boldly to the throne of Grace to repent of our sins, we do not honor saints, or pray to any of them we thank God for Mary’s life but she was the earthly vessel God used to give us a Savior Jesus Christ, Catholics don’t verbally require you to receive the Lord Jesus Christ, simply by saying Lord I believe you are my resurrected savior please forgive me for my sins and come into my heart. There is scripture that says if we confess with our mouths and believe in heart that we will be saved. Catholics believe that there is a purgatory when you die you go to purgatory where if you’ve earned it by giving money maybe God will have mercy on you and not send you to hell. But the Bible mentions nothing about purgatory the closest thing would be Abraham’s bosom but once Jesus resurrected there is no more Abraham’s bosom. So if you haven’t gotten saved and repented of your sins you will go to hell, but if you’ve confessed Jesus as Lord and repented of your sins you will go straight to heaven. They also removed books from the Bible apocrypha you can find the apocrypha on Amazon some people around the world have those text included in their bibles. Ethiopia has the underground churches with the depictions of the apostles and others on the walls in the church. True Christianity is about God Grace not works where you earn or pay for your salvation what Jesus did on the cross was enough so we no longer earn, our way in.

You can hear bandari music playing on every iranian weddings peak time. It's literally the persian hype music which makes everybody dance. Bandari musicians (most from the hormozgan region) use same classical african instruments like djembeh and other percussion often with different names. I hear a lot of similarities with classical senegalese and ghanaian instrumentation as well. Btw. The french/german cultural tv network Arte once aired a documentary about a mysterious ancient civilisation in southern Iran pre dating the official persian history and dates. Artifacts have been found but the political and international situation regarding Iran made it difficult to dig deeper so far. An impressively well educated iranian man once told me that these ancient people came from what today is called Sudan. Ancient Nubia and Kush.

We’re both Bahá’ís, a religion originated in Iran which has a significant history regarding slavery, especially in Iran. It’s the first world religion that unequivocally forbids all forms of slavery, and the founder, Bahá’u’lláh, famously liberated all the former enslaved people inherited from his father. Hey, again. Your channel has me enthusiastically puzzling over something I heard in an anthropology course, once upon a time. There's this concept that the smaller a group, the more familiar its members are to one another, and therefore how much intimacy is ascribed to said group/s. It, predictably, suggests a preference for the collective nature of that group. This would ultimately play out to some neurological effect. Suppose you are part of a group that is perceived, legitimately or not, as being oppressed -- this could include anyone from Black People in America, women compared to men almost anywhere, introverts intellectuals and progressives all throughout history...even incels. You therefore might assign non-traditional rules of civility to your group, not unlike a bootlegger during Prohibition who'd consider breaking the "law" due to a hypocritical or unreasonable treatment of certain behavior. But then what if the non-traditional rules begin supplant the common sense and courtesy of behavior under agreeable times? I don't want to make this into, if you don't fight monsters then you become them: that seems a little too fantastical. And I think there's a certain lesson to be had in noting a minority's persuasion over itself. For instance, it's been demonstrated neurologically that the areas of our brains that deal with abstract comprehension (all the way down to basic reading, writing and math) register some intriguing coincidences. One is that people value the accomplishments of those that they personally admire as accomplishments of their own. The other is that money and dear family members share the same effect. But what if being confined to any one group is ultimately disabling? I don't mean selling one another out in the name of some personal betterment; I mean agreeing with things you'd finally morally reprehensible due to some perception of background. Most of the hard work has been done here, to my knowledge. The last challenge is filtering out whatever inconsistencies and interlopers have been collected along the way. (You know where to find me.)

The entire land consisted of 'so called' black people...so Africa's as we know it boarders stretch all the way to at least India (or what was called Persia). Through the invasions and conquests what you see now are remnants of the old kingdom. The Bablonians, Persian, Meeds, Greeks (Alexander the Freak), Roman's have all played a role in the changing of the lands. Spoiler alert, look at the aborigines of Australia...how did they get there? And the Africans of the Indian Ocean islands....how did they get there?
